I visited the USS Kidd in2018 or so. Not much smaller than the 692/710 class tin cans.. I spent 2 years on the USS Newman K. Perry DD883,, TDY to the 875 and 705. 20 years USN, SMC, Ret.

I was on the USS PROVIDENCE (CLG-6) in 1968. I seem to remember the KIDD ran aground that year. Am I correct? The skipper was a CDR J.D. Skull. (?)

@@fbales: Not any of the KIDDs (DD-661, DDG-993, or DDG-100). DD-661 was decommissioned in '64. DDG-993 wasn't in commission until 1981. Never had a Skull as C.O. on any of taround. DD-661 never ran aground. Perhaps another Fletcher?

@ I’ve been thinking about it, it was the USS KING (DDG?-10), not the KIDD. J.D. Skull was skipper from 8/68 to 5/70.
