Donut Media proud 1988 GT owner here. I have owned one or another of these from the 84 four cylinder to my current (nearly) topped out 88GT. I would say for the most part Fiero were under rated. They were priced on average around a well equipped CRX or Corolla/Tercel but punched WELL ABOVE their weight. Consider the 0-60 times of then sports cars like 300ZX and RX-7’s. ... and all at a more reasonable maintenance price of local American Yankee-Doodle value!
My brother had a few of these growning up pretty sweet ass car.... but since we're on the subject can you do an up to speed on the Ford Thunderbird please it's like my favoritest car in the world

would be curious to know what you got & how the experience has been. Funny thinking Pontiac folded in 2010 when you what 7? That's pretty crazy. Growing up Pontiac always had some cool cars & I remember growing up in the 80s loving the Fiero as it was very Ferrari like & Magnum P.I. had a Ferrari, but I remember most adults thinking they were a joke. Rear engine, plastic, & so little. Wouldn't mind getting one to play around with.

To this day, still my favorite car company despite being defunct for 11 years or so. I do admire owners that keep their Pontiac vehicle on the road to this day, and some sick ass modifications on Trans Am/Firebird.
Have hope bud we brought Hummer back Pontiac may eventually although my friend working in the experimental department in Detroit said at this time Pontiac isnt. But. Never know.

Thanks for the video. I was in my teens during the Fiero's heyday. I loved the later Fieros especially the GT that had the PONTIAC lit up on the back. That was my favorite car for a couple years and I always wondered why production was discontinued. Now I know why.

My dad had a fiero. He said it was a real money pit compared to most of the other cars he owned through the years but was one of the most fun cars to drive.

Just stumbled across the channel, been watching a few videos, had to see if you covered the Fiero. My old man passed away this year and I received his Fiero that he drove for 20 years. For some reason he loved this strange, tragic Frankencar. I don't have the cash to restore the thing, but it's one of the few things I have to keep connected to him and I've developed a love for it as well.
I loved the Fiero GT, the only thing it lacked was power steering but that didn't matter most of the time. My Dad's friend had one that he would fix for him and he always let me test drive it. Really fun car!
Oh it definitely didn’t matter to me. I’m a twig and can steer it at a standstill.

The 1988 Fiero GT was a sick ride. They finally got it right and typical GM fashion they kill it.
Konformation07 they had a prototype 3.4 dohc one and kicked the corvettes ass so it was cancelled

I'm gonna remember the "pop up headlights" song as a defining moment for online videos. I get a warm nostalgia seeing it in its original video, and one day as an old man my great-grandchild will beam a VR mind-file into my head with this song and I'll start crying with joy and then die

Last year, I bought a 85 GT in really good condition. It had 123000 km on it. I drove 10000 km over 5 months from May to October and had no issues. The V6 has just enough power to make it fun to drive. No power steering or power brakes, but it’s got power windows. Figure that.

Everything you need to know about the fiero is that if your a good mechanic and comfy with swaps, is that a northstar fits in the back fairly easily.
As an owner of an 86' fiero, I am quite happy to see this video.

they only did that cuz the gear inside the motors are plastic and would wear out from contact with the metal worm gear, you can easily swap them for metal machined gears

I owned a '84 Pontiac Fiero. My wife's grandpa worked at GM and obtained the first year production model for his wife and she sold it to my wife for a fountain soda. It was fun to drive, but had 80,000 mile rated Firestones on it. Slid like a banshee. We had soooo many issues with the engine, in the shop 3 times till we had no money to put into it. My wife's father eventually bought it to fix it up, but ended up selling it later. I would love to get a restored one, but the GT instead of the first gen as it was very fun to drive. The speakers in the headrest were a riot, sounded like crap, but there was nowhere else to put em, LOL. Thanks for the vid!!

We have a 1986 Fiero 2M4, automatic, white and Alpine sound system. Bought new. For past 6 years "Best in Class" regional car shows.

Finnaly!!!!!!!! This was my first car. I know they get a lot of hate, but I love them so freaking much 💜 I rebuilt mine top to bottom, and eventually it'll be a full restomod on the stock engine.

I am on my 3rd Pontiac Fiero. I have an 84 with the iron duke, an 86 with the 6 cylinder, and an 87 GT with the manual. My special lady likes the Sunday drives to the lake in the cars.

I worked at a Pontiac dealership in 1988-1989 and our garage was FULL of replacement engines for the Fiero. Still fun as hell to drive.
When I was younger my mother for her daily driver had a Pontiac fiero. Long story short it was a Franken fiero. It had a fiero gt body, and interior, and since the original car got ran over by a truck the chassis was split in half and a half of a front fiero frame was welded to it, AND to add on to that the engine blew up a couple of months later and a Chrysler v6 was in its place. We don’t have the car now but it was an awesome car and it will be forever part of my childhood.

I remember it differently I used to collect easter eggs around two 1984 fieros sitting in her yard! And I’m 28 yrs old and this year 2020 I bought my first 84, that was swapped with a 2000. 3800gm engine but I still have to figure out the wiring harnesses but I can’t wait to get it complete
My first car ever, in 1991, was an 86 GT with the five speed, which was released mid 1986 model year. What a fun car that was to drive. Since then I've had a Porsche 944,.a 945S, a 2001 Corvette Z06 yet I still miss that fiero...
If GM had given Pontiac enough to do the Fiero right there first time, we would still have Pontiac.

@@wvusmc Buick makes way more money than Pontiac. The Chinese market alone for Buick probably makes a large chuck of what Pontiac did globally. If Pontiac was given enough money then we could still have both companies maybe despite the recession as Pontiac could have started a new "pony car" war with a properly build Fiero, even with the Iron Duke base engine, because it was a great engine just not a performance engine.
I worked with Mr. Aldikacti back in the eighties. Very no nonsense guy and highly intelligent. Much respect for this legend.

A runner is someone who runs mail back and forth to different buildings, long before the internet. I worked my way up a bit since then but still nothing to brag about : ) I really did work with him. My friend had a Fiero with a Chevy small block in it. Insane doesn't even begin to describe it.
When my father autocrossed in the 80s, there was a man who raced a v8 fiero and that thing would fly!! It took him a couple years playing with the suspension, but it was a very competitive in his class...

My Dad used to race SCCA, and he was at the same track on which GM was testing the GT prototype Fiero with a high performance V6. The GM team told him that it out-perfomed the Corvette in every way, so GM chose to stick with the standard V6 instead. Still, a very fast little car. Also, I remember a magazine article from the 90's indicating many of the 4 cylinder fires were traced to a cut-rate connecting pin that saved GM a few cents per part.
Thanks for showing the fiero love, my first car was a 87 white fiero gt. Ran like dogshit but it was my favorite car even still. RIP to her though. I was too young to work on it and know what I was doing so it died. But the memories will always live on

I owned an 86 SE. Besides the car having the turning radius of a cruise ship, the power of a VW Bug, peeling 3 year old paint and recalls for years, I liked it and would love an 88 GT today. The SE's redeeming trait was the spacey and efficient interior with headrest speakers!

Delorean, Countach and Testarossa are the 80's icons. You can make arguments for others, but it starts at 4th place.

Agreed! The muscle/sports car market has gotten stale. Flaming Fieros aside, they were such innovators when it came to performance vehicles.

I remember the fiero being one the nicest cars that came out of pontiac. Especially the GT version. It had a similar styling to the 3rd generation trans am GTA. Which i hope you do a video of. Its my favorite car of all time.

@Gabriel Lobo what about the powertrain? I knew that a few parts here and there were different but as far as I know they share the same engine, trans, and diff.

@@CaptainRudy4021 well the earlier 1st and 2nd gen T/A's had their own Pontiac engines separate from the Camaro's, also the suspension on the Trans Ams were supposed to be a lil different. Tbh I'm just waiting to see if James would make any smokey and the bandit/ Knignt Rider references, to the T/A's movie car stardom.
This is one of the best looking cars of all time. I also love the project guys name that is turkish and translates to "grab 'n' run". What a cool video.
I had a 1987 fiero I straight piped it and drifted it all over my little town when it rained and I lived about 2 hours away from the fiero junkyard and drove there many times in my fiero to grab parts for it it was one of my favorite cars I’ve owned growing up

I lol'd at the thumbnail because the Fiero actually caught on fire on some models but I totally loved how it looks, put a 200+hp and 5+speed tranny and turbo or super charger in it and it'll sing!
