Great video. I had an allergy test done and they told me that I was allergic to mold. Up until today I was getting by just running hot water through the underside of my coffee mug lid and scrubbing it with a scrub brush and dish soap. But as you talk about in your video, this is not enough and you can’t get to all of the brownish black muck with this approach. This morning the sludge that I saw finally made me decide to toss the coffee mug lid into the trash. The coffee mug itself is fine and very easy to clean and I just will not use a lid any longer because pretty much all of them have the same problem, more or less. Hey if your coffee gets cold, you can always warm it back up in the microwave.

What kind of symptoms do you have related to mold?

Great video. I cleaned my cup pretty well between uses i think. The other day as i was pooring our my cleaning water i noticed a strip of mold go down the drain. Five massive shakes later it kept peeling off pieces of mold. I will be throwing this away. I'm glad i didnt get too sick, but who knows how long my body has been fighting crap i wasnt aware of. This should be recalled.

THANK YOU. Contigo seems to believe that just by adding an "Easy Clean" latch that somehow it'll make cleaning the inner mechanism of the lid any more thorough. It's simply not true. Like you said, unless you can open it completely, just rinsing the lid will just not do. Hand washing this bottle is for a sure a no go.

Yikes.. I have a Contigo travel mug that I take everywhere and I clean it religiously to avoid mold build up. Lo and behold.. I discovered more mold that was hidden in the cap for who knows how long. I'm so grossed out and will probably be smashing the lid soon as I'm curious to what other mold growth is lurking in there... Disgusting

KeiCaT I must and missed your comment here on this video. I'm glad you caught the mold in the hidden spots and hope we've learned from this video and share the info 👍

I thought it was my creamer getting stained by the coffee. I just love my cup...ugh it is the very same one you have thrown out.

That cup is the 1st generation. Now I see alot of guys here at work have the same cup, BUT the company have updated it, to allow to take it fully apart and clean it. So Gen 2 cups are much better! Might want to consider getting the new version 😊

What I don't understand is why they've made these cups so damn hard to clean. They're so over-engineered with so many extra nooks and crannies they're just silly. The updated version of this cup has an area behind the seal but even after a moderate amount of use , will be packed full of black, stinky off tasting mould. You can't tell me that an engineer couldn't sit down for an afternoon and design something better, that could either be taken apart easier, or had fewer moving parts and hiding places.
