    I really enjoy those 15-2 games, I think as a viewer there is a lot more to take away from them compared to the blitzgames, so keep them coming ;)
    Just out of curiosity, do you still 'educate' yourself in terms of chess once in a while outside of just playing yourself? I'm just wondering since you mentioned yasser seirawan and he's one of the GM's giving lessons on the st. louis chess clubs channel.

      Thanks. Glad you're enjoying the standard games. I take the time to educate myself primarily through reviewing games I play. For some events, I'll tune in to commentaries. I recall being a big listener to commentary some time ago. It helped to build my own internal dialogue as a player.

      15-2 are also my fav games.
      Not only do I almost exclusively play those, but also I think it better fits the style of Jerry commentating and spending a lot of time in the opening.

    I'm working my way through these standard games one per day. Up to #22 now, and learning so much! I've been studying strategy and tactics from books for a while, and it's so illuminating to see how an accomplished player sorts through and applies all these ideas in specific circmstances under pressure of the clock. It gives me a target to aim for. Thanks, Jerry!

    Very honest and helpful insight into the thought processes. Very few if any masters are willing to do this.

      I think Geggles was making a pun on the double meaning of the verb "to mate", after talking about "picking up" the queen. I'll let you think about it.

    Listening to your thought processes, where you are applying the concepts that you are presenting in your "Beginner to master" series is fascinating.
    Your last video on the 'power of pins' was quite an eye-opener for me... I really like the concept of a piece limiting the power of MORE than one piece... very cool!

    Good to see that when going for material advantages, sometimes you'll miss the killer moves. Better to go for checkmate!

    Why g3? You said in a beginner to master video that if there is already a door open, then just develop through that door and don't waste time

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's just another system. I could have just as well played to e2. Time is one factor, but not the only. The bishop does just fine on g2. I thought it was time worth spending to deploy the bishop on what may turn out to be an active long diagonal. Also, in case you are understanding that tip, or others for that matter, as an 'always case', don't! These are general guides/tips and there will be exceptions.

    • @GoingGoneable
      @GoingGoneable 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think most rules in chess are not set in stone. I might not be experienced enough to give a correct analysis, but just from my amateurish point of view, there aren't very many good diagonals on the queenside for the light bishop, especially with e6 played, which shunts the diagonal towards the king afters he's castled (I think its unlikely the king will castle queenside with the c pawn already moved). Playing Bb5 isn't really accomplishing much with the d pawn unmoved (there is no pin), and if you take the knight then you are helping black make a d5 push with bxc6. Again, I might have made a few errors but I think from the points I mentioned its more productive to spend an extra tempo to fianchetto the bishop, which helps defend the center

    • @RRaps3
      @RRaps3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      How did you know that the bishop might be more useful in a fianchetto?

  • @stelfoog
    @stelfoog 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 27:55 couldn't black have done something different than move on king-side. What could white have done if the pawn (or rook for that matter) wasn't moved? Wouldn't it just become a stall-fest draw?

    congrats on 130k subs Jerry! :) btw I thought 10. Bxf6 Bxf6 11. Nd5 Bg4 12. c3 could do something. Totally dislodges the knight and if he captures u just recapture and nothing's bad. The position is entirely closed and it is his terrible bishop vs your awesome knight. If he retreats with the bishop after the knight exchange, it doesn't change the fact that it is a closed position and your knight is in a fantasy. Just my thoughts

  • @michaelferguson8438
    @michaelferguson8438 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I got something out of it: the patients of Holy Job in keeping pressure with an outpost knight in closed postion (I just kept looking how to open it) and mate not material is goal.

    Jerry just asking out of curiosity, why are you taking so much time in the first 7-8 moves, don't national masters usually know some theory? Or is it just to educate us? Are you deciding on which variation to play?

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      My opening theory knowledge is very minimal. This is really just how I go about the opening...leaning a great deal on general principles.

    • @zifircin1797
      @zifircin1797 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i actually like a lot seing you think for the first mooves,+ its so instructive for me, in fact its one of ur strengh i think i mean even if computer think u've a slight disadventage out of the opening at least you know why your doing thing you do and you can then follow your idea while other side just get " a good position " for a computer but often dont know how to deal 100% correctly with it.
      PS : probably a lot of fault just try to ignore them plz x)

      +ChessNetwork will you ever become an international master? And how do you acquire that rank is it just by having high rating

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't know. I'm not shooting for any higher title. I haven't played in a tournament in about 5 years. You obtain the IM title by acquiring a FIDE rating of 2400, and earning 3 IM norms. An IM norm is earned by performing at a 2500 playing strength (performance rating) in specific tournaments that meet the criteria to offer norms.

      Not most efficient time-wise, but certainly not a waste. The post on g2 is justified.
