Just to clear about the colors of the Eldians' armbands:
--- brown armband -- a regular Eldian civilian in Marley
--- grey armband -- a regular Eldian soldier in Marleyan army
--- yellow armband --- a warrior candidate
--- red armband --- a warrior or a member of his/her immediate family, i.e. so-called "honorary Marleyan" _(a term already used in the episode 3x20)_
Ahhhh, I am color blind, I alsways wondered why so many non warriors had red armbands... :D
Funny thing, in the French subs Zeke is indeed called Sieg. And I think it was the original intention with his name in Japanese too. Because the first thing Grisha says when he is born is: "this child will lead us to victory".
Also, the opening of season 2, Shinzō o Sasageyo, contains the word 勝利 meaning victory but with the pronunciation changed to ジーク/jīku. This is both a transliteration of the German word Sieg and also exactly how Zeke's name is spelled in Japanese.
Ymir's dead. You might have missed it, but we see it at the end of season 3, when Historia touches the letter from Ymir (that they got from Reiner). There are flashes from various scenes, including one where we see Ymir bounded by chains, about to get eaten. She knew that was gonna happen when she chose to come back with Reiner and Bertholdt.
You said that the mid east alliance is a splinter of Marley because they also hate Eldians, but I think you didn't really understand the measure of the eldian empire. In their world, there were many cultures and countries like in our world, and the eldian empire came with their titans and took control over all of them. The whole world hates eldians, not just marley, marley is just the one country that still is in control of Titans now and dominates the world because of it.

Not the *whole* world, to be clear. There is the country of Hizuru which used to have a relationship with the Eldian King, and now has an new relationship with the island.
Also I don't think the Eldian empire took over ALL cultures and countries.
What we know is that Eldia ruled the continent which contains Marley, and oppressed other races on that continent, at the least.
In the present most countries do hate Eldians even more than Marleyans do, mainly because they are less familiar with and thus more fearful of Eldians.

7:42 the majority of Marleyan names are actually of Italian origin, because Eldians rappresent our Germans/Germanic People and Marleyans our Italian/Romans
In fact Marley is pronounced Mare, just like the Italian word for "Sea"
I'm frustrated that I didn't get to enjoy this episode properly the first time. I was so eager to see our crew that I didn't care what was happening here. It's so epic, especially with the amazing soundtrack!

I think the new studio and art style for this season is so perfect. WIT did s1-3 really well with the thick lineart and more vibrant colors, but MAPPA's more realistic style and muted colors go super well with this new brutal tone. Not that it wasn't brutal until now, but fighting against titans vs fighting in a war between humans is very different imo. And I think they illustrate the absolute horror of war so well in this episode, it always punches me right in the gut no matter how many times I rewatch. S4 is so emotionally draining but it's soooo good!

I understand that reactors have to express their opinions at specific points. But you shouldn't pause it so much. It takes away the momentum and hype of certain scenes. It takes away part of your experience and also ours.
Eg- When the air bombardment starts, never pause it. The background score, the action, the Titan transformations everything is starting at that point. Just let it flow.
Pausing it constantly just kills the mood.
Make some notes and you can talk as much after the episode.
No, this is the way I do things. I am sure others will have better reactions you will enjoy more. If I do not pause, I do not get immersed and don't get to know the characters and themes and it is no fun. =)

I am unsure, but I pronounce all words like I would in German and that would be its pronounciation. But I do also admit that pronouncing the names is really murky and unclear :D

This is why the AoT fandom sucks. The first ever mention of the name "Jaw Titan" is in this episode. But a lot of AoT watchers just casually throw that name away in earlier episodes.
You're supposed to just slowly figure out yourself that it is indeed Ymir's titan with how it moves, and if you don't, it's confirmed in the next episode. (I know he's watched later eps).
Name dropping that earlier kinda removes the "gears in your head turning, powering a lightbulb moment", but a lot of people forget where something is first named in this series and those could even be important plot devices.
To a lesser degree, same with mentioning Floch's name before the show does. You're supposed to assume he's just one of the disposable soldiers early on, and that's the point of his character. Naming him early kinda clues you in that he will survive a bit longer.
Yeah, with Ymir it was okay-ish as I think would not have connected that ever (finished part 1 and it did not come up again really), but the floch thing was a bit unfortunate, though it was not as bad as I actually assumed more than 9 would survive Shiganshina (silly me) :D
LMAO @ "German watches AOT" oh man. Well at least you wont have the terrible take aways a lot of people had. The fascist undertones went over so many peoples heads, and some others actually want that. Also remember to watch the cutscenes when you get to the final, final episode of the series. The anime improved a LOT on the manga's ending and Hajime Isayama said the anime is the extension of the manga it's official.
Edit: Instead of nuking titans it would be more efficient to have them in a single area, like eldia and firebomb raid them. Like the US did to tokyo, you firebomb circles around groups of titans then the heat will engulf into the middle and assure absolutely destruction of everything. Horrific fact: We killed more people with firebomb raids in Japan than we did nuking them twice.
Is fire enough to kill atiatn though? I actually am unsure. Perhaps acid? :D The fcist undertones are really on the nose, so I would not have thought people did not get them :D
@@storieswithstyle I watched a few reactors on youtube and yeah it went over some peoples heads. And the tokyo firebomb raids reached up to 2,000 degrees F, so uh, 1000 C. So I guess it's like thinking of throwing a Titan into an incinerator but you can kill a bunch of them at the same time. So I'd say yeah, it's not like you'd just be hitting a titan with a flame thrower. They'd probably start melting or whatever happens to organic stuff at that temp.
I mean that should work, if the nape melts they die :D
