    Oh. My. God. I just had a brand new LG front load washer/dryer delivered today and assumed that the drain hose would connect to an outlet on the washer like every other single washer I have ever seen. When the integrated hose didn't reach my drain pipe, I came here to see how to connect the longer hose I already have, and learned that I have to take the entire washer apart if I want to use a different drain hose! This is RIDICULOUS!

    Thank you so much for this! Seriously, I don't know why the drain hose is so much more difficult to replace than the supply hose which is like 30 seconds.

    • @Faladrin
      @Faladrin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The water coming in to the unit should be clean, so you can have the supply lines attach to the frame. Also the supply lines are under pressure so there is no pump to get the water into the unit. The drain line has dirty water so if you did the same thing at some point you'd have to replace the line but if you only replace the line on the outside you'd still have a dirty section of host inside anyway. The pump needs to be low to take advantage of gravity. If they placed the pump to the back then you'd need to get behind the unit every time you clean the lint trap which you are bound to do many many more times than replacing/cleaning that hose.
      I suppose it's still possible to make getting into and out of the unit as a whole easier, but there are several reasons why the drain line is bound to be harder to deal with than the supply lines.

    I just went through this process, what a PITA, just to change a hose. But I like how they skip forward the whole spring install. It certainly isn't as easy as he made it look. My question was how many times did they have to do it before the ring/spring was firmly in place around the rubber boot? I've been trying to get mine on for about an hour now, it keeps slipping off and i have to place the rubber boot/gasket back on the rim. Everything else went easily though. After another half hour, I need to walk away. I'll come back to it tomorrow.

    • @reactionsok
      @reactionsok 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you must not have it around the gasket properly.

    • @ADubTheGrizzy
      @ADubTheGrizzy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you really want, there's a $30 tool made for this call the tension ring expander. But this can be done with two hooks, some strength, and close your eyes. I've seen one technician almost take his eye out.

    • @richardw6733
      @richardw6733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had to open mine 3 times to fix a few things. Putting the spring back on was the worst part. If you watch enough videos they give tips: Make sure the gasket is secured into the V-shaped groove before trying to put the metal ring on. Start with the spring in place at the bottom and work the ring into its channel in the gasket from clockwise 6 o' clock to 12 and back to 6. It would be easier with an extra person helping, but it was always late at night for me and I didn't want to wait. You can get most of the metal ring into the gasket properly and then for the final part, use locking pliers or needle-nose pliers to pull the spring looser. The key is to pull to the side NOT away from the washer, so you're pulling the ring with resistance from the groove in the gasket and not pulling the ring away from the washer and gasket--easier said than done. With patience it does work with one set of pliers, two, or even mostly by hand. You can use a small screwdriver or similar to ease the remaining parts of the ring into the groove. The last time I was able to just pull it almost completely in place by hand and just use the pliers to get the last part of the spring into the groove. At the end, pull on the gasket all around and if correctly in place, it won't budge.

    Hello Simon (hope that's spelled correctly). I have an LG Stromm steam washer model number WM2487H*M from around 2007-2008. I am getting the OE code that says the drain hose is kinked or blocked. I have followed your instructions as far as removing the harnesses and screws that should allow me to remove the control panel and place it on top of the washer but I have two issues. The control panel doesn't seem to want to come loose after removing four screws (this washer has a brace running from front to back thus the extra screw. The other issue is that when I look down into the body at the back of the washer there seems to be two drain hoses. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get the control panel loose and does Appliance Parts Pro carry the correct drain hose assembly for this washer. Thanks so much. Phil

      In this case, you might be able to go up through the bottom to get to where it connects in the interior front, but you wouldn't have much room to work and it might be more difficult.

      Yes, tipping the washer on its side with a cushion support, and working up via the bottom hole worked for me. Thanks Chris for that tip! It's a bit tricky putting the drain hose through the back panel, and sliding the drain's mount connection into the back slots, but take your time and it will work. Also, make note of the orientation of the green drain end before you take it off, and install the new part the same direction, in order for the drain line to follow along the side of the washer, not bump into one of the shocks.

    • @richardw6733
      @richardw6733 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That hose is reachable from the back but not easily and since all the water flows out the washer through that connection, you want to make sure the hose is securely attached. Opening the front and reassembling is not that bad except for putting the gasket spring back on. For an older washer, there's likely many other things that should be checked and maintenanced anyway. If the washer is not on a pedestal, you could also tip it and access via the bottom.
