      Graham Stephan do you have to take courses or classes, or are those optional for the license exam?

    This story really hits home to me. I wasn't quite as young when I started at 22, but I felt so defeated whenever someone asked my age. It always felt like that was their way of discrediting me. One of my best clients, to this day, had bought a $700k home through me on about my 14th month into real estate. They believed in me and gave me a chance I desperately needed. I'm so grateful for that opportunity because that was my eye opening experience that I could do this! Great to hear your story as well!

    What a baller - starting with $3.5 million deals! Such a great backstory - getting results took 10 months of grinding, and shadowing someone who was already successful. It's starting to sound cliche, but having a mentor (and working your ass off) is the absolute key to success.

Little did i know she made over 500k last year in Realestate. I told her about the business i started and she was baffled and happy for me and now we work together. Still need a 3M house to sell though haha.

    Awesome video - it's always great learning people's backstory. 100% Agree - most successful people are happy to see others succeed. If you're young and hungry, a lot of more experienced people will project their former selves upon you and be more than happy to pay it forward by giving you a chance or take you under their wing to mentor you. If you're constantly putting in the work - you'll eventually get 'lucky'.

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I totally agree. The most successful people I see just want others to succeed - it's only the ones that are stuck in this finite scarcity mindset that end up discouraging other people, as though the other person is taking away from the "limited" amount of business out there, which isn't the case at all - plenty to go around for everyone.

Before watching this video I was nervous to go to open houses and meet the realtors that are the successful ones in the area. But now I'm not and am going to the next open house I can find to introduce myself. Thank you for the motivation and wish me luck Graham.

    In my opinion maybe your mentor understood that you felt you had no other choice(not being accepted into colleges) and that would be your driving force into becoming successful. Either way it was somewhat lucky to find a mentor that would believe in you and show you down the path, but it was still ultimately up to you to do the work to get there. Much respect chum! Don't stop now :)

    Graham this reminds me of walking an open house last week.. I've been crashing them like crazy every weekend to meet the agents and study the market in preparation to buy my first place, and become an income property investor. There was this fresh-out-of-school looking young lady shadowing the listing agent and when I mentioned the musty smell coming from the basement that you couldn't even miss from the landing, she giggled and said "oh, someone will love it' or somthing to that effect. Oh honey... nobody loves that smell. I just wanted to sit her down and be like no girrrrrrrrrrrrl you gotta learn how to identify and mitigate moisture problems and stage a home, cos the realtors who DO know that will eat you alive and get the savvy clients and nice listings.. she was terrible but it was 100% for being brand new and I felt compelled to help her. I could so see myself becoming a real estate agent. XD

    This is just straight motivation for me. While you were putting in all of those hours of work with your mentor, were you getting paid during that point in time? The only bad part I see about starting off as an agent is I can't really go however many months without having any sort of income.

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jake Wilson I wasn't getting paid BUT I was learning a lot. I also did some leases which would pay $500-$2000 per lease, and I'd do 2-4 per month so I was making some money but it was purely commission. Some months was 0, some $4000+, it was inconsistent.

      Thanks for the encouragement! I definitely like the actual work more than I liked accounting. If you have time I’d like to further get some more advice from you about the business since we’re in the same market. We can chat via email or I can take you out for a drink or coffee. I’d really appreciate your input.

    Hey Graham, just want to say thank you for all of your vids and the insight you gave me with how to go about in property, it helped me so much! i dont know if you remember a while ago i commented saying that I purchased my first house for $12 000, well, i have my first tenets (family of 6) renting it for $220 and my monthly installments on the house is $120, When i went to get a review of the house I found that the true value of the property with the house is $20 000. Wish i could buy you a beer to say thank you! so man, Graham, what do i do next, I feel im on a roll

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eugene Braaf Well done! Be careful with the tenant of 6, just check in every few months to make sure everything is maintained properly!

    I’m 17, about to be 18. I’m about to go to a csu this fall to be a math teacher. I’ve always loved math and have always felt like I was meant to be a teacher. But I really reflected on what I’m getting myself into. I do not want to go to school for 5 years then have to work basically a 9-5 job. That’s not my thing. Real estate has always interested me. I’ve always really wanted to do my own thing and i think real estate would be perfect. I’ve always thought about it. I would love to not do the same thing everyday, meet new people and all that. It just sounds fun. I’m not scared of diving all in. I’m just scared of telling my family that I wanna drop out of college and go all in with real estate.

    Also, don't let people tell you that you were just in the right place at the right time. When someone puts in as much time as you did, they are bound to have an opportunity come there way. Everyone of all ages gets opportunities to change our life, it's just whether we can recognize and execute.
