For anyone who doesn't know, in the books Peter Petigrew kills himself by choking himself back at Malfoy Manor, Harry DOESN'T snap the elder wand, but instead goes back inside the castle, into the headmasters office, and chats with Dumbledore's painting and restores his own wand. Also Fred is killed by a random death eater and is avenged by Percy Weasley. Oh yeah, Percy was in The Deathly Hallows book. I wish they would've shot these scenes!
What they did with Pettigrew in DHpt1 is, IMO, the worst and most frustrating decision of the whole series. That scene in the books was a great payoff for the character and would have been intense, shocking and satisfying on-screen. I can understand if they didn't want to show a guy choking himself to death in a "kids movie" (although I believe that by the time we get to Deathly Hallows, it's more "young-adult" than "kids"), but at the very least come up with some other way to achieve the same story point. But no, they just have him get knocked out and then we never see him again. Such a failure of storytelling. This is the guy that betrayed the Potters, killed Cedric, resurrected Voldemort and is just an all round despicable character for whom they had a gift-wrapped opportunity to give a comeuppance... and they actively choose not to do it. Whoever's decision that was deserves to be Avada Kadavra-ed.

Wormtail did not killed himself. The dark Lord designed that silver hand to punish him if he ever got treacherous to him. Read the books properly.

Am I the only one who didn't like the way they cut out nearly the whole Percy Weasley's story line in the movies. You remember in the book how Percy Shielded Fred body after he died and how he grieved for his younger brother just as much if not more than George did. Oh and how he refused to leave Fred's body until it was totally safe.
In the 6th book it's stated that the Ministry's entire supply of Time Turners was destroyed when Harry and his friends were there the previous summer (when Sirius died). My theory on their effectiveness is that they can only take you back a day or two at most anyway. As far as saying "Voldemort," in the book it's stated that there's been a blanket Taboo curse placed on the word that immediately alerts Death Eaters and Voldemort's other followers to the location of the person who said it. The movie should have pointed those two parts from the books out, as it would've plugged up two major plot holes.
***** See, this is how long it's been since I read book 5. I don't remember that whole thing going down. I just remember the Ministry being pulverized by everyone involved. And it's a testament to the kind of person Rowling is that she not only recognized that plot hole, but engineered events in the books specifically to stop that hole from furthering itself later. It shows that she is aware of what goes on in her book universe as well as the fandom, even if it comes a bit late.

Omitting Harry's speech in the Great Hall literally drove me to cursing in the theater.
rowling actually wrote the time turners out of the story in order of the phoenix when the hall of mysteries was trashed.
pettigrew also died in the assault on malfoy manor. it might have been cut from the movie, but he tried sparing harry and his silver hand choked him to death.

I always assumed the doubling curse would just make a fake, that would disappear after some time, and would make stealing the "real" object harder during the actual heist.

Last time I read the books, the Gemini curse multiplies objects. However, the multiplied objects cannot be touched, as they burn peoples skin.

Haha, I know Star Wars Ep. 7 is happening, this was made long before the announcement. I don't think anybody thought it was gonna happen; Lucas still owned the rights to it and he stated he didn't wanna do an Episode 7, so I figured it was never gonna happen. Then he sold the rights to Disney and yeah, now I look like an idiot.

No, they didn't give Lupin & Tonks a death scene. But in a way, it's kind of impactful to learn it by seeing them among the dead.
I think what the screenwriter meant was that Helena Ravenclaw wanted this diadem destroyed, so it can't tempt any more greedy mortals. And the diadem played a role in her own death, so there may be some bitterness there. But a ghost can't destroy an object, so Helena had difficulty trusting a mortal to do it. Then Tom Riddle charmed it out of her.
Peter's ''death'' was back in PT 1 when Dobby stunned him. In the book his hand strangled him but JK thought that would be to violent for a PG 13 movie

Great review. Lol when I was watching this video I thought you latterly hated every part of it but then your conclusion set the record straight. I read the books when I was a kid and I read the seventh book as soon as it was released (around that point we were waiting for the 5th movie) and I loved it. The book answers all your questions but I will just mention one. I am very annoyed that they missed a lot of exposition but with The Deathly Hallows Part 1 they didn't show Wormtail's death. He get's killed off in a cool and dark way but in the movie they cut it out which makes no sense as it is not the darkest thing to ever come to a kids/teenagers movie (kinda).
Harry broke the elder wand BECAUSE it could solve a lot of problems. I'm gonna use the quote "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" to prove my point. The elder wand was so unbelievably powerful that, as we saw in the tale of the 3 brothers, it would have eventually corrupted either Harry or someone else. Harry knew this, and so threw the wand away. It was rather wise of him to actually.
and yet we didn't see how powerfull it can be...

Hey suspect! I recently heard something pretty clever between this film and the tale of the three brothers from part 1 that's you might find interesting. The first brother died and he had the elder wand which made him all powerful, and Voldemort died with the elder wand while he was trying to gain unlimited power. (Insert palpatine here) the second brother tried to bring his loved one back from the dead and died, and Snape was in love with Lily Potter wand died. The third brother had the invisibility cloak and willingly went with death, and Harry had the invisibility cloak and he willingly let Voldemort kill his ass.
- Claims Harry Potter 9 will never happen.
- Backs up claim by claiming Star Wars 7 will never happen
- Star Wars 7 confirmed soooo.... I guess that means...

All joking aside, I think a prequel would be better than a sequel. See the original Order taking on Voldemort... events such as:
- Hogwarts years of James, Snape and others
- Wormtails betrayal
- The Longbottoms torture
- James vs Voldemort
- Snapes redemption begins
Personally, I think it would make a good movie.. or even just a book, since the movies don't seem to give the books justice... too much was left out of these films like:
- Peeves
- More flashbacks showing Tom Riddles family (I mean, that ring just APPEARS in the movies)
- The fuck happened to Teddy Lupin?
- Why change what Harry decided to do with the Elder wand?!
- Percy going from Minister bitch back to family man
- The fact that the Peverell brothers.are ancestors of Harry and Voldemort
- Neville could have been the Chosen One
- Hermione starting a campaign for the house elves of the castle (.. did they even mention in the movies there are house elves working in the kitchens?)

Sorry for the long ass comment, I guess just growing up with the books I feel as if the movies didn't do them justice. Still good films, just not as good if you know the story

Filming the review takes 2 hours at most, editing takes anywhere from 2-5 days. What takes the longest is writing. This can take weeks if not months to do.
All time turners had been destroyed in Harry Potter part 5. It is not mentioned in the movies, but in the book............I think

I can see why Emma Watson thought it was incest. The way it comes across to me is if your around someone so often that they sort of feel like family then kissing them that way would feel like incest. I'm curious to see what other theories you guys think of it.

I haven't watched Harry Potter movies for a long time and did they seriously put ALL Slytherin students in the dungeon? WTF? They do realize that these students have nothing to do with Voldermort. Right? They aren't ALL Draco Malfoy who would betray others.*facepalm*
I believe that in the book, the Slytherins, along with those too young to fight, were led down into the dungeons in order to take them away from the schoolgrounds and into safety. The movie version makes it all seem sinister.
I lost my slag when Neville turned around to reveal Harry and the music from Chamber of Secrets played in the background. We didn't hear that part of the theme since Prisoner of Azkaban. All the other times it was just the first 30 notes of Hedwig's Theme.

ok, in a later book, (5 I think, or 7) it was mentioned that the ministry ROUNDED UP and DESTROYED all time turners. JK Rowling got rid of it so arguments like "just use the time turner" cant be used. her mistake was to make it a throwaway line so the movies and general audience didn't remember it.

I want a movie where an army comes into the wizard world armed with full Kevlar armour and MG3 LMG's and literally take care of the whole death eater problem in under an hour. Guns are faster and better than wands.

I can't get over the fact that the last two movies completely paved over Harry's stance on killing. In the books, he's completely against taking action that could in any way realistically result in someone dying. But in Part 1 he goes "if we kill him they'll know we were here" despite the fact that they can teleport anywhere in the country immediately afterward. His argument should have been "if we kill him we're no better" and in Part 2 he and Hermione kill about 20 people between the two of them by letting a dragon loose, stunning someone mid-flight who runs into a stone pillar and falls down four flights of stone stairs, shooting someone off a bridge into a canyon, and firing the magical equivalent of a rocket launcher at a snake (that he already knows is immune to that spell) and it goes flying into a crowd of people
In the 5th book, Order of the Phoenix, It explains that when in the department of mysteries a battle began and in one of the rooms a spell hits all time turners in the world (Including the one from the 3rd film) and destroys them.
Snape couldn't fake dumbledore's death as he was already dying. In his attempts to destroy the ring horcrux a poison began spreading through his body giving him a certain time left to live.

For the record, McGonagall didn't take out the Carrows. Snape (probably intentionally) deflected some of McGonagall's curses at them before flying away.
Also, the wand doesn't now belong to the snake for the same reason it didn't belong to Snape after he killed Dumbledore.

15:35 Not entirely sure if someone's already mentioned this somewhere but there actually is a potion that can give that effect; it's called draught of living dead, the potion we see them brew in half blood Prince actually, and its a powerful sleeping draft that puts the drinker into a deathlike slumber.
And anyone who read the books enough (I've lost track how many times I've read the series. Somewhere in the 2 - 3 hundred's maybe) would know that crabbes replacment was Blaise Zabini, first introduced in the Philosopher's Stone (although he was only mentioned as last to be sorted) and later returned as a member of the "Slug Club" in the Half-Blood Prince.

The thing about Voldemort's name is that he jinxed(I believe) it. Voldemort will be alerted to anyone's current whereabouts the instance they utter the name. Which is why mostly everyone refer to him as "You know who".
