    I feel like that price isn't actually that crazy haha it can be 250$ round trip on BC ferries per car for a 2 hour trip, times that by 6 add two meals and a cabin and private bathroom, 300$ CAD per person sounds like a bargain haha I just traveled on the Saint John to Digby ferry a couple weeks ago for 170$ CAD one way for 2 hours on the boat haha but I guess by Mexico standards that's pretty pricey lol

    Only did something like this from Wales to Dublin, though we were on the train from London to Wales, and the terminals are in the same building. We had to switch from an Irish Sea Ferry to a Stena because something was broken on the Irish Sea Ferry and it never left Dublin in the morning. We had to check our bags, then boarded on a bus which stayed on board, and drove us off. The “terminal” in Dubin was in the port, as in cargo. There was an airport style belt for picking up luggage, but no: cash exchange, no taxi stand, only a stuffed to the gills (because everyone had luggage) double decker bus that cost us £5 (it was supposed to be euros, but we couldn’t change our money anywhere (there wasn’t one in Anglesea terminal either, and we had no time to wander around the town with the ferry company switch changing the schedule.) We asked the bus driver about that, and he dropped us at a place to finally switch us to Euros, but then we had to walk a while to get our bearings, found the end of Grafton Street, and finally walked to our hotel near the other end in a bit of a drizzle.

Like your load way out back I was content that it didn’t affect steering nor cornering until I braked on a wet corner. Around the rear end came hence my suggestion to you....if that happens to you it will come around despite your best efforts it is best to let it come 180 degrees so your facing back the way you came....just casually drove on back the way you just came and watchers will think you’re very clever.....😂😂😂

  • @DaliaCR
    @DaliaCR ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I don't know guys, I have admired and liked your content for years but as a Mexican -living in Canada-, the constant mean joking feels like too much sometimes (I also feel this is not the easiest trip for a senior couple so I'm understanding in that sense). Now, Mexico might not be up to Canadian standards in A LOT of stuff but I wonder if you were actually expecting it to be (?). You guys keep saying you did the research and I've followed you for a couple years so I don't doubt your capacity to do so, and I also know how aware of privilege you are, it's just that lately that has not been showing.
    As for the messy things that you have gone through, I think other comments are accurate: some things you try to do are not precisely touristic in Mexico (hiking, ferries, even camping sites), they are not prepared for them. My issue with this is what your baseline is to compare the particular non-Mexico suitable/common experience you've chosen to have (Canada? The Netherlands?). Sometimes I am also concerned about the advice that you decide to ignore. Durango? Yeah, Mexican people we know we don't go there unless we really have to, and it is likely nothing bad will happen but if it does, what then?
    Finally, I do really appreciate the effort you've put into learning Spanish, I think it was a very smart move and I very much liked watching that immersive experience you had.

    • @teetertotter5787
      @teetertotter5787 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made my comment before seeing yours, but yes I am getting the same sense that you articulate. The constant assessment from their rich white Canadian privileged lens is tiresome. It's not quite ugly American tourist, but certainly on the spectrum. I expected better from them really.

      Thanks for the comment! It’s sad to hear that you see our experience as condescending or uninformed. Our reactions to the experiences were having is based on our lives thus far. We can’t help but compare to life at home because that’s where we are from. None of it is to drag on Mexico. We’re clearly having fun and enjoying the experience, the reason we’re surprised by the ferry is because people had prepared us for a much worse time! I appreciate the comment and the feedback.

    • @OrcaMichelle
      @OrcaMichelle ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Another viewer mentioned the way you talk about Mexico and the experiences you are having. I have to agree, you come across as very condescending and better than. The constant smirks and remarks are never ending. And it’s more than just Mexico, it’s everything that’s non Canadian. I’ve been around French Canadians that come to the states in the winter. They complain constantly about the traffic, the prices, the people, the insects, and wildlife the list goes on. All I hear is how much better Canada is. So I know it’s not just the two of you, it’s the culture you have come from. I used to have dinners with the Canadians, snowbirds now I do everything I can to avoid them. By the way, with all the complaining these snowbirds keep returning year after year. I was smirky with you before. To a point I was mimicking the way you act about the states.

    I don’t understand the comments that say this video is whiny... it’s probably the same people who would’ve complained MORE had they been in your place. What I agree on is that Mexican bureaucracy is hell, anywhere you go at all times. Just be patient.
    Anyway, now that you’re in mainland Mexico, please be careful and try to stick to federal highways. Especially up north it’s really easy to just disappear. Try to be discrete, and I know it’s difficult being a TH-camr, but talking to the camera isn’t a great idea. I would stick to Pueblos Magicos as you’re going down, usually they tend to be more safe.
    Edit: also try sleeping in hotels, motels, or a designated area. It’s really dangerous to just go into the wild because you don’t know whether you’re trespassing narco territory. Just stay in the main roads

    The challenge for you is to drop your white rich privileged lens and just start experiencing things without assessing and editorializing all the time. Travel is more fun when you take the experiences as they come instead of comparing them to your privileged expectations of life. Stressful is what happens when you have X expectation vs Y reality. How about just experience the ferry ride. Like with meditation where you observe your thoughts without putting judgement and assessment on each one. Just watch them float by like boats where there is no too small, too big, too fast, too slow. It all just IS.

      Thanks for the comment, but I have to push back a little bit though. We’re enjoying ourselves despite an objectively challenging travel experience. I think perhaps you’re using the context of us being in Mexico to make this a argument that were being unkind when it is simply our experience while in a stressful situation. We have acknowledged our privilege on this journey multiple times and we continue to document what it’s really like travelling this way.

      not to speak over the lovely channel owners - your point about just experiencing things would be more relevant if this were just a mere travel vlog. The series opening generally states that @Levi & Leah are trying to show that you do not need a big travel van to have this kind of adventure so the assessment and editorializing is an essential part of the educational process. Comparing and contrasting are helpful if this is something someone out there wants to do, and even though this is a trip I personally will likely never go on I still appreciate the nuance and the information being provided.

To the core this is who these 2 individuals are. Asking them not to smirk, complain, compare is asking them not to be themselves. At the end of the day they aren’t very nice people.

      my Mama told me if you don't have anything nice to say just don't. If you don't like the channel don't watch it. It's that simple.

    You paid 1200 Canadian dollars for 4 people and two cars. Do you think it is expensive? You crosses the Cortés Ocean including your cars!!! You sleep in a cabin including a complete bathroom. Excuse me guys, that is not expensive.

    This video is so dang whiny. Most of the trouble you are having is because you don't know enough spanish which is NOT the locals fault.

      It really amazes me when tourist go to another country and expect everything to be laid out on a silver platter. Also the reason why the steps are not outlined so well is because this is probably not a common tourist thing to do.

      Never said anything about this being “locals fault”. 😅

      As you said… the steps weren’t clearly outlined which is what made it difficult. I think we had a pretty positive disposition the whole time honestly so this sounds more like your perspective than ours lol

      @@LeahandLevi Well another comment just said that the price is pretty fair. You were complaining about the prices as well which is crazy. You are literally shipping your car and you have accommodation's for 300 per person. Anyways i'm done here have a nice day.

      @@danieley4 I'm not sure you understand what whining and complaining are. This is a travel vlog and they are documenting their experiences. It's ok for them to express frustrations at challenges they face. Would you rather they lie? They are always respectful. Compared to other experiences they've had in Mexico this is more confusing and more expensive.
