You used to room with my buddy Don Brusock. I worked under his nursing license and as a young guitarist he gave me a cassette tape from one of your live shows in Philadelphia. Still following you Jimmy B.
Jimmy you are a wonderful player and instructor . You explain things so people understand it. And it sound fantastic. Great teacher with none of the bs that most try to confuse players with. I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson.
Jimmy!!! Im an old boy from Louisiana, down with the meanest Alligators... I Really like your music my friend... Keep up the Great Work.......... Thankx
To my ears, just playing the C scale with a nice melody with no outside notes, it swings nicely just doing that. I like the comment about it's okay to hold onto a note and the flip-side comment about not liking the outside line that was played because it was too busy sounding. Flashy fast lines are impressive for sure, but give me a simple nice melody that swings and I'm digging it.
What you played is a lost art. Your generation, and older could really play. Beautiful melodic lines that compliment the song.... it's a lost art. Too much left brain theory has everyone just going outside after 4 measures playing a bunch of bs. It's harder to keep creating melodic statements where every note means something....with the feel like you just did!!!! Could listen to you all day!
I just rediscovered you and just love these lessons thanks. I assumed that it would all be over my head but you have a few that are for more entry level people. Thanks!
Now this is great stuff. The tidbits about your approach are gold... Granted, most of it is "use your ear" but there's something really cool about seeing you talk through it
Thank Maestro . It’s been a while but I always learn something from your videos. Favorite quote “ you can hang onto a note. You don’t have to fill it up.
Jimmy that was a great lesson! It was amazing how good a major scale sounded over the F9,Em7,Eb9,Dm7 etc. How musical ideas can carry through the chords.
Great video and lesson. Thanks! Up till now I thought that Parker lick was a Pat Martino one. He plays it in the El Hombre album, on Just Friends I think.
Love you Jimmy. Are you thinking of target notes when your landing, or just playing it by ear? I find when randomly playing diatonic I'll land on a wrong note.
jimmy, as a brazilian trying to get a little bit of the jazz language, i feel like your videos make it so much more understandable and truly beautiful. many of ''instagram jazz'' guitar players are constantly choosing fast licks instead of melodies. thanks for your work!
Nice exercise. I like when you said something wasn't good because you didn't like the sound, not because of the particular extensions that were used. Sound first, theory later (you've been saying that a long time). Thanks!
Thanks for making life simple. Does this technique work for 1 6 2 5 or for rhythm changes on the a section? I always had trouble with soloing over rhythm changes because I 'm thinking about the scales that go over each chord. Any thoughts on how to simplify soloing over rhythm changes.
Guitar 6 School of Music I’ve been influenced by the Charlie Christian style of playing...musicians used to treat the A section as one big I chord, and embellishing the basic scale with chord tones or chromatics as the ear dictates...try it!
I watched the interview you recently did, where you said all the instruments can't be on the same part of the beat. Man, that is so right. Every classical i listen to has the low strings - (bass, cello); lagging the violins and violas. It's like a physical law. It's an immutable law of music. The non rushing law.
This was an amazing lesson! And I see that the Tin Ear Troll still trolls real talent on TH-cam to help increase the size of his _________ (fill in the blank).

Thanks! I've been trying to work this for years. I love the flat 9, flat 5 incorporated in at times.

I teach all day at a local music store and THEN I come home at night and learn from the Master! Thanks Jimmy.
Astonishing playing! You gave me many things to think about in this lesson! Thank you. Greetings from Germany!
I learn more listening to 8:51 of Jimmy Bruno than just about anything else I can think of.
I leave a comment on all of your videos because I hear it's good for your algorithm or something. I just do it because I love you. 😉
These videos are priceless.
What magnificent playing and a great sounding instrument cheers jimmy
This is one of my favorite lessons :)

Thanks Jimmy..... Awesome advice, and always love your playing and great sense of humor.

I saw somewhere that getting the min to Maj sound is most important over changes

So good, could listen to this noodling around all day...thanks much Jimmy!
Great ear for melody..... Excellent no nonsense playing....I'm a rock player....But I love good jazz lines
Thank Maestro . It’s been a while but I always learn something from your videos.

Great stuff Jimmy Bruno!
Thanks!Gary from Newfoundland
2:57.. it's that lick.. you make that axe sound great ..
Thanks for doing this Jimmy.. !!
I really enjoy your sources. Made easy for your pupils. You swing very well with that laid back Miles approach. Very soulful.
the lick at 7:01 is so cool - cheers JB
Excellent as always. Philadelphia has produced great jazz guitar players going all the way back to Eddie Lang.
Great stuff to mess around with. Fantastic guitar. I'm going to save this one to my "favorites". Peace, "Salem" Steve
Nice video Jimmy and nice guitar
Hi Jim! This has got to be one of the most simplest lessons ever. Thanks.
Thank you, Jimmy. Great hearing you!
So great, is this why Miles on a tune like Solar just gets me more than hearing someone more modern take it 'out' so quickly?
06:12 oh Jimmy you got me right there!
great lesson Jimmy ..
0:00 Cool. Major scale and the use of outside notes, but not too many.
8:00
The Sadowsky sounds great. You make everything swing, thanks Jimmy! I dig the Coltrane line at 7:14.

“Why is it too many? Cause I didn’t
Ike it!” Brilliant.
Great video and lesson. Thanks! Up till now I thought that Parker lick was a Pat Martino one. He plays it in the El Hombre album, on Just Friends I think.
El Hombre....!
It's a wonderful Sunday. Serious music lesson from Jimmy.
On the inside (first) example sounds like Grant Green.
You remind me a bit of my old Teacher in Cleveland,
You add the best Jimmy
Love you Jimmy. Are you thinking of target notes when your landing, or just playing it by ear? I find when randomly playing diatonic I'll land on a wrong note.
you posted this nearly a year ago..and I don't know how I missed it.
Thank you, you make me feel kind of re-born musically speaking, my fingers know where they have to go to play the notes in my head, thank you again
Jimmy can I share some of my playing with you on this page?
Awesome Jimmy!

0:33 The Lick!
Marvellous, that's how i learned to play music, with the major scale :)
you are very smart at scales ,good man
Nice exercise. I like when you said something wasn't good because you didn't like the sound, not because of the particular extensions that were used. Sound first, theory later (you've been saying that a long time). Thanks!
May God bless Herb !

Bruno como faço para melhorar a linguagem no Jazz?

That's right?
Hi Bruno, I already know a lot of theory, I even have video playing, but I think I need to improve on jazz.

Hello, Jimmy.
Any chance you could share the iRealbook file for this progression?
Thanks
I real book or I real pro.
Is it free?
Thanks for this
Jim, if you ever need to let your musical 'hair' knowledge down: Vivaldi.
Man, these classicals are, .... WOW!
Love that app
Jimmy
Damn that was nice

香烟爵士
Sounds like high school jazz.
Like one lesbian said to the other, "You the man!"
Thanks Jimmy.
