    The levers on the base are actually there to lift and break the seal of the suction pad if you're not using the clamps. Great first look tho! I'm so stoked I actually managed to order one!

      You're absolutely right, don't use the levers for anything else other than to release it from the sticky Scotch M3 surface.

I don't feel like the shaft and the mechanism that holds it/takes the position and rotation readings are designed to hold the weight of the entire back section. I won't be surprised if taking a wrong turn while you hold it like that will result in the mechanism breaking or bending in such a way that the readings become inaccurate

    Looks great!!

    • @Stoney3K
      @Stoney3K 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speedbrake lever feels a little counterintuitive if you first use it on an airliner, because "down" is the normal flight position, which is all the way forward.

    Just to clarify: The tabs he is talking about on the base plate at 20:35 is NOT to give it a “rake”. YOU WILL RUIN YOUR BASE PLATE. I cannot emphasize this enough. DO NOT USE THE TABS ON THE BASE PLATE FOR LIFTING THE UNIT AT ALL, YOU WILL BREAK IT. They are used for lifting the suction pad off the table a little so you can get the base plate off the table more easily.

    Really pleased to see the unboxing vids finally starting to come out for the throttle. I’ve had one on order since Dec 2018, think I pre ordered it day one when it came onto the Aerosoft website. Was lucky enough to use a alpha build of the throttle at Cosford last year and I can state it was one of the best home throttle setups I’ve ever used, and that trim wheel was actually the best home sim trim wheel I had ever used. Even though it wasn’t connected at all to the yoke, it actually fooled my brain into thinking the pressure was being released from the yoke as I turned it. It truly did feel real and a fully connected flight control system.
    Hopefully they have managed to keep that feeling into the production model. The only slight issue was the levers moved horizontally when you had hold of them and felt a little cheap, however they did state at the time, they were aware and was gonna try and improve the feel. Fingers crossed they have managed that, and I’ll be intrested to see what turns up in the reviews.
    However don’t get me wrong, that’s not a complaint. This was still hands down the best throttle quadrant i have ever used in decades of home simming. I really am looking forward to adding it to my cockpit in the hopefully near future

    I have the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant now for 4 months. As a XP-11 flyer, I enjoy the ability to work the throttle. BUT only 2 months in using the unit, I started to get problems with the thrust reverse switches. I first were thinking it was my poor ability to interact with the XP11 software. But later I realized the problem was not with the software of the switches in the levers, but the fact that the wires running inside to the controller card were breaking. I realized this when I opened the controller and visually inspected the wires. 4 of the routed wire were all broken. My observation was that the wire they were using is too hard, and during bending would suffer fatigue damage. Realizing this, it was not really possible to solve the problem by doing an exchange of the bravo unit, as this problem is a Design fault, and I would just be getting the same failure in the future. Therefore, I replaced all the routed wires with a thinner more flexible gauge wire and adding additional support at the tight corner bends. After my repair to date I had no more problems with the functionality. I do not know if other users have the same problem? Let me know.

      That was the first question I wondered as well when I first discovered this new throttle quadrant. It's quite unbelievable when I see how well thought out this product is from top to bottom. How could they miss this important part. It really appears to be almost impossible to use the buttons when the levers are fully forward. Or at least it will definitely be awkward to reach them then.
      And given that, imo, these buttons are ideal to map all lights with, it seems really unhandy. You will operate some light switches while some levers will be fully forward but this setup seems to make this impossible.

    The idea of Honeycomb Aeronautics to use the sticky Scotch M3 surface is nice, but will only work on an absolutely smooth surface (like a glass or laminated desk) any structure on the surface of your desk will make it insufficient to be used as an alternative for the clamps. In order to use the clamps for my Alpha Yoke I had to make two gaps in the frame of my desk with an angle grinder. Because for my rigid desk the clamps are 1 cm too short unfortunately.

    Nice video and nice throttle quadrant as well, these days you can get an entire airplane cockpit on your desk with all switches and displays, very costly though

    The Honeycomb stuff looks great. I'll be interested in seeing them come out with rudder pedals too. Just have those combined with an Elgato stream deck or two and you got the ultimate virtual cockpit.

      Yeah I got the Logitech yoke and throttle and that throttle thing is a joke it’s the worst thing ever I wish I knew before buying it and just invested in the honeycomb stuff just waiting for the rudder peddles

    Very nice setup indeed, shame it wouldn't do me justice though in DCS. One thing I have noticed with this Honeycomb setup is that the quality is nice, but in some areas I feel like it falls short, like the throttle levers and trim wheel.

    I wonder how the autopilot section on this will handle the “managed speed” etc on the Airbus?

    • @ChrisVirgilio
      @ChrisVirgilio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure of the exact answer but I know they have a set of airbus handles sold separately.

      I think that the autopilot will only be good for GA, the airliners it’s probably just better to use the one in the sim.

  • @SoloX531
    @SoloX531 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The button on the GA throttle lever is the TO/GA button.

    I do find it curious that they used the same housing as the Alpha, because there's nothing but empty space in the rear section right now, instead of having some clamping system on the back panel, like Saitek/Logitech uses.

    Good on you for having one. I really hope you enjoy it. I am however starting to get salty. 2020 is the year of disappointments. I get to see others use stuff I'd like and cannot get. I preordered the throttle in August and the delivery has been pushed to mid December, my 3080 is nowhere to be seen since two months... All I can do is gawk at influencer videos having fun with the stuff... Slowly gets annoying.

    • @JD_79
      @JD_79 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are not alone, I'm seeing the same comments on most of these influencer vids and I feel the same way. At least with Squirrel you know he'll actually use the item. I can't believe the number of these that went out to jo-blow TH-camrs who haven't the first clue how to set them up and use them properly. That makes me salty!

      For those that were able to order from the factory, the first week of shipments should be next week, then the week by week deliveries. That also means that starting next week Honeycomb will start shipping to third party suppliers too. Probably take a little while to get to them if they go by ship, unless of course they sprung for air shipment. Good luck. As to the video cards, I think most folks are dealing with that. It is why for my new build I just decided to get a 5700 XT which will get me started and I can wait to see what happens with the 3000 cards as well as Big Navi when it comes out. Let them all get the deliveries figured out and get one when they are plentiful in a year or so.

    Ah! So that's what you look like! not at all what I imagined from watching your flight sim videos! :-) :Great vid as usual. I don't think my level of usage of Flight Sim warrents me getting such a set up but having watched this the Christmas wish list is being re written !

    I'd imagine the throttle "red switch" is the Takeoff/Go-around switch. On aircraft like the Q400 or King Air, the TOGA button switches modes for the flight director (and on the Q400, progress the flightplan to the Go Around portion in the FMS) without having to take hands off the throttle as you advance them to go around power.

    • @TheCharlieb20
      @TheCharlieb20 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, TOGA - should also disengage the auto throttle when its active (double click from memory)

    Waiting for the reviews on Sunday, but my initial impressions are that it looks way too big for my desk, and the lack of flaps lever detents is a huge bummer. All the autopilot is a GA setup and wouldn’t really work for commercial, especially not for Airbus (pull and push functions on the knobs). This is still an amazing first version, can’t wait to see iterations on this :)

    Been looking at this product off and on on Amazon for the last couple weeks as I'm looking for a good replacement for the Saitek system. Looks like it has alot of potential given the range of customisable parts. Can't wait to see your review of it!

    The red button on the throttle for the general aviation should be the go around button. It should trigger the avionics to guide towards published missed and set flight directors for go around pitch.
