This is a fantastic insight into not only wireless cameras, but some of the things to look for in a security camera. Great work, very well put together and your videos/reviews are the most thorough of any reviews that I watch. I'm definately thinking about a wired camera with more reliability and longer range.
I think an ethernet cable would be the only other thing to help them be most reliable, but then again, a back-up power supply for your internet and camera if you want the most reliability.
But people have budgets and you've gotta compromise with some features. Great work!

Wow!! Great video! Knowing nothing about this subject, I bought a wireless Blink system at Costco for $189.00 (5 cameras). I had NO idea they didn’t record 24/7 and the resolution may not be that great and the detection distance is limited. Things I didn’t even think about! You get what you pay for! You saved me a great deal of time and probable frustration! I’ll be returning the Blink system and buying a much higher-end, wired system! THANK YOU 😅

For the outsde, Ring battery powered cameras will probably be the easiest and most reliable in the wireless category, but be aware that all Ring cameras need to have a constant Wi-fi connection and only record when (if) they detect motion (no wifi=no recording) . If you have an outlet outside, I think Wyze V3 is the best cheap option since you can have motion event recording/notification plus have it constantly record to an SD card. That way if your wifi drops out for any reason, it will still be recording everything. You can even have a Wyze cam record through a window if outside isn't an option (lifehackster has a video on this).
If you are looking for indoor cams, personally I wouldn't trust anything isn't encrypted. Ring has this as an option. So does Eufy but I don't trust their products since they got busted lying about their encryption.
      Hope this helps!

I went with ring stick up cameras few years ago. I have 20 stick up cameras and I still need more lol. $59.99 during sales times is pretty good. 1080p resolution is fine. I recommend getting the wired stick up camera and battery ones mixed. Some spots you might need dependable power. The wired stick up cams record longer and wider motion view. You can buy the power cord but it’s $39.99 for just the cord. That’s why it’s best to get both the wired and battery ones. They cost the same either one. You can view the ring cameras with an Amazon fire stick on your tv as well and talk and hear. Great feature! Doesn’t have to be on your iPad or phone all the time. Btw I wanted to get nest cameras but I found out their battery are internal and can’t be replaced. Once they go out goodbye camera! I liked the nest cameras but that won’t work for me. The other brands like blink or eufu whatever seem generic to me.

I want to record my bird table. I only want a camera with battery and sd card. When I look at the footage of others on youtube their videos they're showing are really choppy as if the camera is recording in a lower frame rate. Is this because they're showing us footage via WiFi when doing their product review? I'm looking at the ie geek zs-gx3s motion 2k camera and the spec says it's 25fps which is fine but when I look at the footage on youtube reviews it looks typically like cctv footage and I want movement to look more natural for filming birds. Am I asking too much from these security cameras or if I record my footage to the camera sd card and view on my labtop will it flow or look more like 25fps or still be choppy? Great video by the way. Your camera looks superb. Very professional sir. Well done. Subscribed!

One more thing that is a problem with Internet-based CCTV, if at the start the CCTV is on and there is no internet connection, then the recording time will reset to the default year (1970). So people will think that if there is no internet there is no recording, even though the recording time only returns to the default year. Battery-based CCTV may still be able to overcome this as long as the battery doesn't completely run out. I hope that Internet-based CCTV such as Smart Cam or IP Cam has a CMOS battery to store time settings.

2:14 - I thought the Eufycam S330 Solar cams recorded 24/7 to the homebase 3. They literally use the term “24/7” in their marketing so would be curious if that is not the case.

    • @LifeHackster

Hi! I would like to ask you something, I whached a lot of your videos but could not found the answer for this.
I want to install a security system at my grampas home, it's a small home, with 2 interior cameras and 1 exterior camera I could cover all entries.
I'm trying diferent brands but can't find one that works for them. I have a Reolink and a tapo system at my home, but neither of them can be activated or desactivated fisically.
my grampas won't be able to enter the app on their phones to activate and desactivate the system so what I would like to do it's for them to have a pad where they can put a pin or something to activate or desactivate the alarm and my dad would heve the app to set everything.
I saw that an option could be ring with it's alarm kit.
do you think that this would be the better option?

    • @stzxvkzzn
      @stzxvkzzn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'm not lifehackster but maybe I can help with this! I think Ring is the way to go. The system comes with a keypad and you can use it to arm/disarm the system. I believe the PIN and everything (like how long it gives you to put in the code before the alarm goes off) will need to be set up using the app, but after that, your grandpa can just use the pinpad to arm/disarm as needed.

I will say that as good as the Wyze cams are, if you need 100% reliable recording, a hardwired (Ethernet) camera system is the only sure thing. S40 Eufy cameras are horrible. Installed 8 s40 cameras and just after the 1 year warranty expired 6 have failed to charge. One camera, the spotlight, will not turn off, thus dead battery. Deeply regret spending my money on eufy products, two keypads for my eufy home security failed just after the one year warranty and they don't make the keypad anymore. This renders my window and door sensors useless. Don't waste your money on eufy.

The Eufy Cam 3 is also still working good for more than a year and I might put in the S40 somewhere in my backyard just to see how long it will last.
