- A 17.8 km Long Range FPV flight that uses powerful li-ion cells to reach 8 km out for epic views from the peak of a 2200 meter mountain. I built a 7" long range quad with TBS CROSSFIRE to take my GoPro on a flight that turned out to be quite amazing, in both range and beauty. There's a glacier, waterfalls, a river, outstanding views and more!

I'm often asked about how I get such good video and transmitter range. The biggest improvement for most will be from upgrading their antennas. I use these ones (Airblade UAV affiliate links):

This flight was done with 2 x 2600 mah 6s li-ion packs in parallel, one on top, one underneath.
Post process:
-ReelSteady Go for stabilization
-Adobe Premiere Pro for editing, color correction etc...
-Recorded at 2.7k 60 fps and exported at 4k 60 fps

Oh sorry, lol, I have it set to turn on really early. I need to know quite early on if I'm really far out. I've set it to go on a bit later now.
@@FalconRadFPV No way to set voltage reminders instead of a low voltage alarm set really high?
@@hotmailcompany52 I think it's still a good idea to set a very early low voltage warning in case you're running LiPo's. Maybe make it a bit less distracting so you can concentrate more on flying when you're actually out with Li-ion's and you know you can go further.
High internal resistance on Li-Ion battery causes huge amount of voltage sag
@@AL-jc5xs also li ions can be safely ish discharged further than lipos. i mean they can safely reach 2.5v (under load with sag open circuit voltage shouldnt go below 3v or so) multiple times with just the battery capacity degrading being faster.

LiPo batteries are nothing else than Li-ion technology. It’s the same chemistry and can run equally low.
You didn’t start with a full charge. You started at 4.08V instead of 4.20V. It could have given you some more flight time ☺️
@@Utube2Itube I'm sorry but that's just not true, Li-ion uses a liquid electrolyte and Li-Po uses a polymer electrolyte. The result is that Li-ion has much higher energy density per unit volume, and Li-Po has slightly better energy density per unit mass. Li-Pos can also typically withstand higher current draw (much lower internal resistance). Other key differences include that Li-ions have a maximum voltage per cell of 4.1V, whereas Li-Pos are 4.2V. Li-Pos shouldn't be discharged below 3.3V whereas Li-ions can safely go to 3V, or even lower (some are rated down to 2.5V)
@@HarryPhillips1453 Hi Harry, with all respect, but you are falling into the same pit of “myths” as many other people.
LiPo’s are not using a polymer electrolyte. Solid state electrolytes are still in a early research state and typically require elevated temperatures to even work decently at all. The cyclability in terms of life time is also severely limited.
Moreover, if you know how to do it in a safe way, go ahead and open up a LiPo, and you will see that they use a conventional liquid state electrolyte. I open them within my job.
LiPos have the exact same lower and upper cutoff voltage, typically 3.0-4.2, you will find the exact recommendations in the manufacturer data sheets.
I agree that the energy density and the cycling rate differs, but that’s due to the different form factor of the cells (pouch cells vs cylindrical), ie those are engineering differences, not chemistry.
In summary, a LiPo is nothing else than a Li-ion chemistry put into a pouch cell format. Trust me, I have worked with batteries in the past 10 years.

I’m in awe how your fpv feed had absolutely no break up.
I have done this route before and memorized the right way to go to avoid having the ridges get in the way. Clear line of sight and good antennas are the most important parts.

Just so you know, my vtx and crossfire setups are both good solid choices. My esc and motor choices are not optimal, I'm going to do some testing soon to figure out a better esc and motor for good range.

That was the most Beautiful long range F flight I've ever seen. It takes a lot of skill to fly that far and the way you did it.
I was happy today that I was able to get 3 miles with my drone in an open flat area. I'm humbled after watching this! Incredible
Thanks a lot! It a lot of dedication to work up to flights like this one. In a way the difficult pre-flight anxiety I always have to get through helps me out. I get over it by talking with my spotter about route plans and possible line of sight issue's to avoid. So if I'm at location X and have video problems I likely need to go left to clear it up. It not only settles my nerves but also gives my flight a clear destination and route which makes it easier to concentrate on getting interesting video shots.
