Building a Brand New House in Thailand for $16,000 USD

  • Update
    -This price listed is for all the materials and labour costs for the 2 labourers.
    -The Homeowner did the bulk of the work himself.
    - the land was already owned and is not included in the price
    - if you are a foreigner building a house in Thailand there is a very good chance it’s going to cost substantially more
    - The total value that the homeowner puts on everything land included with house, labour plus materials is 1.5 million baht or around $65,000 Cdn
    We stop at a friends house to see how their new house build is coming along.
    Even though I demonetized this video I still got a copyright strike for whatever song is playing on the workers radio... my apologies if they run ads.. that is out of my control

    Wow. So lucky. The House I built in Korat wasn't as nice as your's and cost 280,000 Baht.... or about $80,000.
    Yes. You're more lucky than I.
    Well, we have a few new motorbikes, a nice enough house and we're happy for now.

      This isn’t my house.. this was a Thai man and he built a lot of it himself
      Guaranteed if you’re a farang you’re gonna pay more
      check out the latest video on my channel I’m showing a new build in the village total cost of the building 1.3 million baht (not including land)

      Too late. I already built. I probably could have gotten it cheaper. 3 million Baht wasn't bad for two bedroom two bath. I like living surrounded by rice fields.
      Thanks. Good luck.

      It’s always good to have a dream.. gives you something to strive and hope for. it is hard for foreigners to buy land in Thailand most people will lease for 30 years as that’s the only option unless you have a Thai partner. It’s actually a really great law for the Thai people to own their own land ..unlike my country Canada

    Look I’ve lived in Thailand for about 8years now and I work from home I nearly bought a house twice however why build and stay in the one place when you can move around and pay rent and get what you want if your happy to stay in a village or small town go for it.Just in my case I live in Chaing Mai now was in Phuket in Kata before that I was in Bangkok and rent is cheap and not stuck to one area like I said it’s all depends what your looking for and your budget.Also this is not about Thailand but very similar in Indonesia which I lived for 2 years I was renting in Seminyak for a $120 Aust a week I had my own private villa 250square ft I had my own private swimming pool a good size 2 Air Con 1 in my bedroom and 1 in kitchen/ Lounge room.I have to say your money goes a lot further in Indonesia everything is cheaper for instance a pkt of cigarettes is $1.60c in Thailand 1pkt is $5.80 nearly 4x cheaper all food and shopping is cheaper.However I prefer the Thai way of living both are great just depends what your budget is like this house would be $20,000Aus which is still very very cheap but your stuck in one place perhaps if you want to retire it’s a good option but if your younger 25-50year old don’t think staying in one place for many many years is not such a good choice plus Thailand has very difficult laws for westerners to buy house and land there’s a hell of a lot of hoops you must have biggest one a Thai wife love to hear back from a few people on my thoughts I’m just saying my experience.

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic
      @GlenRobertsonMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent comment. I agree with what you said. Unless you’ve got the Thai wife and children holding you in place anyone under 65 should keep their options open plus it’s pretty hard to own a house here without a Thai spouse because foreigners can’t own the land

    • @dandyman251
      @dandyman251 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I had 4 contractors bid for it .they where all in 60k to 70k. My wife's brother in law in udon his friend, so now we are 5th house to be built. That is a mad price, I could buy one and use it as a holiday home/ rental. The hoops one has to go through if your not Thai for me is not worth the effort. Rentals are cheap as chips and you have the benefit of changing locations whenever you want. Politics in Thailand, they can change the rules as they please and even kick you out of the country. It is not stable enough for me to invest a lump of money in property. I wish you continued success. M

      This is our neighbour he did all the work himself with the help of a couple other people he sourced secondhand materials whenever possible this is not a typical price for a foreigner to build a house in Thailand this was built on land he already owned so that is not included
      the price is accurate to what he paid to build it himself

    How can you buy a house in Thailand as a foreigner? I thought they cannot buy a house but can rent it instead

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic
      @GlenRobertsonMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Foreigners cannot own land in Thailand. Most times the foreigner will end up building the house on land his girlfriend or wife owns but that’s risky. Foreigners are allowed to own condos
      the house in this video was built by a Thai man on land he already owned

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic
      @GlenRobertsonMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind this price does not include the land this is a Thai man who built his own house on land he owns. Foreigners cannot own land though you can lease land and build a house on it. I strongly recommend renting to every foreigner who comes to Thailand.
      If I give you any advice let it be this
      ‘ treat Thailand like a giant casino and only bring what you are prepared to lose’

    Hey I'd buy it .... but as a foreigner, I can't own the land it's on. So, I could only rent it. How much per month?

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic
      @GlenRobertsonMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen houses like this over here rent for 5000 baht a month

      @@GlenRobertsonMusic I thought it would be something like that. Looking at CR real estate sites it looks like you can rent a nice 2 bedroom home for 5000 to 10000 baht. Many of them furnished too, and in nice locations.

      This house is in the north of Thailand I’m not the builder it was built by a friend of ours in the village he built it himself which is why the price is so inexpensive

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic

      Yes. That also didn’t include appliances and furnishings

      Glen , still quite cheap even by Chiang Rai village prices, I can’t remember how much our place cost but we already owned the land which is the biggest cost when building out here

    • @GlenRobertsonMusic

      The owner is doing a lot of the labour himself I think that saves a lot of money

    You need at least $100000 to buy a container house in the US.😭😭 That 's the reason why the US dislikes peace in other countries.They want you to come in the US to work like a horse for the rich people and,you can actually get nothing good for yourself.
