Hey @1AAuto, you mention when you put the rotor on, that you want to feel tension from the parking brake. Is the brake engaged at this point or are you saying it should lightly rub on the rotor hub when the brake is not engaged? Sorry, not sure what you meant by "tension". Thanks for a great video as always!

I have an 09 Explorer. That top spring is the biggest PITA!!! It is super strong! I cannot get it to latch to the other side. Prepare for a long day folks!

Just did my 05 explorer and there was no easy way to pull the top spring if the pins were inserted - not enough room between the hub and the shoes to squeeze in the vice grips no matter what I did. Instead I put the top spring on first, pulled the shoes into place THEN put the pins in and finished by putting in the adjuster and bottom spring. For some reason it was much easier this way.
n any case, thanks for making this video, it made it very clear how to do the job. New brakes work great!
Edited to add, after finishing the job today I realized the previous owner had actually cut a notch in the hub to allow access to the pins and clips. The method I used could not work otherwise but it speaks to the difficulty of attaching the top spring that someone felt the need to do this. If the CV axels ever go I'll replace the entire hub and knuckle as a unit at the same time.

I could not get it using the vise grip. Here's what i did. I pulled a small skinny punch out of the tool box. Got the first side in and then ran the punch through the other loop and then the tip of punch in the hole. I stretched it and used a screw driver to help slide the spring down the punch. It took a couple of attempts but once it got caught on the lip of the hole I used the screw driver to push it in the rest of the way. First side about 90 min and lots of cussing..Second side about 30 min..Thanks for the video.

Great video. Only mistake is that you replaced the star adjuster in backwards. Star should be facing the rear of vehicle not front.

I thought that too, but video show that when he took it apart, star was facing towards the front before he took it out.

Is it more typical that the springs get stretched out and need replacing than the cable? I ask because I did 2 brake adjustments and the pedal still goes to the floor. Thanks

The actuator levers and boot are missing from my 06Explorer parking brake, the cables are there and not frozen. Where can I buy those parts? I can only buy shoes and spring/pin hardware kits it seems.

I have a 2005 ford explorer sport trac and the emergency brake shoes have two springs on top of shoes one in the front and one in the back.how do you get this spring off and then back on when it is behind the shoes. Any help would be appreciated.

soo he just took the caliper off, in my experience it makes life ALLOT easier but taking the caliper and calliper bracket off its still only two bolts in the back, (4 if you include the dust cover nuts)
soo unbolt the dust cover in the back (the two nuts), then once thats out, take a deep well socket (may need a breaker bar) and unbolt the two bolt studs and the whole caliper with caliper bracket will come off, gives you allot more room for your hands, and or prying and tools to get in there .

I can't believe you pushed in the pin clip in with your fingers. Several kits I've gotten locally have rock hard springs that don't allow the shoes to move when installed,
and they are virtually impossible to install with two hands. One is chinese -autozone, oriellys, the other is made in India -Napa, Advance auto, AC delco and Raybestos.
All crap. The chinese pins break when you try to install them, can't imagine they would last with that force on them. Wagner makes the easy pin/clip assembly and
Centric makes the coil spring/quarter turn washer which seems to be the original Ford type -but available online only. Two Ford dealerships could not find anything
on their computer -they actually told me they couldn't know if they came with the shoes until they order one. I don't get it.
How would I know which kind you stock? Not ordering only to find that they are the same as the local stuff.
