  • #Bollywood and the trend with remakes is not going to end anytime soon! I felt it was important to talk about some regional films that are available on OTT platforms and should get their deserved attention before the hindi remakes get all the credit!

I said this before and I say it again, "Remakes" HAVE to go now - both for films and songs. If a film is made in one particular language, either release it with SUBTITLES in other states, or DUB it in other languages, and dubbing needs to be of good quality with translations made in accordance to the culture of the original film (for ex - The Hindi dub of a Tamil film may use words like Amma, Appa and Anna for Maa, Pitaaji and Bhaiiya - might seem a bit off at first but you'll slowly immerse into the Tamil culture of the film that way and even learn a few words). If big companies like disney can exploit dubbing and subbing to extend their film empire worldwide, so can we.

Just because Master didn't do well in the Hindi dubbed version *DOES NOT* imply that no other Southern film will. I mean, for a long time, even Hollywood films struggled in India, even though a lot of them are being dubbed in Hindi since 1947 and in Tamil since 1950!
I can name you multiple examples of Southern films which have done well with the Hindi dubbed versions, starting with Tamil film Meera which was dubbed in Hindi in 1947 (and the voice actors weren't even native speakers, they had a strong Tamil accent) and yet it became successful all over India. And in the coming decades many other dubbed Southern Indian films did well in their Hindi dubbed versions - Roja, Bombay, Bahubali, Enthiran, 2.0, Sivaji The Boss....and the list goes on.
Of course, EVERY Southern film cannot be a pan India hit JUST like every Hindi film cannot be a pan India hit either..it doesn't mean we simply stop trying.

Being a Pakistani, I have always been looking for regional Indian films especially Malayalam films. Big fan. So unfortunate that bollywood lacks original scripts and rely on remakes. Thanks for sharing this useful video. I have noted down all the names and going to watch them. Indian audiences should say no to remakes and credit should be given to the originals. Subtitles are no problem. Being a fan of international films, I mostly watch films with subtitles. It's the story that draws you in and language becomes secondary.

Over the years he has been given credit for being a good director who has comic sense where the truth is his entire career is built on on remakes and neither did he or anyone else gave credit to the original movies. As a maharashtrian I can honestly confirm that Mulashi Pattern is one of the best Gangster Drama Thriller with great msg but it's essence will truly lost if same story will set up in Punjab with crappy Action sequences that Sallu Bhai will do, hopes that crappy remake will bring more eyes on og one.
Plus I'm in madly love with Vikram Vedha the story and amount of detailing that movie has is something alien in Bollywood cinema and whoever may play role of vedha, Ameer, Hrithik or even SRK no one can bring that Charisma and effortless charm of Vijay Sethupathi that man has simple yet extra ordinary screen presence, anyone cannot overshadow R. Madhvan with ease unless he is Vijay not looking forward at all for remake because I'm 100% sure they can't replicate original similar with commercial hit like Ala Vaikunthpuromulo no kartik Or any new star can replace stardom and electric screen presence of Allu with those chaetbuater hit songs they simply can't remake songs like Buttabomba and recreate magic of AA with moves.

But he is still a good actor. TO everyone who say the movie is fully loaded of nepotism; The movie is directed by the same original director, and produced by reputed producers from the Telugu industry. Most of the technicians from the original were hired again here. Therefore the remake, Is much more of a south film. I just plead u to not spread unwanted hatred. Because Nani, himself said in an interview, that he wants this film to reach to more people thru shahid.

The point which Nani makes during the start was absolutely spot on.
I have always felt as if those who buy the rights to original south Indian movie deliberately make the name of movie , dialogues cheesy and unlike the original. They also edit the movie ...
Those who have seen the original version would be seriously shocked to see the dubbed versions.

Jammy.. Do watch Merku Thodarchi Malai (trans. Western Ghats) from production house of Vijay sethupathi. This movie is worth of recommending as it is not a normal commercial one. It is the movie that completely based on the on life in Western Ghats. This movie have lots of insights about Social conflicts and problems faced by farmers. The sad part is that, it is not reached well among audience but it won many awards..... This movie can be said as an example for extreme realism in movies....

As someone from the south, I feel like we don't really have an issue with watching movies from other parts of India with subtitles./dubbing. I think it's a refreshing experience. However, those who predominately only watch bollywood, look down at the movies from the South and are too lazy to deal with subtitles/dubbing.

I remember that I was a big fan of Bollywood (I am not from India) and all my childhood I had been thinking that Indian movies were only Bollywood until I watched my first Telegu movie when I was 12 years old, I remember like it was yesterday haha , In that moment is when I started to be very into south Indian movies learning the different movie industry in India, languages ,culture , accent so I can differentiate and understand the different sounds of color of each cinema industry like : Kannada, Mayalam, telegu, tamil, Bengali ,etc, and later I realized the REMAKE MOVIES . in Perú there is a lot of people praising actors like SRK, Salman Khan, Alia Bhat, etc. At that moment ok jaanu was a hit in all bollywood lovers in my country and I watched the original OK jaanu which is tamil and named:ok Kanmani , and I was a little frustrated because all said that is something new and fresh from Bollywood and I was in all the comments: This film is not original from Bollywood is only a copy-paste literally the original is Tamil , and people were like: What is Tamil? , I think that Bollywood is literally appropriating and stealing the credit films.
