thanks for this fabulous tutorial, but there is a slight disagreement about the race transmission. The ability to adjust every gear could let us make sure that each gear covers the full rpm range when the engine producing relative high torque, especially for those turbo charged engine that lose some torque at very high rpm. Thus, that would give the best acceleration the car can have.

My notes from this vid, feel free to copy:
    Pretty low pressure (1.0 - 1.6)
Reducing camber front - better turn in. The more downfirce, the less. Tune for understeer.
Reducing camber rear - more traction out off slow corners, instability in faster, longer turns.
More toe out front - Turn in more extremly.
More toe in rear - Better stability.
    Higher caster normaly. (6.0 - 7.0)
For bad turning cars, low caster.
Softer roll bar, more grip = worse turning mid-corner.
Very soft front, very hard rear
Oversteer, struggling out of turns, stiffer front springs, soften rear. Use pretty soft settings.
Softer front than rear with most AWD.
More grip in a turn - lower bump setting.
    Increase for mid corner.
Oversteer turn-in, stiffen front bump/soften the rear. Normally pretty low.
    Rebound stiffer than bump.
Lower front rebound - rendency to oversteer turn-in, less oversteer exiting turns. Opposite for rear.
More downforce front - tendency to oversteer.
More rear - more understeer, but better for mid and high corners.
Normally very high front downfoce, and very low rear.
A little more breaking to rear for stability.
In forza, high acceleration = better mid-cornering

Johnson Racing Thanks for your reply. I have wanted to make a tuning video like you for a long time but not very confident about my knowledge. Now I found many consensus from your video and feeling that the time I put into research was not wasted.
Unfortunately, after nearly two hours of test, the 100% front accelerate diff lock is proven to be beneficial for FWD cars but I have failed to notice significant difference for AWD cars in terms of lap time and steering feeling. I personally still prefer a very low value based on my past tests and experiences. This difference of result could be caused by two possibilities: I am a keyboard player so extremely sharp steering could lead to suddenly losing front grip, and or I am not used to these settings as 100% front lock made some of my AWD cars spinning front wheel out of corner.
I have 100% rear accelerate diff lock for months already, it’s good as long as your car has sufficient rear grip exiting slow corners. But not suitable for all cars as some car with high RADL value tend to power slide out of slow corners, such as Nissan GTR BNR33.
An interesting fact is, a 75%+ rear biased power distribution can improve mid speed cornering significantly and should be considered prior to the front differential locks. It makes your car behave more like RWD cars at the cost of the stability when accelerate out of low speed corners, I have to step on gas a bit later. I personally believe this is more related to your driving style and the track. Mid~high speed tracks would favor more rear biased power distribution, vice versa.
All in all, thanks for your generosity to share. For how much I am not interested in meta gaming, knowledges that can find and improve other non-meta cars are precious.
Editing: After further test, me and my friends found that high value for front accel diff on mid and rear engine car is good, while if a car has it's most amount of weight placed on the front axel, a low front accel diff value would be better.

One thing I'd like to know is good tuning for classic cars that don't change the way they look. I know it sounds silly but I don't like my Bel Air with massive spoilers and chunky ass bumpers. And I like to keep the white wall tyres.
I don't know a whole lot about tuning, very little really. It would be nice to just have an A class car with no body mods on it.

then just go for it -> in a class you can do pretty much whatever you want and win with little problems if you know what youre doing bc most peeps dont know what theyre doing.
in a-class you dont need awd or engine swaps, every sensible car will be usable without those modifications.
no body mods is something i actually rarely do but that lies within my choice of cars -> the lancia 037 and stratos just want their rally-bodykit, the rx7 loves the factory widebody etc. but i dont do rocketbunny or forza aero, that just looks dumb imo and forca aero makes you slower in a-class bc you dont need it at all

I build my cars based on these things :
    -power and speed
    -handeling
    -ease of driving
-long term usage (bassicly sound related)
I don't really look at weight since weight reductions are rather opurtinities instead of necessaties.
I rarely engine swap since... Well I sometimes call it a crime to change a good sounding engine. I would only consider engine swapping if it's absolutly necessary for the build I'm doing and if the engine I'm using to replace the old one is a logical change (for example putting a boxer engine in a BRZ and not putting in a viper v10 in a Ford GT...)
I do AWD swap however to make cars easier to drive since I need to be comfortable with the car in order to get myself confident and get most out of the car.
With long term usage, it's mostly about the engine sound. If I'm going to main a car, I need to be able to listen to it for a long period of time since bad sounds can really put me of and annoy me. This is where engine swapping could help.
The reason why I don't do "OP strategies and meta building" is because of an experience I had in a game called Yu-Gi-Oh duel links. Once I started playing ranked pvp with my own deck, I started winning a lot... Eventually my need to win became so big I turned extremely upset when I made a mistake or when someone was using meta cards and strategies against me... I took it to serious. My love of the game vanished because I wanted to win. And from that moment, I swore to only play games the right way : the way YOU want to play.

I dont even use awd at all. I think its purely disgusting. It makes the game trivial to the point that you barely even need to put in any skill and you still win.
Example. Im driving my 1100bhp p1. The thing wheelspins and wants to kick its tail out at any given opportunity. And im controlling it and stopping it from taking me f lying off the track, controlling its torque and wheelspin to keep it in the track. Now compare this to morons who barely have to try with awd, yet they have the same chance, if not more chance ofwinning as me... how tf is that fair?

This might work for cars like the tz2 and the 05 GT, but for most cars on this game putting all the downforce in the front maxed, and the downforce in the rear at minimum, it causes the back of the car to lift of the ground a whole lot. Same thing by putting the rear antiroll bars maxed and the front at minimum, even if you put the front at 15 and the rear at 50 it's still going to cause the car to lift off the ground. Theres no responsiveness to these tunes I've tried, with the true pressure 20 psi or lower , with everything else you're doing to the car , you're going to basically just be sliding all over the place while somewhat sticking to the ground, but it makes for a very unstable and unpredictable car. The Ford gt and tz2 need a ton of oversteer and turn in ability naturally. Tried this method on 3 other cars and tweaked it and it doesnt work well..
I created a gtr 95 nismo A class tune that destroys all those popular tz2 tunes on online racing..
I'm not trying to hate I just think you should specify that these numbers need to be tweaked a whole lot for other cars..
I would love to see some other tunes you have and the numbers you have on them. I'm just trying to understand your process!
    Thanks for the video.

I recently learned that there are secret parts that give crazy high boost numbers. I had to rethink a few of my AWD TwinT Drag tunes. For example the Supra RZ has a notorious 1600bhp single turbo build. I gave that engine my usual work, and it took about .1 of a second off my 0-60 time. .1 is small, but when the 0-60 time was already 0.9, it was significant to me.

Good summary of piecing together a build from one of the fastest racers. For anyone a bit thrown off by the values used here...there's no denying Johnson makes them work well. But using realistic tuning values is still a solid approach in FH4, and especially fun to drive with a wheel and/or no assists. The car just needs to be tuned to itself properly, which is challenging to do by hand.

3:01 when compare the AWD x RWD you need to install race transmission and race clutch on both you can't compare the super slow 5 speed+ overdrive of the GT with the race transmission that comes with drivetrain swap + on Manual transmission cars like Ford GT even If you Max upgrade the transmission gear shift still a little slower than gear shift of drivetrain swap
2:55 its just a fact, its less weight but less grip, less stability and terrible launch losing like 2 second burning tires instead of race
-AWD swap on mid/rear engine cars most times lower PI (lower more on semi/automatic transmission cars like every modern supercar)
-wider rear tires lower PI on AWDs while increase grip and stability
-Rally/Drag tires cost less PI on AWD than RWD(which makes no sense)
-Race Spoiler lower PI on AWD and this don't make sense because its a huge increase on stability(just lower downforce to minimun)
-Start of race give a very big advantage for AWDs
-The streets are full of stuff that fuck the RWD/FWD race, sidewalk and all this destructive stuff are 2WD killer
-About leaderbords the only RWDs on top i remenber are F40 on S2 and Monaco on S1(a piece of shit its literally a 1100 HP 1000 lb with no grip and massive acceleration) and online If theres a fast AWD that IS also a speed tune Mônaco will lose, on S1 you can use a Focus RS to beat a monaco and most cars can beat the F40C on S2
For you who want to compare drivetrains thats simple
Always upgrade to race transmission, race clutch, biggest rear tire and race spoiler

With Springs, dampers, sway bars, toe and differential i just tried and see what did handle best. Change one thing, test-drive and repeat until i find the best.
with camber i set it up so that after a few laps the tire inside, middle and outside have the same temperature in the telemetry (Wich should mean that whole tire is being used)
but now i know that Forza horizon 4 is not very realistic when it comes to the car's setup and i will start to try things that would be weird in reality.
The transmission i always set the first gear so that the car get just a little bit wheelspinn at launch (So that it isn't turning it's power into a smoke show that doesn't get you anywhere) then i change the last gear until i reach the highest top speed on the highway and then i put the gears so that after a shift i always land at the same rpm.

I would of never expected your tuning to be like that. For me it feels like your guys tunes are very loose which I would guess makes them fast.
In general I do everything mathematically. I'll take the weight distribution and multiple that by the max settings then add or subtract the same amount from both to find a base. Then from there fine tune to get the steering characteristics I like.
For example this is the tune I used for this weeks Trial.
    911 GT3 RS 2016
I generally go with as much weight reduction as I can in S1 and S2 classes.
I went with the stock engine. Twin turbo upgrade. Basically I go with what ever engine gives me the best HP to weight or best HP/Torque to weight ratio.
    The build ended up at
    931hp
    611 ft-lb
    2981
    41%
    3996.
My fine tuning and I've struggled to get 911s tuned right is.
    Tires 28. Psi
    Gearing 3.90
    2.45
    1.88
    1.48
    1.16
    .95
    .78.
    -camber -2.1 and -1.2
-2°front toe to help stabilize cornering
5.9 caster to make the car less twitchy
    Roll bars 27.22 /36.84
    Springs 751.2 /938.2
    Ride height 3.7/4.5
    Rebound 9.7/12.7
    Bump 5.0/6.5
Areo 260lb front and 562 back
    Breaks 55% 83
    Diff
    28%/15%
    60%/25%
    Center 65% rear.
I do some settings a bit differently cause I tend to allow my gearing slow me down a bit since I struggle to use a clutch on a controller.
I struggle most with breaking in hard breaking zones and with tires keeping contact during turns on unlevel ground. I found damping is what makes all the difference here.
    My final performance is
    0-60 1.893
    0-100 4.062. Not the best for S2 l
    Top speed 248
    99.3
    238.7
    1 32
    1.64.
I know the 911 is far from a great OP car but figured I'd use this weeks trial set up as an example how I tune.

    • @Johnson_Racing
      @Johnson_Racing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I also moved some of the braking to the back to help keep it from walking out and that seemed to help me with that car. I’m new to this and man I was frazzled trying to get that car half way stable without driving it like a glass house 😂. Since then I can hammer the brakes without it sliding out while barely tapping brakes in the corners like it was stock. I accomplished the trial with just suspension and braking after messing with it for hours of trying to figure out camber and braking aspects that finally didn’t make it react like a tilt-a-whirl ride!

Cause i came from racing simulations like Assetto Corsa and it is weird that i need to learn tuning again in horizon 4.

I used this on my ZL1 2017 Camaro and it works out! Still getting used to it haha but I like it! Any tips for getting better and turning and making the most efficient turns and exiting quickly out of them?

One thing I hate about Forza is how if you download a build and apply it you can't go in and just look at the settings or whatever since it'll remove it if you do. The build I put on my GT has 5 stars, but I'd like to see what exactly they did

Nice video, I tune pretty close to what you have. I learned it all by working sometimes a full day on a tune. And some cars I've went back and worked on more as I learned more. It's pretty depressing when you work that hard on tunes and share them and go back and look and 0 people use them. I have worked my ass off to get to rank 4 tuner. And I look at some that share tunes as soon as cars come out and auto get 5 stars and a shit load of downloads. My self if I want to drive a car and not tune it I look for low rank tuners and find one just as good. But i'm done ranting. lol Good vid, just wanted to see how much different mine was. pretty close to yours,

I real life it's about what upgrades you can afford. So normally it's the fuzzy dice and a Wunderbaum and that's it. Here's it's about min-maxing the numbers so that you get the best advantages without going over the class limit. I hate that in games. :(

I usually tune my car realistically and still get podiums regularly

Yup. The way its shown in this video causes the back end of a car to lift off the ground so much. Unless it's an 05 ford gt, or tz2, or some other car that is naturally stiff and long and low to the ground. This set up would not work at all on most cars, or in other words there are alot of other set ups that are better

Surprisingly sometimes the build makes the car a rally car too.

I'm really curious if those in your community adjust their advanced controller settings and want they maybe. That has a lot to do with how a tune works for each individual. I have mine set to be highly sensitive which is probably why I've struggled with some of the tunes you guys use.
I dont recall what they are exactly but I wanna say both my acceleration and braking are set to 15/30 and my steering is set to 20/40. 50.

I don't really feel a huge difference if I compare the stock settings to the ones in my controller settings video when I use our tunes. :)

Can you offer any explanation for why these things are so wildly different and even backward from real life setups?!?

Engine/drivetrain/aspiration swapping are the least PI efficient upgrades you can get on a car, unless you're jumping from A to S2 for instance or you have PI to burn - avoid that whole tab

thanks for this fabulous tutorial, but there is a slight disagreement about the race transmission. The ability to adjust every gear could let us make sure that each gear covers the full rpm range when the engine producing relative high torque, especially for those turbo charged engine that lose some torque at very high rpm. Thus, that would give the best acceleration the car can have.

Sure, it definitely increases the performance of your car. Most of the time, the performance/ cost ratio isn't worth it though. :)
