A perfect game in baseball is when the pitcher completes the full nine innings without an opposing batter ever reaching any base - no hits, no walks. In baseball, hitting the ball only counts if you make it on base, mind you, so it doesn't mean literally no contact between the bat and ball. Catching a fly ball or getting the ball to first base before the batter reaches it doesn't count as a hit.

17:20 I was hoping he'd realize here that it wasn't an artistic mistake when Lord Reiss' titan seemed to get smaller and smaller as it approached the walls. It wasn't that or a trick of perspective. He was billowing so much Steam that was coming from his own body's mass.

The part about war and how most people who become soldiers don't truly understand what war is until they see it, that's actually something I've been thinking about a lot.
I am an aspiering writer, and this exact thing is a strong theme in the story I'm currently putting together.
Specifically, the question "how do you ask someone to risk their life if they don't know what it means to die"?

Carthage is what its called in english. Car-thage.
Armin is a big picture guy. Jean is a fantastic in the moment guy. Armin will come up with some crazy out the box idea, but Jean is absolutely fantastic at knowing the right call to make at the right time, even if its a hard one. Like way back in Trost, when he made the call to use the distraction of a bunch of cadets getting killed to escape.
The difference between Levi and Floch (the soldier thats breaking down)... well theres alot but in this context. Levi is willing to die protecting Eren and Erwin. That is a death that has meaning. Floch sees a situation that is hopeless. He sees only a complete and utter defeat. Every single one of them will die. It's not just about once you there, you realise you might die. Its that his death, in his eyes would be meaningless. It wasn't a death in a glorious charge that lead his army to victory. Its not being fatally wounded, but battling on, slaying the enemy commander before finally succuming to your wound. Its a complete and utter, total defeat. He doesn't see that as a noble, honorable death with meaning. He sees that as utterly pointless, as his death means nothing, it achieves nothing. He dies and so does everyone else, and they lose.
The Erwin, and his dream, and his drive. As Kenny said... "Everyone has to be drunk on something." Erwin has said himself, whilst maybe he has done some good, his actions have always been selfish in motivation (just like everyone else). His goal was always to discover the truth, regardless of if that was good for humanity. To do that, he sacrificed hundred, maybe thousands of lives. In those last moments, he finally broke free of those shackles, that obsession with the truth, to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of humanity.
Erwin speech is one of the greatest speeches in anime. I've listened to it so many times.

    For the Data:
This Episode is right now 1 of 6 Episodes in IMDB's Top 20TV-Episodes of all time. It rows in after a breaking bad episode.
Attack on Titan is the show with the best rating of all TV shows(per episode). From 2019-2021 Attack on Titan held 12Episodes in the Top20 best TV Episodes of all time. First place was: "Hero" ; second "perfect game(the one you watxh rn)" and the fourth always belonged to "midnight sun". Thats why it was called the "Holy Trinity"...until Season 4 came :D.
It's not good to view anime through ratings, but it's an immense worldrecord that aot broke and delivered Anime even more into Western mainstream media. Im very happy, that Animefans worldwide rewarded this show on such a big scale.

I like watching reactions to AoT because even though I've seen it perhaps a dozen times, you often find a new insight that one might have missed or didn't develop as much. One of the things that attracted me to your reactions is wondering what the perspective of a German would be of a show like this, so all the tangents are appreciated.

Poor Levi. All he wants is for his comrades to live, and he essentially always sends them to their deaths to create a chance to win, no matter how talented he is.
This is a good, proper way for Erwin to go out though. He spent his career gambling and throwing away the lives of people who served with and under him, and even if it was ultimately to the benefit of the people in the walls, it was all for a selfish reason. At least here he gets to lay down his life alongside his comrades, instead of using them. He gets to atone by giving up his dream of knowledge for the dream of his people.
Only real solace in losing him here is that he doesn't have to see what comes next. He gets to die believing he's fighting for humanity's freedom like all the other scouts before him.

There's so much to talk about in this episode that I don't even know where to start, so instead can we just like appreciate for a moment how good of a duo Armin and Jean is? When something unexpected happens, Armin freezes up and starts panicking while Jean is able to immediately realize the most logical decision to make in the moment and can act quickly. However, Jean can't think of a grand plan, an actual long-term solution to the problem while Armin can, he just needs time to observe and calm down a bit, which Jean is able to give him. They work so well together as a team, they kinda complete each other as leaders.

The conversation between Levi and Erwin hit even harder if you take into account what Erwin said to Levi in No Regrets comes right back around to him.
    Don't you'll regret it.
Memories of regret will only dull your future decisions. And then you'll begin to let others make your choices for you. All that's left for you then is to die.
Nobody can foretell the outcome. Each decision you make holds meaning only by affecting your next decision.
In 3x14 you saw Erwin beginning to regret his decisions and now all that was left for him to do was to let Levi make the decisions for him and die.

Somewhere at 23:00 - I'd like to point out that some countries still have mandatory military service (Russia, China, South Korea, Cyprus, Greece and many more) and that people are forced to become soldiers, and it can completely break a person - if he's not a soldier in the soul, but is still forced to become one. Not mentioning, that usually such soldier are basically slaves - free laborers (physical workers), and can be beaten / bullied in any other way - and it's "normal" in the army.
Another thing for such difference is - if in the US soldiers are respected and loved(?), in countries where it's mandatory service, no one respects and cares about soldiers, it's more like people feel pity for them, and sometimes consider them stupid because they couldn't evade it.

This episode contains what I think is one of the most poignant examples of the power of honor and shame in any story.
Erwin, as we've observed, is a slave to finding out the truth. He has led the Survey Corps in order to free humanity from the titans, but in truth, it has always been his personal desire to know the truth that has been his greater motivator. He is, ultimately, in it for himself, but up until now his selfish and non-selfish motives have always been aligned.
But then this moments arrives where he is presented with a real choice. It is one or the other. Pursue his own dream or die for the sake of others.
I believe of the two, Erwin's selfish desire is greater, but he doesn't follow it here. Why? Because there is something else more powerful than either - his sense of shame. Surrounded by the memories of all the people who have sacrificed themselves, he CANNOT make the selfish decision here and look them in the eye, even in just his memory of them. Those bonds, those relationships, that shared sense of moral vision is so powerful that it moves a selfish man into making one of the most heroic and selfless decisions I've ever witnessed.
Western culture sometimes categorizes shame as a purely negative thing, but I've heard it said before in China something like "If a person has no sense of shame, they are beyond moral reach and feared even by the devil." The scene is the great corollary to me to that. A person with a proper sense of shame allows their community to propel them toward the righteous thing in spite of their own temptation otherwise.
    My favorite scene is S3.

When Berthold is kicking Eren the hight difference is totally off - Eren's titan is 15 meters high, Berthold's 60. So it should be a ratio of 1 to 4, not 1 to 10 as depicted. I wonder why they changed it for this shot, normally they keep good track of stuff like this.

Actually they're pretty inconsistent when it comes to showing scale. When we see them face off against 3 or 4 meter class titans those should only be like twice their height, yet they're shown as much bigger. And the walls often look much higher than 50 meters when compared to a 4 story building in the same shot.
