I do like the long haul pt tender it makes the engine look much bigger

Great train run and review again, Chris. The Hudson will always be my favourite steamer. Even though there were many larger passenger steam engines over the years, the hudsons always come to mind when I hear someone say 'steam engine'. Just a habit, I guess, from reading so many model train catalogues over the years. Still number 1!

Because of all of you guys the train business is probably better then ever. Yours has to be a Pennsylvania steam locomotive of course. Looking forward to your custom run soon. I've never actually seen the Southwestern Limited set, it's very diverse looking! Love seeing the Hudson too, and you are right, The SW was one of the last trains that Hudsons frequented. It looks fantastic on your layout. Happily, I'm pro PT tender too 🔥 Great video man!

Beautiful engine, no doubt about it! I don't have any issues with the PT tender myself but honestly I prefer the more traditonal type although the PT is certainly authentic.
There's really no problem running a Hudson with those passenger cars. Although steam was pretty much gone on the NYC east of the Hudson River by 1952 it hung on a bit longer in other parts of the NYC system in other areas of the country until the mid-1950s. A passenger consist of that type wouldn't be incorrect for a J3a Hudson at all and of course "power for the run" is "power for the run," typcally whatever's available.
    Fun video Chris! Thanks!

@@ChrissTrainsandThings when I first watched the making of the Lionel Hudson part 2, They showed a prototype for the 1997 Hudson model. At first it looked kinda ugly looking to be but I realized that it looked 100 times better the the Vanderbilt oil tender that came with the engine.

I remember before WWII lots of people had outside third rail like the subway in New York. This way you could use 3 rail Rolling Stock without having to insulate the wheels. Before as well as after World War there were little companies that you would send your 3-rail Lionel scale Hudson to and they would convert it to two rail DC with scale Wheels for you. Lionel thought about going to rail after the World War II Hiatus i n train production but that would make all of his pre-war trains incompatible with the post-war train. Therefore he decided to continue with the three rail system that was developed originally by marklin in the 19th century and copied basically by everyone else as well as being used for the larger gauges such as number 1 and number 2. Train in those days were always full of people this should be reflected in the number of passengers in the passenger cars. A passenger car could seat upwards of 90 people. If they came filled with people it would save owners a lot of trouble and expense to do it themselves.
