- I was in the town of Mazatlan in the west side of Mexico and about to go on a over night ferry ride across the gulf of California and in to the town of La Paz in the Baja California peninsula (with Baja Ferries). I had paid 1500 pesos for the ride that would take 17 hours over night. Watch the video to find out what I did on the ferry! I had also previously come from other towns in Mexico further down south in Zihuatanejo And Manzanillo.

That's probably why it is named La Paz.
A college buddy and I took the overnight ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan back in 1986. We opted for a room with 4 bunks -- the beds would not pass your bounce test, but they were comfortable enough to sleep throughout the 14 hour trip. If I recall, the cost was about $18 each. We started our trip the day before in Tijuana (TJ) on a Tres Estrellas bus, and rode through the night down the Baja penninsula. Three bus drivers on rotation -- one driver, one spotter looking out for wildlife and cattle on the highway (open grazing throughout Baja), and one guy sleeping on a mattress in the luggage compartment under the bus. We stayed awake all night listening to a mix of Pedro Vargas, Mariachi music, and Elvis blaring from the driver's boombox. Good times!

In '82 I remember staying at a hotel, which had once been a convent and getting bitten by bedbugs. I remember complaining about them and the maintenance guy was there in no time with no mask, and with a pump sprayer, the old fashioned kind with the canister at the end of the pump, spraying pesticide around the room and outside of the room. Those were some crazy times. I'm enjoying listening to your experiences and reflecting back on my own travels there.

How is TJ? My adult son is adamant we go there to find a cheap dentist, even tho we already been to Los Algodones below Yuma AZ, and know a place, but he thinks its going to be better there, and I know he just wants to go there to party.

People like traveling at night because you can ignore time. You get the boat on Mazatlan, fall asleep, and wake up in BCS. Most people travel at night for that reason, companies use the slogan "you'll be there in the blink of an eye", it refers to falling sleep and waking up at your destination.
Baja California shares winter with California so probably still a little cold. Cant wait for the Cabo episode. Try and swim in the water if you can please

My favorite Beach resort is Puerto Vallarta. I just love the green vegetation and how homes and hotels are nestled on the mts. The water in Cancun may be prettier and clear though.

Please go to ‘Todos Santos’... That’s where the Eagles Band wrote their famous song “Hotel California” but be forewarned, you may never leave Todos Santos also... Their actual hotel is in the town & would make for a great video & visit...
Not true
The reason of the high ferry cost is because low demand, many people in Mexico prefers to use airplane between Mazatlan and Baja California (also because is faster), Ferry is mainly if you have a car to move between those 2 cities. Note both Bajas states are considered bordering states so that is why they ask many questions when arrive there, it is like entering Mexico again.
We love watching your Videos William, cause we get to see other places in Mexico.
But our favorite is Ixtapa.

Nice video, and the warning about the ferry, I had my suspicions. I find that I need to stay in a town for a couple months to fall into the groove of life and savor the essence. Enjoy your dash through Baja. :)
William the ferry ⛴ is from Mazatlan to Pichelinge. Is a small town. Then you get to La Paz. Just so you know. I been on those places 🇲🇽 👍🏼

As usual, excellent video! Once you rest, you are going to enjoy your stay in La Paz. It is small and beautiful city with lots to places to visit good food and dining seafood restaurants. It's people are very nice. Sorry to know about your accident you had long time ago. Please take good care and go easy with your dives. You have a good attitude towards life and a fine sense of humor. Thanks for the Ferry insight. A bucket list must, but only once I think. La Paz, or the Peace, visited by Spanish explorers, but tough to live in. Enjoy the Beaches and tranquility, and local seafood or at least a damn Taco!

@@alexalejandro2910 That place (La Paz & Cabo) are the best, I grew up in Los Angeles and that was my go to vacation.
@@alexalejandro2910 I did the trip (in October/November) from Mazatlán to Puerto Vallarta to Manzanillo to Zihuatanejo to Acapulco then to Puerto Escondido. I really should have gone to Huatulco, but I took almost a month to do my trip and needed to get my breath! It was a very fun trip - and fairly easy except when the bus from Acapulco to Puerto Escondido changed their hours on me :)

It was great seeing what taken the ferry to La Paz is like. I always wondered about the process. Looooong trip! Your videos are fun to watch, and very informational.
I think I would choose the Eastern part, Yucatan peninsula, over the west coast of Mexico.

Years ago there was a ferry between Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, it was an overnight sailing and it was very nice.
I was hoping you were going to go on deck in the middle of the night and be presented with a treasure chest of stars...and a couple of Tic-Tac UAPs.

Take ginger capsules before and during any sailings. That helps curb sea sickness.

I say this because Mexico is also beautiful mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, magical towns and cloud forests.
If you are going to return to the Yucatan peninsula, you can take advantage and visit places like that.
And remember that in Campeche and the State of Yucatan there are also beautiful beaches.

Thank you very much for sharing, I’ve been looking for information about these ferry trips and finally I see a video with the details of the inside of the ship. Did you had the chance to see the cabins ?, does it worth it to pay for a cabin?
They make these bracelets that have a button on them and you wear them on your wrist (pushes on your pressure points ) and it helps you not get seasick!
I believe they’re from Sweden.
