  • I bought a cheap worn out beat up SpaceKap commercial duty truck box. My wife and I cleaned, painted and added a cozy sleeper/camper/getaway pod for my longer over night trips away from home. Maybe even a great fishing rig! Check it out and let me know what you think, or even how I can improve it!

      It’s easy to go overboard on these builds, I purposely restrained myself this time. Thanks again for the support Mike! All the best, Jeff and Leslie

      Thanks! It was certainly a worthy project, I don’t use it nearly as much as I want to though. Thanks for watching!

    Great job. I’m building a similar build. But my spacekap was a old medic service body

      You’ll have lots more room, a great platform to build on. It’s about another 18” taller than mine, I looked at one like yours but it would have been far to tall for my truck. Good luck on the build!

    Great low budget build! I've been looking for a used SpaceKap Diablo for a while but if they are available they are too expensive vs new.

      That was the ideal camper when the world was shut down- I’ve since sold it- as far as I know the fellow is still using it. I’m thinking of building another one, but with the full height SpaceKap this time.

    Thanks for sharing! What did you use for the chassis ground of your electrical system? I’m converting a SpaceKap Diablo to go in the back of the pickup and it’s not clear whether there’s anything on the shell itself I can use for a ground or if I need to wire outside to the truck

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I gave everything its own ground , doubled the wires but seemed to be reliable.

    Hey Jeff, I've been recently discovered this topper/camper and have the idea to convert it to a camper like yours. One thing I can't find anywhere is what's the interior width? I plan to make a bunker bed like yours but how long is that? I'm 6' so will I fit there? Thanks in advance. And looking forward for the update on the SpaceKap

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  ปีที่แล้ว

      The widest point is 72”- where the bunk is in mine- is at the very front and it’s barely wide enough for me to sleep stretched out, I’m 5’8”- you might want to have a bunk running lengthwise. Thanks for watching. Jeff

    Afternoon! I’ve been toying with the idea of doing just exactly what you have done here. Amazing work on that build btw. I do have a slightly different concept though and I’d be curious your thoughts. I want to set mine up on a flatbed trailer with the sides built up for attachment points and exterior storage. Based on the dimensions of that specific Spacekap, do you think this could be done on a 5x8 flatbed? Or would it need a 6’ wide? Depending on the height of the sides, it might slide perfectly into a standard 5x8 utility trailer? Thoughts? Subscribed.

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The fellow who bought mine, came with a 5x10 utility trailer and towed it home. The only issue with the trailer was getting it on and off. The jacks won’t clear the trailer fenders. Good luck! I’m sure it’ll be fine .

    • @granthendry1001
      @granthendry1001 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perfect! Thanks. I’m thinking of putting it on skids that can be winched straight off onto a platform and straight back onto the trailer. My concern was if it would ‘slide’ along the trailer bed without having to be lifted to clear the fenders. Appreciate your time thanks!

    • @thelogfather5002
      @thelogfather5002  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bet it’ll slide just fine up a pair of ramps or planks. Make sure you have a sheet of plywood or a rubber mat under the SpaceKap or the fibreglass will turn to powder.

    • @granthendry1001
      @granthendry1001 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve been thinking of a package of the boat deck slides attached to skids on the bottom of the pod. They are a hard plastic that you put on the bunks of smaller boat trailers to get them to slide more easily. Lots of things to think about. Just curious…would you share approx what you sold your pod for?
