@@garytucker3563 It's funny too. I always respected Idom, but I was never a huge fan. I don't even like Street Fighter V as much as some other Street Fighter games. Nonetheless... I have never gotten so worked up over a street fighter run in my life. Idom's a legend now. Much respect to that man 🙏
The crazy thing is that Idom had never beaten Daigo before Evo. That's always one of the most amazing things in fighting games for me--a player finally overcoming someone who they have ALWAYS lost to in the past.
Not to downplay Idom but Daigo wasnt even training for Evo and went last minute due to hitbox sponsorship. They had a hype set but im curious how it goes with if Daigo was training for Evo
The extra crazy thing is that all it took was 1 piece of advice from Punk. In Idom's analysis video about this run, he talks about how he asked Punk what to do against Daigo and Punk said Daigo a really stubborn player. So, Idom was able to identify that Daigo would always throw a Sonic Boom after blocking Laura's cr. MK and he was able to get some major punishes off of it.
I'm glad ppl can recognize Knuckledu still, man has been around since before 2010. Was just a literal child then, 13 when I first saw him bodying pro players. I remember how hype he was, how hype it was. No one could believe a kid that young was that talented. I've seen lots of kids be good at SF, end up good enough to play against the pros, but they all always fizzled out and never got past mid level, or they just stopped to pursue other things but Knuckledu has an accolade hardly anyone can claim, a true child prodigy, he never fizzled out he only got better and better. He won the first ever SF5 Capcom Cup during a time the game had tons of cheap and broken stuff to deal with and tons of goats competing. Things have gone sideways for him more than once, and unfortunately as a result he hasn't been able to keep up with the game and the tourney circuit. But seeing him back, brings a lot of joy. And I'm glad SFL gave him a chance despite him having not been active much as of the past few yrs. Kid is seriously slept on right now despite all the praise and recognition he gets for his past. Idom is my favorite player and imo the best player SF5 NA player for almost the entirety of its run. And in terms of just SF in general since 4, one of the only few NA players to reach the level of Japan and the rest of Asia. And Punk, well he's good, its hard to give him credit because of his attitude and mentality outside of the game, hes definitely up there but imo no Idom. His biggest problem is that he gets in his own way, which is another reason I find it hard to recognize him as I feel a big part of a being a goat player is the ability to assess your own abilities and faults, while also being able to recognize the talent of others, which with him underestimating ppl has bit him in the butt more than once. I'm always rooting tho for him to get past the chip he has and realize his full potential.
Its terrifying to think of what Nuckledu's results spread wouldve looked like if he didnt take the iatus he did. Man has been back for a handful of months and he's already looking like he never left
Idom is probably the most impressive US SF player in years, that gauntlet losers boss run in 2022 he had to go through was no joke. Most players wouldn't have beaten all of them like that, playing there absolute hardest in losers! Kawano or Idom could have won EVO, Kawano just won the round that mattered unfortunately. Both amazing players none the less! 🙌
I don't play fighting games, but I was glued to my screen throughout this. WOW, how friggin amazing are these stories of pro players going up against seemingly insurmountable odds and showing out.
This run was beautiful. I was engaged to the tournament like none I've ever witnessed. Magical. If IDom would have won, that would have easily been top 3 Evo moments of all time. Tears came from my eyes when he came up short.
This man the epitome of humility. He was so down to earth while being asked to describe his thoughts during his run at this years EVO yet still came out on top. What a geekga chad.
Idom's Evo run was one of the most exciting competitive events I've witnessed period. Inarguably one of the best to ever do it in SFV and mad excited to watch him in Capcom Cup for SFV's send-off
I'm glad to see even through the NA rivalries and trashtalk they had over the years, Its great to see punk and idom are friends behind the scenes and willing to give advices to one another to not only help them with their matches but also increasing NA chances as a whole.
I remember watching this SF EVO 2022 tournament and Idom's run produced some of the most hype and best sets ever to be seen in a top 8. Every match was a boss battle where Idom would come out victorious. And the final in itself was the battle of the two God slayers.
Great video. Appreciate going back to this run and tournament season. IDOM really is a one of a kind talent. He is playing a lower tier character and absolutely unstoppable. Really something to behold .
That 15:15 hurts everytime i see it.. but iDom EVO 2022 run is what made iDom become a legend in the FGC, he was already acknowledged as the best SFV player in the world but that top 8 run was magical and it was alway be known that when SFV ended when every top player in SFV was playing at the top of their ability iDom was the no.1 best player in the world
I waited a day to watch this so I could settle in with good food, a good seat, and get ready to cry my eyes out at another awesome FGC story. Thank you so much theScore!
I watched iDom’s path in the bracket on Max’s stream. It was truly an insane run and he was so close to pulling it off. He instantly made a fan out of me and NA street fighter lives on.
Even though he lost, I believe this to be the best run I've ever seen in tournament. Doing it from losers, against the level competition, just absolutely insane.
It really felt like 2022 was a great year for Esports. I'm sure a lot of players really missed the events that were very muted in 2020 and still kind of muted through 2021. EVO SFV was great, LCK was amazing all of the year, and the LoL Worlds tournament was legendary.
I have so much respect for this guy! iDom will go in history among the greatest of them all right at the very top! Super hype video, EVO 2022 was amazing!
Esports for fighting games is a fire that won't stop burning. Some of the biggest games in the world have come and gone but fighting games is STILL going strong. Keep on fighting everyone.
Idom is indeed a phenomen, prolific SF player of N.A. He fought trough the most strongest Japan players in the world, beat them one after another and lose only to the very, very best among them in the last game, of the last round, in their last possible clash. Which shows, that even if he is not ultimately win that tournament, he was and is on the level of Kawano, they're are equals and it's just happen, that one of them was a little better then other, at that time. What an incredible fighting spirit and skill expression and at the end, event that he made possible. Respect for that experience, Idom.
Bro seriously waited until he run out of V Sauce to move in. I'm still proud of iDom tho it was truly heartbreaking but I bet ol boy and Japan was sweating they ass off

I’ve seen a lot of runs in tournaments and I can say one thing, this IS one of the hardest runs I’ve ever seen Tokido, Diago, and I think I saw him going up against Nobie. Having to deal with those 3 is borderline impossible, I would say that Tokidos losers run where he beat punk in the finals or Rangchu running Evo Japan with Panda both are insane
i was hella tired and had to get up ewarly for work, but as soon as iDom vs Crimson match started heating up, i stayed up for the rest of the event... Dom was a freakin mosnter, hurts me that he was an inch close to beating Kawano, it was literally a coin toss, that 2nd place felt like a first imo.
The start of the last round I was sure Idom would win, it was a strong start, but all of a sudden Kawano switched up his gameplay and started throwing out a lot feints, making Idom whiff, he wasnt even punishing then he would just make him whiff then back up, I think that got in his head cause the last whiff was soooo bad, Kawano was just too good that day
The biggest takeaway for me was how exposed the double-elimination format became from this. In a run-of-the-mill tournament, by all means, use double-elimination. But not for something as big as EVO or Capcom Cup. There's a reason why Japan tends to consider only Topanga to be legit-it's because Topanga uses round robin, a format that ensures you never have a dubious situation like iDom winning 5 matches vs. Kawano's 3, yet still ending up the loser. The only person at EVO to win more rounds against iDom... was Ryan Hart, in a FT2. I think the FGC audience deserves having actual player vs. player skill settled more concretely than that.
