Beautiful units, the Santa Fe war bonnet F units are my all time favorite diesel locomotives, I wasn't aware that there were other colors besides the red. This yellow one looks really cool, and complements good with red bonnet version the blue one is also stunning. Great video Eric.
I'm convinced that Santa Fe had a policy of never using the same paint scheme twice. They went through almost a dozen different schemes on the F units alone, most of them variations of the warbonnet.
I have a marx bought 9t in 58 ,,,$19 wholes set up was Santa Fe super chief vista dome car and 2 engines I rode sf to Chicago on the super chief 3 days and 2 night at 10 years old was a big treat
ATSF had a lot of extra F3/7 AB set in the Warbonnet after the passenger service declined. They were regeared for freight hauling along with the various Blue and Yellow bonnet paint. Awesome layout.
Has a box set, with 2 red and silver engines, 1 powered, 1 dummy. This was in the mid 70's. Unfortunately my dad retired from the corp, and tossed it out with the trash, before moving to az.
I've seen Kato release the classic Warbonnet as well as the Blue and Yellow Bonnets, quite wild that Santa Fe made those variants of the Warbonnet back in the '70's.

Was watching Superman 1978 and the War Bonnet is similar to the train young Clark outruns, in the movie it’s solid red with Kanas across the nose, thanks again really enjoy your channel!
I hate to be the one to say this and I’m being particular about it but the Aberdeen Carolina and Western reporting mark is ACWR, I know the purists will rip into that. But as always you make me jealous you make me jealous with the variety that is available in O scale. Keep up the fantastic work man, you’re one of if not the best out there!

Looks to me that Santa Fe initially painted all the trucks silver and later worn off as well as kept very dirty. If you look closely in all the photos on google, you will see silver or what's left of the silver paint. That's just my take..But what awesome looking F units.

The paint schemes do make them stand out nicely and add interest to a layout. For now, Im steam only, but someday adding a Diesel could happen. The War bonnet red is a staple in the train community and could be a good first add for anyone looking to get into the hobby that is interested in Diesels.

Blue was the freight color 2. Only the red area was painted blue not the whole engine to save $$$
That is about $2500 for the two double engine sets. Even at some discount it’s unreasonable for a toy. Wow! It sure has a lot of electronic features. I often wondered why the “talking” as that is between engineer and tower. Nobody else hears that. It’s not like a horn or bell. Just as a point of interest the post war F3’s run very well on 027 curves for smaller layouts. Red, blue or yellow definitely a classic scheme that everybody recognizes.
Hey Eric. Great review. I bought three of the ABBA from this catalog. They are gorgeous. But I had a problem with paint blemishes on the roofs on two of the sets on all the ABBA units. I was wondering if you or others had this problem. Lionel offered no solution since they are BTO.
I have a Lionel Legacy Pennsylvania F7 that keeps going on and off causing the sound effects to turn off and start up again. Do u know how to fix this problem? All my other trains that are NOT legacy work fine. Could this be a track issue?
