One of the most annoying things about security cameras is the trend toward subscriptions based services. Even if the camera offers basic services without a subscription, it will be severely handicapped. I never cared about remote access or cloud recording, but that shouldn't mean that camera functions should be limited from using the full capability of its hardware without a subscription. I get subscriptions if you want cloud recording and remote control, but doing something like knock your HD camera down to 480p recording on your own SD card or over your private network is stupid.
I purchased the Eufy C24 based on one of your earlier reviews of it and I am very happy with and feel more secure being able to know what is happening around my home and being able to see it 24/7 in the playback mode. Thank you for your informative channel.

Thanks for the review, I was happy to see your update of the Panasonic camera. I actually do not think the no audio is a nagative. Maybe I am a little paranoid, but I prefer not having an open mic running inside my home. I use the Eufy currently on a window and I disabled the mic and audio in the settings.
It is better to have this option and not use it…than needing it and not having it. For example, you are out of the house, you can set the wyze cams to listen for your smoke and CO alarms.
I wish the Panasonic was less expensive. It’s nice that you can easily take it down and move it if needed to. The Eufy after market mount I removed and it became unusable after. I ended up getting 2 sided tape to reuse it.
i use the eufy c24 and i have it recording 24/7 at 1080p in the eufy app and i use it was the apple home, which with my parents family sharing i can use my parents icloud data to record to the apple cloud, i also use the apple homekit for facial recognition etc seems much better than eufy. it works good
This is a great idea. However I found that a station on the window sill is better as you can adjust the angle the camera can view vs fixated to the glass.

Thanks for the thorough review. We decided on the Panasonic due to local storage, no monthly plan required and decent night recording. Expensive, yes, but will still save on monthly fees over the long run.
I got the Eufy after recommendation to view drive , there is enough light from street light to give a pretty decent picture. In daytime it's crystal clear, and the app works well. I have it set for 24/7 recording , I think I will get close to 2 weeks footage before I reformat the SD card and start over. Cost me £39 in UK
Loved this. I used an Amcrest 1080P PTZ for keeping an eye on the backyard of my 2nd home. To get around IR glare, I turned it off, kept the light-blocking drape closed behind it, and installed a good motion detecting light that covered the yard. It worked - but these window-mount cameras are a better deal - albeit not PTZ. My main home as a dozen POE IP cameras feeding an NVR that let me keep an eye on the entire property. Getting 3 of them going on the shed that's 150' from the house required ethernet over power line adapters as I didn't want to dig another trench to the shed for Cat5. It works well enough to capture frequent deer invasions. I'd never have messed with cameras, but for a thwarted smash and grab attempt on my elderly dad who lived here first and I installed some wifi cameras on the driveway and door for his peace of mind. When I retired and moved in to take care of him, I upgraded the entire system because he got real joy out of seeing me work to care for the property when he couldn't any longer. I did however rebuff his request to put a camera on the hot tub where the wife and I like to unwind before turning in. Thanks for the great review!
The Eufy looks like the best window camera option. We are not allowed to install floodlights in our development. What supplemental lighting, preferably solar, would you recommend that doesn't require drilling?
If we must keep our phones turned off at night when we sleep, which setup can we just rollover and use to see what is frequently happening to our cars or yard without having to suddenly jump up all night ?? Will placing an Echo Show on a night table next to the bed work fast enough ??? Can it offer 2-way talk ????
I do this. I have a Yi Home camera setup with 5 cameras. I have an old ipad on a stand next to the bed that shows the feed from one of my cameras all night. Yi (or the sub brand Kami) have apps for Android and iPad that will run a long time, unlike the Amazon Echo Show which times out after 10 minutes of showing video (very disappointing). The Yi stream would run all night for years, but the past few days sometimes it shuts off after a few hours and you have to click the screen to refresh. I am not sure if that is a change at Yi, or my internet. The Yi offers 2 way talk, btw. I do have a subscription to Yi, not sure if you need that to see the constant stream.
Any cheap solar light outside will allow any camera to see much better. I have a few 60 lumen solar lights that to the human eye doesn't do much but to a camera it's a world of difference.
So we have a camera but there is not night vision unless a car light points against a window and glare/reflection from the window if sunlight shines on it or at night. Do you have to buy anything else required for it to work like a monitor? Great video.

Nice review, but I really like my Dekco camera's. So many option and are very clear. Mine do 360 and mount next to the window because they move. If you are looking for another cheap option that isn't tied to the glass I would recommend. Maybe you could do a review on them sometime?
I really love this video. I appreciate the great details. I decided to choose the EUFY C24 but I don't think it's compatible to my wifi 5ghz. Can someone tell me can I still use this product.n

Great review! I purchased a Wyze Cam V3 a couple of days ago. It seems okay, but on the Micro CD card it only records on the (continuous) loop and not on the (events only) i receive a message (operation failed). Kind of strange. Not sure if that's a defect or a software issue.
Thx, currently have mostly tapo c220 indoor and one facing out window with IR off. Would like to see how the C110 compares, it looks very much like the Eufy unit.
I would love to see more DVR and NVR camera and systems. I want to install something on my house that I can store on a drive but yet still get all the alerts via cell phone and be able to do what most apps can do. I have two Wyze cameras but not real happy with playback or searching and also do not like to pay for cloud service to get all the capabilities of view back etc.
You should clarify and love your videos. I called Eufy support for c120/C24 solo indoor mounted flush through glass. They mentioned when set to continuous recording and IR/Night vision turned off with SD Card with outdoor lighting on at night or daytime EUFY RECORDS Motion CONTINUOUSLY BUT THEY DO NOT SEND MOTION DETECTION NOTIFICATIONS. The tech said that would be true for most indoor cameras through glass both day and night..NO MOTION DETECTION NOTIFICATIONS..is that true based on your experience??
Surprised no one officially or Etsy 3D print stores have not marketed a ring indoor cam window mount that hold it flush to the window while shrouding out perpendicular light like these
@LifeHackster Is there a camera that be used as a window cam that has onvif to hook into a computer based nvr? BTW great videos and I have been a fane of your reviews for quite a few years now keep up the great work. and cheers
I've watched several videos on Home Hawk, but haven't seen one mounted on upstairs window. What is the field of vision on these? Do they look only ahead but not down at all? Thank you.
Hi, Could you make a video on an indoor wifi camera with the best mic? I believe there isn't a single video or article on which indoor camera has the best mic. So for example, If I want to detect noise entering my unit (lets say impact noise from an apartment above or a neighbours barking dog), from what I have tested , the wyze cam v3, it is very poor and can't detect it while a cellphone mic (recording video) can easily pick these up. This would be very helpful. Or if you could give a recommendation for this purpose that would be helpful as well.
Hi we picked the Eufy C120 2 cams indoor based on your thorough reviews but we are having an issue with multicamera view does the app not allow if not is there one you can recommend
After having an old, broken car in my driveway broken into twice (the second time was kind of funny, they thought they'd just hotwire a car with a ruined battery and ancient gas in the tank), I've been giving more serious thought to cameras. I was already planning to replace the light over the back door...I'll get a motion detector light. If I stick a wifi camera on the kitchen door, it'll catch idiots in my back yard and driveway...and anyone who knocks on my door (the front door is not in use). I'll be able to check to see if my packages really were delivered, too. I think the Eufy wins hands down in this comparison, but I'll be looking at what else there is out there...but I can see that the higher resolution is important. What's the point of blurry images that can't be used to prosecution thieves?
I think overall without having to worry about needing extra lights, the v3 comes out on top for price/value/performance It's a shame the V3 is the one that has A LOT OF stuck IR filter issues from what I see on the wyze group. they clearly have some internal mechanical problems with that camera.
If you're just using it through a window though you wouldn't be turning IR on and shouldn't encounter that filter getting stuck issue. It doesn't excuse it being an issue that should be addressed by the company but if you won't be using IR, it could be a good option. It's definitely an issue if you're mounting it high up outside since you either need to give it a few good whacks or apparently use a magnet to unlodge the suck filter if just switching it on and off won't fix it.
@@XSemperIdem5 yes you're correct. You won't be turning on IR if you're simply using it as a window base camera so it probably still is the best of the bunch for this kind of situation.
You can do this with the wyze because you can separately turn off IR and black and white night vision. With the eufy, when you turn off auto night vision, it will be in color which IR emitter will have no effect.
So I purchased the EUFY indoor camera to hook up to my window to look outside. I got all the products that you had suggested it K’NEX good and all of that I even got the SanDisk. My problem is turbo if it’s not bright, light out side, then the Red lights on the camera come on and I don’t know how to turn them off I know how to turn one but I can’t turn off like the round circle of red lights so it just reflects on the window. I can’t figure out either I’ve got a put something black all the way around except for the little circle of the round camera in the center or I don’t know what to do. I wanna use it when it’s daylight out? When I needed to have a camera in my garage, I use the baby monitor left a small light on and set up the baby monitor and then the little screen part was connected in my bedroom so I could just look on there and I can look out in the garage and see everything in color And I had a two way audio and it ran on Wi-Fi that works really good but I wasn’t getting a very good Wi-Fi signal so sometimes it would fall in and out of Wi-Fi. But all in all it worked really good. I had it out there for two years. But I was hoping I could use this AU FYI camera and hook it onto the glass to look out in a blind spot area. But if there’s no light, then the lights, some of the lights stay on and you just get this back glare. So I’m at the point now where I’m trying to figure out what kind of like can I put there saying that there’s no electrical outlet if I have to install the light just for a camera to look out the window I might as will just install the camera with the light resident go through all of that.😂
Eufy C24 Go to video settings and turn OFF "Night Vision" to get rid of the circle of LEDs. However you will need an external light to get a video....floodlight with PIR or something.
I have/had the Panasonic Homehawk, Ring Doorbell, Arlo outdoor cameras, and indoor/outdoor Reolink cameras. The Panasonic Homehawk is by far the best and most reliable performer, but it's drawbacks are the low resolution and the app could come with more bells and whistles. Reolink cameras have all the best options, but their reliability is terrible. The majority of cameras purchased, all different models, have issues. Ring is just a low res, high feature, and very high cost option. All of my Arlo cameras have had failures, with some now completely dead. And Arlo is now charging for their service, which is the nail in the coffin. I'd love to expand my Panasonic cameras to replace the Ring doorbell, etc., but I doubt Panasonic has interest in doing that in such a saturated market.
What if the window is a multi-pane window of 2 or 3 panes? Did you consider this when performing the tests? Seems to me that multi-paned window might introduce additional reflection or distortion that would affect the video quality.
Hey LifeHackster, I knew you would come to the rescue for a see-through-window camera. Q. Do you think that the video quality will suffer, if the cameras are looking through a double-glazed window; the normal type of window in the UK. Many thanks, G. London

The best combination is camera infrared off+night vision auto+a separate infrared illuminator outside.
Which camera lets you turn off ir lights but stay in nightvision?
@@wattsobx Did you figure out which camera lets you do that?
Great video. Thank you for the detailed comparison and practical advice such as providing additional night lights.
Thanks LifeHackster! I wonder if anyone has been foolish enough to actually prowl around outside your house? If so, how many cameras recorded them?
Not yet..or not that I want to…thanks for watching!
This is great? What’s the best camera to record indoor events (daily family interactions) to keep for memories?
Eufy or Wyze
Are there any cameras thru glass I can use on a battery OR plugged into a battery pack? I’d like to install a camera thru glass on my door so running wires to an outlet is not a good option. Please help!!!
Unfortunately, all battery powered cameras uses a PiR sensor for motion detection which doesn’t work thru glass.
@@LifeHackster any that comes w usb/usb-c cable that I can plug into an external battery pack instead of wall socket? Or perhaps you’ve a solution for camera thru glass that’s on a door that I’m not thinking of? 🙏
Great review! I purchased a Wyze Cam V3 a couple of days ago. It seems okay, but on the Micro CD card it only records on the (continuous) loop and not on the (events only) i receive a message (operation failed). Kind of strange. Not sure if that's a defect or a software issue.
There is a setting to do only event recording. Its under event recordings and then advanced settings.
Make sure the firmware is updated to the latest version
Also get the Cam plus lite which is free with the V3 to get some cloud storage and person detection
You can update the firmware or might need to reset and re-setup. Thanks for watching!
@@LifeHackster Thanks for your reply. Firmware is up to date. I will try to reset and re-setup as you suggest. Wish me luck. Thanks again!
Bro you are the king of video camera security
Nope. I get notifications.
I will call tech back..clearly they gave me bad info..love your site!
Surprised no one officially or Etsy 3D print stores have not marketed a ring indoor cam window mount that hold it flush to the window while shrouding out perpendicular light like these
@LifeHackster Is there a camera that be used as a window cam that has onvif to hook into a computer based nvr? BTW great videos and I have been a fane of your reviews for quite a few years now keep up the great work. and cheers
I haven’t seen one yet. Thanks for watching!
I’m interested in purchasing but I can’t find the window attachment with a downward angle

I've watched several videos on Home Hawk, but haven't seen one mounted on upstairs window. What is the field of vision on these? Do they look only ahead but not down at all? Thank you.
Can they be mounted on car windows?
Do you think the Panasonic would provide good video from a 2nd floor apt?
No, because you cannot tilt down the camera. Watch this -> th-cam.com/video/mq_ico0BXTU/w-d-xo.html
I use wise cam v2 and taped it to my window . Been going strong for 3 years
Hi, Could you make a video on an indoor wifi camera with the best mic? I believe there isn't a single video or article on which indoor camera has the best mic. So for example, If I want to detect noise entering my unit (lets say impact noise from an apartment above or a neighbours barking dog), from what I have tested , the wyze cam v3, it is very poor and can't detect it while a cellphone mic (recording video) can easily pick these up.
This would be very helpful.
Or if you could give a recommendation for this purpose that would be helpful as well.
Anything that can be mounted on first floor window and look down?
Hi LifeHackster, is C24 now C120? Or both same thing.
They are the same thing. Eufy renamed this camera.
Very well done and super informative! I stopped halfway through to subscribe.
Where can I buy or purchase a stick up shelf to set the window camera on? Thank you!
Hi we picked the Eufy C120 2 cams indoor based on your thorough reviews but we are having an issue with multicamera view does the app not allow if not is there one you can recommend
The Eufy app currently doesn't have multicamera view. Check out the Tapo C120 which the Tapo app does have multicamera view.
You are Awesome Thank you
After having an old, broken car in my driveway broken into twice (the second time was kind of funny, they thought they'd just hotwire a car with a ruined battery and ancient gas in the tank), I've been giving more serious thought to cameras.
Do you have amazon link for Eufy c24? I am confused which one is the one you use here.
Eufy has renamed it to the indoor cam C120 -> amzn.to/3TquBZr
I think overall without having to worry about needing extra lights, the v3 comes out on top for price/value/performance
It's a shame the V3 is the one that has A LOT OF stuck IR filter issues from what I see on the wyze group. they clearly have some internal mechanical problems with that camera.
@@XSemperIdem5 I use other cameras with the IR CUT filter and IR lights disabled. So no window reflections.
You can usually use a magnet to move it, but that doesn't help you if you needto be there to switch it. :(
@@XSemperIdem5 yes you're correct. You won't be turning on IR if you're simply using it as a window base camera so it probably still is the best of the bunch for this kind of situation.
If you do not want an outdoor light on outside. What about an IR emitter light outside.
You can do this with the wyze because you can separately turn off IR and black and white night vision. With the eufy, when you turn off auto night vision, it will be in color which IR emitter will have no effect.
Thanks that helps me to not make the wrong purchase. The newer color cameras look tempting.
So I’m at the point now where I’m trying to figure out what kind of like can I put there saying that there’s no electrical outlet if I have to install the light just for a camera to look out the window I might as will just install the camera with the light resident go through all of that.😂
Eufy C24
Go to video settings and turn OFF "Night Vision" to get rid of the circle of LEDs. However you will need an external light to get a video....floodlight with PIR or something.
Can you recommend some supplementary lights to support cameras that arent particularly strong or don't have lighting for night time
Wyze
The Euphy C24 is no longer available. Can you suggest an alternative Euphy? Is the C120 a good substitute?
@Eyelash40 They are the same camera just given a different name.
Thanks for a great review. I will buy one based on your video.
@Penpalinflorida...Thanks for watching!
Clean vids 👌 great info retention is there love the chapters
Thank you for this excellent review.
Thanks for watching!
What if the window is a multi-pane window of 2 or 3 panes? Did you consider this when performing the tests? Seems to me that multi-paned window might introduce additional reflection or distortion that would affect the video quality.
Windows used in this video are double paned.
Like to see this type of video with Apple Home Kit compatible cameras. Nice job
You have to add wyze cam v3 pro next time
On the Home Hawk does it only record to an SD card ? On that camera you cannot home in and watch live footage Can you?
Does it have an app?
I like watching random people's cameras in their homes. The things you see 😂.
the amazon C24 link point to C120, is it on purpose?
Do these cameras have a web interface that can be accessed with a computer to monitor and adjust the camera settings?
Seems likr the answer is Eufy C24
Wonder how the Wyze cam telephoto would look pointed out the window
Watch this -> th-cam.com/video/ld0_UDUrrcw/w-d-xo.html
@@LifeHackster thx exactly what I was looking for.
Are any of those cameras onvif compatible?
How long for eufy s340 solar to charge
I can’t find the eufy c24 camera, is it the same as eufy c120?
Yes, eufy changed the name from C24 to C120.
Do the movement notification test while in dark as well.
The new eufy wired cam just came out can you please test it.
Why does the link for the Eufy say C24 but it shows the C120 are they the same?
He answered that the C24 is now the C120.
Thank you L.H.
You are welcome.
Great comparison!! Thanks for the info👍
Hey LifeHackster,
I knew you would come to the rescue for a see-through-window camera.
Q. Do you think that the video quality will suffer, if the cameras are looking through a double-glazed window; the normal type of window in the UK.
Many thanks,
G.
London
What about V3 Pro?
You can also use this using the V3 mount..but video quality and performance and price the V3 or the OG is the better option.
