  • Biologists say the return of wolves to Yellowstone National Park has brought a balance to the natural world. But some say that achievement is threatening their own way of life. Michelle Miller looks at how new laws could affect the effort to restore these animals to the wild.
“CBS Saturday Morning” co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts.

As a Wyoming cattle rancher and manager of a wildlife sanctuary, I assure you that large / small predators and human beings can co-exist. Yes, there will be some livestock killed annually. But, since the government (US citizens) own America's wildlife, the US government should always pay for these inevitable livestock kills. Livestock protection dogs, electric fencing, conditioning predators to avoid livestock and select predator relocation and hunting are some of the tools in the "rancher as ecologist" toolbox. Ultimately, the solution here is for we human beings to become native to the landscape, and thus, we realize the brevity and sanctity of all life.

Good luck seeing one, I've been fortunate enough to only see them twice, Montucky and Idohell both have a war on wolves, so come see them while they last!

I have seen wolves over the years in Yellowstone until I was completely “hooked”. We recently went out with guides to see them, also in Yellowstone. I highly recommend the trip. The money goes to conservation and the wolves didn’t even know we were there. If not for the scopes we would never see them. Two members of a pack were killed while we were there. They stepped outside the park.

Loosing these wolves, or the bears for that matter, would be a terrible blow to the ecosystem, Yellowstone needs apex predators to thrive.

My Pepe wrote to anyone and everyone who had influence to get the wolves returned to Yellowstone back in the 70s and early 80s. He died before it happened...but I remember thinking that he would be so happy. He helped shape me into the conservationalist I am today. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during this pandemic and social crisis

AWESOME!!! Restoring the balance of nature. It also definitely needs to be done in the Rocky Mountain Nation Park Big Time!!! The deer and elk there are taking over and ending up starving to death because there are so many of them and no wolves or any other predators there to re-set the balance of nature there!!!!!!!! To see how healthy any area is, check the balance triangle. The predators are at the top of it. The wolves were here/there long before humans showed up.

It's ridiculous to put ourselves and our property above another life. Wolves deserve to live along side us so we should quit messing with nature because we consider ourselves superior. Wolves are intelligent and mourn the dead the same we do, so we can't just put a human's life and property above a wolf's.

We know yellowstone only began to thrive again when the wolves were brought back
In other countries they use donkeys and Lammas as flock protection aswel as guardian dog breeds cattle with horns also help. Like most predator they can hunt its when sick old injured or incroachment that tips the balance

These people are so crazy they really think that a wolf has compassion for them I only get what they're saying as far as the ecosystem being balanced but anything more than that such as thinking that you can communicate with the wolf to make sure you don't have to shoot it and that you would never shoot a wolf is just delusional if it comes down to it my life is more important than wolves and sword our children's and innocent animals the fact that these people really think of wolf would choose to immediately stop mid attack on them and realize that they are like the people who care about wolves
