Building My First PC + everything that went wrong | New PC vs Old PC

  • Had a heart attack during the test run, but it was all good. Nothing broke nor exploded so I consider that mission accomplished! As a first time builder with no previous experience, I wanted to highlight the difficulties I came across that no one tells you about. I hope you find my struggles entertaining.
My pre-built PC was wearing down and I was planning to get a new one when I came across the idea of building a PC. I spent the money I would've used on a pre-built to create a better custom build :)
Apologies for audio quality. Don't have a suitable mic.

Update: I didn't know that higher end graphics cards should be plugged in with multiple PCI-e cables instead of one (They don't seem to mention this in tutorials for beginners😭). Luckily, my PSU came with an additional PCI-e cable so I swapped out the pigtail for the second cable to the GPU. Thank you to the commenters below for this advice! I would've never known if it wasn't for you guys. ❤❤❤

@@Joshua-1986 not really that self explanatory, if anything, I would actually blame the manufactures for creating pigtails in the first place. Instead of actually giving us the proper cable for a proper spec, manufactures decided to cut cost and throw in the pigtails instead. Beginners would not the pcie slot only delivers up to 75w and an 8-pin cable only delivers up to 150w. Beginners also would not know graphics cards do not just simply take whatever wattage delivered, but rather drawing power from the psu, which resulting in the 8-pin cable working over-spec and an explosion in the worst case. Pigtails are such useless tools that were not even supposed to exist in the first place.

Actually the CPU was still decent in the HP, $500-600 worth of upgrades, RTX 3060, another 8GB ram, and a 3.5 SSD and new PSU and you could do all your gaming/content creation with with ease and would be a beast sleeper.

Well done on your new build, it looks really cool and great job putting it together! I have a similar build using a mix of the same Lian Li fans both 120s and 140s. As you mentioned they sound loud, probably because of the automatic fan curves. I have a 5900x and that cpu can spike up to 70c as it is trying to keep the turbo boost going.
You will need to create custom fan curves, 800rpm for the 120s would be silent, 1200rpm for more intensive tasks should be fine for your build. Anything more than 1200rpm would be loud. Keeping 800rpm up to 70c and up to 1200rpm for higher temps would be fine.
If you are gaming all fans at 1200rpm should create enough airflow to dissipate heat while keeping a low noise system. (Also if the aio pump is silent i would just set that at 2500rpm, if it is loud i would set a silent profile at 1700rpm and 2500rpm at all other times like gaming/editing etc.)

  • @lalisameo4677

U should use two separate cable 8pins for the video card as they need more power. I suggest get another cable mod package and make sure they are power cable not extension. They must be type 4 cable with the correct pins these are not extension. Last thing make sure u tight that video card well they are proon to sagging. U could use a anti saggin or I just put extra fan under it for support. My pc is a Lian Li Mesh 2, I like the 011 but it might give me problem as I was doing a case swap so I need a case that fit exactly my pc but with more room. I just paint my white save the trouble of having to buy everything white lol.

I just wanna say I absolutely love this pc build, its beautiful and has a nice aesthetic. It has the capability to remain a top pc for 10 years. My only note is your Power Supply is really small for a PC of this caliber. It will run it but I highly highly recommend upgrading to a 1000W PSU or even a 1200W PSU. This will allow for upgradability and further future proof your build. Good work though!

    Great build!
One suggestion, make your top fans exhaust (as hot air rises) and make the bottom fans and side fans intake.
Your current fan configuration has it pulling in cold air from above where the hot air is sitting and is blowing out cold air at the bottom where the cold air is sitting.
So change your bottom and side fans to intake because it pulls cold air in and make your top fans exhaust as it pushes all the hot air at the top of the case out.
    Will have better air flow.

    • @yujecreates
      @yujecreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yup! It's actually configured exactly as you suggested. I just followed the rule of "faces suck" so the bottom and side fans are facing out of the case. The fan box came with with lian li logo stickers so that I can cover the ugly fine print on the back side of the fans. So far, I've noticed my CPU and GPU stay roughly 45C to 57C so ventilation has been great.

You don't need fan gaskets. Just need to tune your fans. Find the fastest fan speed that is still pretty quiet. I usually have my fans all at 45% until the cpu and gpu get to 70C (which rarely happens) and then they ramp up to 70%
You should locate the fast boot option in bios it will allow your computer to boot in less than 5 seconds with those parts.
Also you could tighten up that cable management. Your cpu power cables (the Top ones) could be pulled together and lined up. Use zipties on the back side to do that. You don't need that much cabel coming out of the back. Get them lined up and pulled into the back of the case more. Same with the big 24 pin one. Also that small black cable coming from the aio cooler could be routed more astetically and hidden. This is all just for looks of course. Same with the gpu power you can have it come from the bottom holes instead of side ones minimizing visible cabling.
Also make sure your monitor is set to 144hz if you have a high refresh rate display!
You'll get it all figured out. Welcome to the world of custom pcs! The first ones the hardest

This is an amazing build! I do have to mention that a 750 Watt power supply may not be enough for a power hungry card like the 3080. Some PCs have stopped working after using an 850 watt with that. I recommend switching the 750 watt for a quality 850 watt like corsair's, or a 1000w. This build was incredible tho!

    • @reviewforthetube6485
      @reviewforthetube6485 2 ปีที่แล้ว

750watts is enough for a 3080 when you get to a 3090 is when you should get an 850watt power supply. Sure 850 is nice and it's a safe bet you won't ever have any issues but what she needed she did in fact get which is 750watts. If she can afford to get another one sure but if she's fine which I'm sure she is once she hooked up the gpu correctly which she didn't have in this video well she is good to go now! People have gotten away with 650watt psu for 3080s in many many stress tests. But 750 is fully safe 850 is extra which is good yes and 1000watt is absolutely overkill that's what I use with my 3090ti lol. Which is 480watts on its own ans can get up to 520watts and has much larger spikes in watts.

One thing I would've have done is get an 850 PSU just to future proof more; I know this build is around 600 W so 750 W is 100% enough for now, but with the upcoming new CPUs and GPUs (rumors) and considering how power-hungry they are I would just spend some extra cash to get some stuff that I won't have to get in the future.

In the Asus Bios, you can run qFan Control by pressing F6 and let the bios calibrate the fans. This would help with fan curve tuning if you're new to PC building. Make sure you also enable DOCP (Memory overclocking profile) to ensure your ram is running at advertised clock speeds.

Almost identical build to mine. My biggest issue so far is that AIO block fitting to the MB. Very dodge feeling installing it. Hope it all Still works.

While a RM750x PSU probably is fine, you will run that at almost 100% power when doing stressful things like rendering etc so I would recommend going at least with a 850W Platinum (a A/B rated Gold is fine as well) but preferably +1000W just to make sure you have head room and don't drive the PSU at max all the time. Just a minor recommendation for the future, otherwise a great build!.
Don't be a person who spend $2000 on CPU/GPU/Motherboard and a fancy case with RGB fans and then $60 on a cheap bronze/gold PSU.. that will just result in issues.

Wondering if it's just Asus Motherboards with the Ram. I had similar issues when I was just adding an additional 32g of it to it. Nice build by the way. 😊

Great build, I love the white color scheme. I do recommend moving the AIO radiator to the back of the case. Your thermal temps will thank you for it. It requires a lot of air to force heat from the GPU/ inside the case through the top radiator and will ultimately clog the radiator fins with dust. Your case will be able to push air easier and won't clog with dust if radiator is on the front or back of the case. Your first build was 10x better than my first build!

Nice pc. 1 BIG thing though. Turn on XMP profiles in your bios. Shutdown pc abd then turn on your pc. Spam f2 until bios comes up and you should see XMP. Enable it. You will get the ram speed you paid for.

I’m hoping you upgraded your GPU to atleast a 850W PSU Because 750W is just enough but it’s better to always have a little extra head room. Overall Beautiful Build 👍🏽🔥💯

great build with powerful gpu but(You can ignore this comment if you want.) i think you might have overspent a little on motherboard and maybe even on cpu cooler. Also m.2 nvme gen 4 ssd's are indeed fast but just in terms of the benchmark scores. The real world speed difference between gen 3, gen4 or even sata ssd wouldn't matter to you much(unless you care about a few seconds).
While this doesn't mean there is anything bad in the build but there is definitely a little bit of overspending.
