    I have been to see these timber houses, and they are built for low income Thai workers, the timber is not kiln and dried, so shrinkage and swelling will occur, meaning after a while doors and windows will not close. And you won't need a sauna as the whole house is one.

      Sir, what will a wooden house cost me like the one I see in the Isaan series"Thai Head" or "DD"? I also wish there should be a field, kitchen garden, a few mango trees and a pond to breed fish attached to the house.

    If you don't mind the style limitations, ppl are building homes from used shipping containers here in the US, at $5000 per container. Most buy several and weld them together.
    I'm sure they are also plentiful in Thailand and MUCH cheaper!
    It's still possible to get a long-term leasing option from a land owner, that could even be resold.

    Never buy a house or condo that's yet been built...There's a good chance that it may never happen, even if you paid money! If you can't unlock a door, open a window or turn on the lights.....Keep clear!

      Jerry, you sound like you have traveled extensively. But you don't seem to know Thailand. Most Asian countries in this areas are the same. Insurance policies quite often are not worth the paper they are printed on, because they will never pay a claim. you are not allowed to buy ground floor properties in your name. There are work arounds for this, but also bear in mind, Thailand has a lot of scammers. pay attention to people who sound like they know, like captain Craig above. One of the best things about Asia, is they are not like the rule infested pits, we grew up in western countries. But no where is perfect, this means in a lot of ways, you are not protected in the same way. Before shelling out any money, make sure you know all the dangers. For example, even in western countries, a Thai has to be careful not to violate foreign ownership laws. But in most western countries, the purchase is likely to be rejected and his money refunded. In Asia, someone is likely to just keep it.

    I have inspected many of these houses, the quality varies greatly, some are quiet well built , but definitely not to older European standards , but NO chipboard and polystyrene materials, like modern western homes nowadays.
    some are very poorly built . most are good value for money The smallest and cheapest home you can build in Australia now will cost you $160K $180K PLUS fees on your own land !!! Its your choice. cheers

    What good it that if you can’t buy land . I have seen this videos and only locals can buy land . If your not born in Thailand you have to rent land to put this home on . And if the landlord don’t want to renew the land lease you have to move it somewhere else if you can find land to rent .

    • @JerryBrownTravels
      @JerryBrownTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes viewers Pablo is 100% correct. Maybe you have a girlfriend and their family has land that you could put it on or maybe do you have a very good friend that you can trust and you put it on their land. Everything is a gamble at some point maybe you feel comfortable taking the risk or maybe you wouldn't.
      These homes are very small it probably wouldn't take much to move them if you had to.
      Pablo are you a subscriber? Here's a video you haven't seen yet.

    Leasing a piece of land for 30 years is possible BUT any renewal is SUBJECT to the approval of the Thai Government that is unpredictable, to say the least. Two years ago the Thai Government openly encouraged the silent Thai partners of joint ventures in Thai ( all bussiness including owning of properties in Thai must be held at least 51% by local Thai) to report to the Authority of the such situations and the reporting silent Thai partners can get 30% of the properties or bussiness confiscated by the Thai Government due to the fact that all these bussiness or properties are "Sham" bussiness deals.??

    Last time I looked, Americans were not allowed to purchase a home in Thailand. They can purchase a condo-if it is owned by 51% Thai. I am not into apartments, so I would have needed to rent a house. Also for a long term visa, it was required to deposit $24,000 Baht in a Thai Bank, and the condo did not count towards this (unlike the Philippines, which was $50,000, but allowed the condo to count in the investment-again no home ownership in the Phil either. People I have spoken to say Thailand is much nicer.

    8000 $ is quite cheap if it's a two bedroom hall kitchen flat in the suburbs of Bangkok or Chiang Mai. It's 8580000 $ in the city centre of Mumbai. Any way Mumbai is the most expensive city in the world when it comes to business properties. The prices simply double.

    Why would you want to tie up 200,000 US to 'buy' when you can rent for 300-500 or less? Most retirees won't live long enough for a 30 year lease. Renting is the only sane option.

    I saw the Mexico you tube but the security is a problem there besides medical care for senior people. On the other hand if you don't do any bussiness in Thai, only spending money, then Thai appears able to provide reasonably good services provided there will not be unattainable inflation otherwise your retirement fund will be wiped out sooner than your life span.

      We have more experience with Mexico then with Thailand. We have visited hospitals in Bangkok and also visiting hospitals in Guadalajara Mexico and have found them to be comparable and about on the same level of care.
      You talked about inflation in Thailand and I have no experience with that.
      We have our investments in a brokerage account that does all of our investments through no load mutual funds.
      A formula that can be used if you times or multiply your yearly income times 20 this will give you how much money you will need to save for your retirement.
      And when you have that total amount you only withdraw 4% per year and keep the balance of money actively invested and no load mutual funds.
      I think between Southeast Asia or central America it's all a preference or you feel the most comfortable.

    The only "property" a foreigner can buy is condominium ( provided that only less than 50 % of which is sole to foreigner)which is subjected to monthly charges of maintenance and service fee that will only increase year by year and never come to an end as long as you are using it. This monthly charge increases at such a rate that you will find yourself is in fact continue to pay increasing rent for ever??
    While you can still "own" a flat in a condominium which, when you purchased , are owned by more than 50% by local, there is nothing in law for the Thai owners to sell their "shares" of flat to unsuspecting foreigners. In that case, once the % owned by local Thai becomes less 50, ALL the foreigners who "own" the shares of this condominium become " illegal by the Thai law??? There is nothing a foreigner can do about this situations. Their legal titles all become invalid overnight.

      Considering the cost of ownership rather than the risks of ownership, I like the idea of just renting someone else's property for 3 or more months at a time. Cost of ownership include rising fees for "corporate body" maintenance. The management are responsible for negotiating deals for insurance, power, water etc., so there's no incentive to keep costs down. And the costs will go up.
      Just find something nice for 3 months and rent it. If you don't like it or want to have a different experience, then simply rent a different one somewhere else next time. Simple. No risk and you still get some Thailand in your otherwise sad life. Hope that helps,

      +drugdrwhitley September is an excellent time typically the rates for the hotels are half price. How do get around the fact that you can not buy land in Thailand

  • @UhYeahWhateverDude
    @UhYeahWhateverDude 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    For everyone in the comments stating you cannot own a home in Thailand as a foreigner, you are wrong. I am writing this from my home, in Central Thailand, which I own 100%.
    I cannot own the LAND it is on - that is the catch. I have a 30-year (10x3) guaranteed lease on the land, with 100% land rights. The lease is registered, and there is no risk of the Thai owner “screwing me and taking my house” before the lease expires (I’m sure I will sell it long before that anyway).
    If people think it’s a bad idea to own, fair enough, but the notion that a foreigner cannot own a home is factually incorrect.

      I've had replies and I've been told you cannot buy property in Thailand has a foreigner but you could rent or lease land to put a Little House on the land.
      I think you could have a real basic blueprint drawn up and take it to a carpenter and they can Easley re-create this house for you and maybe shown the video. The labor there is so cheap you may be able to even get it for a lower price.

      These little houses are made in Thailand. But I don't have their location or any information about them. we were traveling out of Thailand about 20 miles when I came across them on the roadside. We were headed down to the beach they're in Thailand.
      I'm sorry I don't have anymore information. You know you can't own land in Thailand As a foreigner but a person could always rent land to put one of these little houses on.

      The homes or model homes you purchase them and then you move onto your property. In Thailand foreigners cannot on property in their name. He will need to move the home to a piece of land you're renting or maybe a friends property

  • @hckui762
    @hckui762 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    No foreigner can legally buy a piece of property in Thailand. Why you always use the word buy??

    • @JerryBrownTravels
      @JerryBrownTravels  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Why do I use that word buy?
      What I mean is you can pay for the little building. You can purchase the wooden building and then you would have to have to move the building to a piece of land.
      Maybe the land it Is owned by a Thailand citizen and you can put your home on their land and pay them rent for the land but you cannot buy the land only the building.
      Thank you for your comment keep them coming

    Zero insulation. Nothing about these looks up to code. No thanks. My house was $230,000. It blows away every home here. 3 car garage, 3,100 Sq Foot house, back yard, Lanai, 4 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, large kitchen. Thailand isn't as cheap as people make it out to be.

      Jerry Brown travels I'm not bragging or anything of that nature. I'm just saying people think there going to take 50k and go build this mansion in Thailand and it will be up to code and standards as a USA house. Very far from the truth, most Thailand houses are small and aren't built to the same caliber. Outside they look incredible, inside is a whole nother situation. My house is in Florida, will I return to it? I don't know, haven't figured out what I want to do, I currently work overseas as a contractor.

      Hello Jerry I live in Thailand renting is very affordable could be the best and easiest way to live here. After you live here for awhile you learn lots of way to get things done that are impossible. By the way a foreigner can become a Thai citizen most people have never heard of this. If you have some money you can do a lot of thing here yes even own land. Most comments on Thailand is parrot talk people hear something and just repeat it. Remember in Thailand window A says no way and window B says yes no problem same office.
