Honestly, we need to see what patents, palworld did have tons of stuff that looked outright copies of stuff in Pokémon. But is weird also, rick and morty have a game that looked a lot like Pokémon and nothing happen to them.
At least Warner Bros’ Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor was unique and complex enough that they had a leg(however flimsy) to stand on when trying to patent a game mechanic. And even that didn’t go through
That patent is so loosely written they could sue a fishing game for throwing a net to catch a fish. "You threw an object to catch an animal! It's the same thing, so I'm suing you!" They should be laughed out of court. That is like COD trying to patent using guns, then suing every other shooter ever made. Or Harvest Moon patenting farming and saying no one else can include that mechanic in their games.
I was looking into some of them, most are vague, but I am surprised they've patented the design of the vending machines in the games. Also, court "cases in japan are one sided for the fillers" explains the Ace Attorney games pretty well
I don't think is random that they decided to sue for a patent, this reads more like "don't try to compete with Pokémon" more than "you are using my characters". By suing for the patent they are making sure that they have no competition.
Time for consumers to speak up. If Nintendo cares so much about it's image, I wonder what piles of burning Switches will look for their image. It isn't like they don't break anyways on consumers.
You know what this lawsuit reminds me of, when DC comics in the late 60’s try to sue Fawcett Publications the company who publish the captain marvel aka Shazam comics because DC thinks that Shazam was a huge ripoff of Superman.
The previous season of PUBG Mobile has players ride on flying manta rays. The season before players were riding on the floating half of a mecha. A couple of season before a pteranodon. And the hoverboards several seasons ago. Oh, there were also thematic throwable projectiles that capture players instead of killing them. I can't wait for Nintendo to sue EVERY game dev in existence because apparently they hold the patents to all basic game mechanics in the world.
_Corporations should not benefit from Intellectual Property Protections Laws._ Patents should not be able to prevent things from being made, absolutely the owner of a patent should get a cut in the money the person using the patent ears.
The most amusing thing is that people are assuming it's something in the game now. If that was the case, palworld never would have launched. It has to be something new, I would assume a new patch adds a new mechanic, and because of this lawsuit, we'll never see it in all likely hood This is literally what people wanted since palworld's release There are countless fan games that use the 'copywrited' mechanics, and they're left alone
I like palworld and all but I am kind of with the japanese audience which is more on nintendo's side. I dont like Palworld playing the indie game card when they are literally working closely with sony lately and made a whole lot of money. And frankly I do agree that pocketpair was being somewhat disrespectful towards the pokemon company with the entire way they constructed palworld. In the end we'll see what the courts say. To clarify in japan people dont seem to think that those patents shouldn't exist. They moreso have a stance of "well they exist so nintendo is being very merciful and nice when they don't enforce em". Apparently nintendo has a valid pattent on the onscreen joystick for mobile games but thats still widely used bc nintendo is "being nice"
Should mention that the CEO of Pocketpair is a scumbag. The lead character designer just admitted the CEO told his staff Nintendo won't sue and to "make top 100 Pokemon". So the AI pokemon thing was a lie. Full quote MTL: don't care if it's a breach of contract. More than that, as a former character designer involved, will never forgive you. First, the CEO said: "I know Nintendo, so can't sue them right away." And the second instruction to me was, "Please create a design that will be ranked within the top 100 in the Pokemon popularity rankings."
...So that's why there isn't a nemesis system in more games? We only have 2 games with that unique and fun mechanic that should be explored more because some sh*t head in the government decided on this bs form of law that allows people to put a price tag on "Ideas" and "creativity"? I don't know what to say other than it isn't video games that's making me violent right now. Edit: and now that I've cooled my head a bit, I thought of an argument against Patents as they currently are. The creation of a gaming mechanic down to its core is nothing more than what scientists do every time they make breakthrough discoveries in the field of science and should only really be rewarded as such. It isn't a copyright but a way to put your name engraved in books forever as the discovery is named after/by the person/people that discovered it. If the goal for making such a discovery is money, then improve upon the system and sell it instead of weighing everyone else down by setting up such vague copyright laws to prevent others from improving upon your discovery of a formula that is so easily recreated.
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company probably had put together a case months ago, but the trigger for this lawsuit probably came from Pocketpair trying to tie up with Sony and Aniplex. Once Sony and Aniplex enter the picture, Nintendo and friends cannot just sit around and do nothing.
Imma hold my breath because there likely more stuff going on that we dont know about. But given people reacting are from the west theyre gonna make opinions before we actually get all the facts
This sounds on par with Magic the Gathering patenting the act of turning a card sideways. Didn't Nintendo also try patenting the concept of a touch screen back when they made the Nintendo DS?
I wish someone patented the gatcha system in mobile games so almost nobody could use them in new games. For this case Nintendo wont innovate much in Pokemon games because the franchise is simply successful as it is and from what I see this patent issue is to impede competition in the market.
the patent was published after the game had already been released for months ... this should have never even been allowed to even see the light of day to begin with ... they are not in the legal right at all here
The nemesis system engine is patent not the gameplay. A video came companies were able to patent gameplay then it would effectively create a monopoly other smaller developers would not be able to compete

Temtem is way closer to pokemon but not a peep, they don't like palworld since it made alot of money and was a mega hit.
Man i forgot about this game. I bought it during the hype, realized my pc gets a bit too hot and i need a cooler. And then months and months have passed
Not surprised they would sue. So Nintendo...
Someone said that if they're sueing now, it's because the PalWorld died down in popularity and they have something that could make them win the lawsuit.
Wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of players return to Palworld to protest Nintendo
@@ReiseLukas it wouldn't be the first time this had happened
Thats what im thinking. They knew they couldnt sue with the eyes on palworld.
Also the patent timing too. Seems well planned out...
@@ReiseLukas Doing that rn
Nintendo suing Pocket Pair for similar mechanics within Pokemon and Palworld is like if Nintendo sued Hoyo for similar mechanics within Botw and Genshin. You can copyright a character but you can't copyright a game mechanic especially sense DQ and SMT exists, DQ for the monster designs and SMT for the game mechanic.
Considering it's a joint lawsuit with Nintendo and TPC I'm guessing it isn't just pokemon mechanic patents they're going after, there's most likely some Zelda game patents involved too
At this point the people that invested their money into nintendo need to sue nintendo
In actually gonna be surprised if palworld wins this case. Nintendo is a big corporation, idk how palworld is gonna win this.
Keeping that beautiful pc in frame is nice
Harry Potter: "Snake appears from a magic item."
Nintendo: "Lawsuit!" XD
Companies shouldn't have the right to patent mechanics in the first place, Can you imagine if Sony had patent double joystick at the time and no other companie being able to do the same control, that would be stupid.
this is Creativity Gatekeeping and it should be Illegal.
It is morally right to pirate anything the Pokémon company makes
You just know Nintendo Ninjas were scrapping and monitoring every INCH of the game to find anything they could possibly sue for.
I'm glad they did. I'm hoping the Palworld devs go bankrupt, haha.
yikes, imagine licking the boots of a tyrant. @@jkd610
It was bound to happen. The question was when was it gonna happen.
The sad part is, I can almost guarantee that Nintendo could have just brought Pocket Pair on as a co-man for Gamefreak to help develop future Pokémon spin-off games and Pocket Pair would have been more than happy to join them.
But that would make too much sense.
@@aldolibreri791 still recall an article a month or more ago, where the Pocket Pair CEO reacted the news, that other companies wanted to try their hand at what Palworld did and how he felt stoked over it.

Jokes aside, if Nintendo gets away with this, there's nothing that can stop them from going after anyone. With Pokemon's support, they've become too big and powerful.

I have not played Pokemon since Legends Arceus. The Diamond and Pearl remakes hurt my soul to know exists
Pokemon been stealing designs for decades they would never sue for that 😅
Some of those patents were filed after palworld's release. Of course they are.
"Mounting an air object and flying" errrrrrrrr.... SKyim? Mounting dragons and flying on them? What, are they going to go after Bethesda?
Honestly, we need to see what patents, palworld did have tons of stuff that looked outright copies of stuff in Pokémon.
But is weird also, rick and morty have a game that looked a lot like Pokémon and nothing happen to them.
It's because PalWorld got popular
At least Warner Bros’ Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor was unique and complex enough that they had a leg(however flimsy) to stand on when trying to patent a game mechanic. And even that didn’t go through
This will destroy Nintendo‘s reputation forever
That patent is so loosely written they could sue a fishing game for throwing a net to catch a fish. "You threw an object to catch an animal! It's the same thing, so I'm suing you!" They should be laughed out of court. That is like COD trying to patent using guns, then suing every other shooter ever made. Or Harvest Moon patenting farming and saying no one else can include that mechanic in their games.
I was looking into some of them, most are vague, but I am surprised they've patented the design of the vending machines in the games.
Also, court "cases in japan are one sided for the fillers" explains the Ace Attorney games pretty well
Bruh when is anyone gonna bring Nintendo to court for the clear evident anti trust/anti competitive behavior they seem to love so much?
They have plenty of indie games similar to Pokémon on the Switch, so there isn't really any anti-competitive behaviour.
I don't think is random that they decided to sue for a patent, this reads more like "don't try to compete with Pokémon" more than "you are using my characters". By suing for the patent they are making sure that they have no competition.
oh wow i've been following you forever on twitter and just now found out you had a youtube channel lmao.
this patent lawsuit not copyright this could affect all monster catching game like Nexomon 3 Azur promilia
Time for consumers to speak up. If Nintendo cares so much about it's image, I wonder what piles of burning Switches will look for their image. It isn't like they don't break anyways on consumers.
I seen this coming since last year 😂
Cuz ain’t no way did this game make history on Steam without Nintendon’t having something to say. 🤦🏽♂️
Theres no way their actually go after them for game mechanics...
Nintendo is gonna lose the lawsuit if the palword team is prepared enough.
i hope they are sadge
_Corporations should not benefit from Intellectual Property Protections Laws._
Patents should not be able to prevent things from being made, absolutely the owner of a patent should get a cut in the money the person using the patent ears.
It was fun while it lasted
0:36 ohh nooo, not pokemons very own and unique designs that deffinitly don't resemble Dragon Quest whatsoever!
Exactly, they don't
They're using the shotgun approach to either exploit or ir remove the competition.
The most amusing thing is that people are assuming it's something in the game now. If that was the case, palworld never would have launched. It has to be something new, I would assume a new patch adds a new mechanic, and because of this lawsuit, we'll never see it in all likely hood
This is literally what people wanted since palworld's release
There are countless fan games that use the 'copywrited' mechanics, and they're left alone
I would think that patenting a game mechanic would essentially be creating a monopoly.
Posted a video about this early this morning, I was obviously upset.
Bro, pokemon fans were BEGGING and PRAYING for this.

Palworld the ark with pokemon elements.
Should mention that the CEO of Pocketpair is a scumbag. The lead character designer just admitted the CEO told his staff Nintendo won't sue and to "make top 100 Pokemon". So the AI pokemon thing was a lie.
Full quote MTL:
don't care if it's a breach of contract. More than that, as a former character designer involved, will never forgive you. First, the CEO said:
"I know Nintendo, so can't sue them right away."
And the second instruction to me was, "Please create a design that will be ranked within the top 100 in the Pokemon popularity rankings."

...So that's why there isn't a nemesis system in more games?
I know this is completely unrelated, but I really do think you should start that gaming channel Chibi🎮
Since when they can copyright game mechanics?
the patent was published after the game had already been released for months ... this should have never even been allowed to even see the light of day to begin with ... they are not in the legal right at all here
Pathetic.
The nemesis system engine is patent not the gameplay. A video came companies were able to patent gameplay then it would effectively create a monopoly other smaller developers would not be able to compete
