Bought my first last weekend, VE Commodore but sold as a Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK. 6.2 LS3 with 495hp now. Absolutely love it, will never tire of the noise!!
While watching this i'm on a 500 mile road trip headed back home from Kansas City right now in my "new to me" 2017 hot red metallic Chevy SS with the manual 6-speed... I could not be happier with this car...
Never realised how much I need a Maloo in my life. That thing is SIK looking. Although I wouldn't turn down a GTO, G8, SS, or especially a Caprice PPV.
bruh idk, I get that he's loud, but other times I've watched episodes of this show from a couple years ago and they seem a little monotone and boring compared to the recent episodes so I'm kind of enjoying it rn. Am I the only one?
I once met Leo Pruneau, he came to our winery as a friend of a friend of my dad's. He was a pretty nice bloke. I didn't realise at the time who he was though, otherwise I would have fanboyed myself to death.

I'm an Aussie living in the USA and this video was effin awesome!! You lads made a couple of flubs with the HP figures of the A9X Torana and Walkinshaw Commodore, but well done regardless. Which Holden is my favourite? Easy, the HSV Maloo Ute. I wish the USA would drop that 25-year import regulation bollocks so I can import an RHD Maloo Ute for my very self :)
@@lukedodge3262 Well aware of lefthandutes.com but the price is out of my league for a Maloo... nothing personal... and, I would prefer RHD to keep it authentic.

Holden is my favourite dead car builder. So many good cars, and I'm glad we got the ability to see some come across the Pacific to North America. The G8 and SS are my favourite sedans, The Monaro/GTO is amazing, and I love their mentality of put more horsies in the hood. We'll miss you Holden. Glad Forza introduced you to me.
Noticed a few mistakes. It was Tom WALKINSHAW Racing, not Tom Wilkenshaw. Tom Walkinshaw Racing owned Arrows Formula One team for a number of years, and won Le Mans with factory backed Jaguars. Also, the Group C A9X had 400bhp. The horsepower figure you stated was for the road version.

I'm Aussie and I think we've not made good cars for 30+ years. Fuck Holden honestly. When they started making big heavy slow cars and protested the rules of group 3A (now supercars) so that smaller foreign cars wouldn't keep wiping the floor with them (specifically Skylines), they lost any insentive to improve their cars and just kept making big heavy whales with big heavy engines to make up for it.
As an Aussie, and former Holden owner, I'm watching this with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes... RIP Holden BTW, it's Walkinshaw. Also, the Group A SS 'Walky' was affectionately known as 'the plastic pig' LOL
@Boyd Oops i forgot about that detail 🤦♂️🤣. My idea doesn't suck but it would totally suck if lower priced cars were FIAT powered, look at the Dart and Neon they all suck.
mate!!!!!!!!! you got no idea how much i enjoyed your video.the way you spun the holden story is so captivating.thanks heaps and may the holden name live on.cheers from the GOLDIE on QUEENSLAND,STRAYA
Great work. Covered it very well. FYI, in 1986, it was the introduction of Unleaded Fuel rather than 91 Octane that caused the switch to Nissan engines. After that, the YEN got too high and then Holden chose the Buick 3.8 (One of the most durable motors out there) as a replacement for the RB30.
I second that the ecotec is one of the most durable, mine sits on limi more than it doesn’t and compression is perfect all round and you wouldn’t even know it
3.8 ecotech is based on buick engine, apparently first commodores did have buick engines, however Holden got the blueprints for the engine & built & further developed the engines in Australia
We do also have whip birds whose song is just ethereal, and lyre birds who are the most talented vocalists on the planet (they can mimic anything from chainsaws to an orchestra), among others. Not EVERYTHING wants to kill you or scare you out of your mind XD
The HSV VF GTSR W1 was the last edition of the HSV, instead of the LSA it came with an LS9 engine with more kangaroo powers. There were only 275 built, most of them are tucked away in people’s garages, appreciating in price. Awesome video!
I am an American and because of the Mad Max movies in the 1980's I grew up loving Australian muscle cars in the history of Australian muscle. Commodore, Monaro, Torana, Sandman, Falcon, Landau Coupe, Panel Vans....like the Sandman and XB and XC Falcon Panel Vans. What I would give to move to Australia and live the rest of my days in Australia like the gentleman who started the Mad Max 2 Museum.
Great video. BTW it's Tom "Walkenshaw" Racing. Despite being an Aussie Ford fan, I respect Holden and its ventures. They made some very cool cars. The Sandman is lights out amazing! Holden also assembled the Japanese Izuzu compact sedan called the "Holden Gemini" which is a cult classic in Oz. Welded locked differentials, rear drive compact sedans with engines that LOVED a flogging were so much fun to drive. There needs to be a Video on the Gemini ❤
I remember when they rolled the last Holden off the line, I cried, an Australian institution gone, history, icons and something to call our own, gone. Our great sport of V8 Supercars gone, no longer is it Holden Vs Ford, possibly the biggest rivalry in Australia, (along with state of origin) it’s now full of imports. Long live Holden ❤️
I bought a VL for $300 when I moved back to Australia in 2005. I must say, I was impressed be the Nissan 6 engine it had. I only got rid of it after nearly 2 years cause it was just not worth the fuel and insurance plus it was rusted in places and I was not really sure how many more times I could pass inspection as smoke had started as well to come out. Wish I had a place of my own to work on it to keep it alive. But I gave her to a mate to fix his broken one. I wish I had taken photos of it when I had it as well.

Ford vs Holden man was dangerous 😁 you either love one and hate the other. I like both tbh, (edging more to Holden). Holden where the first to stop the dominance of American Trans-Am (Allan Moffat's Mustang and Bob Jane's Camaro) with its Holden Monaro, then Ford dominated with its XW-XY GTHO's and XC Cobra's until a pesky little Holden Torana (XU-1 GTR and A9X) came with a dominant drivers in Peter Brock and Larry Perkins. After the 70's, the 80's it was the big bad Ford's (specifically a green one) and the Opel/Holden Commodores (VK) that where very fast and successful. One thing I love about Ford is the XA GTHO, one thing I love about Holden is the HSV W1.

While watching this i'm on a 500 mile road trip headed back home from Kansas City right now in my "new to me" 2017 hot red metallic Chevy SS with the manual 6-speed... I could not be happier with this car...
It's sad that the car was underrated.. hell I was underrating my boss 2006 Pontiac GTO till he let me drove it... now I have a 04

@@D3nn1s Well, he said hot red metallic. So, yes you should mention it.
Such a shame that GM didn’t market the SS properly, like it or not it was far superior to their local US products. Now it is no more...

Hell yes!! Thank you for doing an episode on Holden! You've done Australia proud.

I read this with a heavy Australian accent
Lads .... I'm here to tell you ... you CAN import a Ute into the US ... Left-hand Utes in Colorado can get you what you want!!!!
@@lukedodge3262 Well aware of lefthandutes.com but the price is out of my league for a Maloo... nothing personal... and, I would prefer RHD to keep it authentic.
What this 25 year import tariff? Is it some stupid require that the vehicle be 25 years old before it can be imported here, or what exactly?
@@TheCriminalViolin it's a import regulation ... any vehicle not sold in the US has to be 25yrs or older If the vehicle is at least 25 years old, there are no EPA compliance requirements uponimportation. A motor vehicle that is at least25 years old can be lawfully imported into theU.S. without regard to whether it complies with all applicable DOT Federal Motor VehicleSafety Standards (FMVSS).
I rewatch this every couple of months, the energy and lightning is hilarious!

Every Aussies loves a good Holden and I love donut so I'm glad you finally did something about them
I'm Aussie and I think we've not made good cars for 30+ years.
RIP Holden
BTW, it's Walkinshaw. Also, the Group A SS 'Walky' was affectionately known as 'the plastic pig' LOL

The RB engine choice was due to the introduction of unleaded petrol and phasing out of leaded fuels, not the octane rating.
Rippa vid anyway mate.
Thanks for clarification. I had to look that up to see why an octane rating would be mandated. I found that unleaded fuel was actually mandated.
@@SP_EH444 91 is actually our lowest octane, the other two are 91 and 98 although Shell make a 100 oct but it's very hard to come by.

I second that the ecotec is one of the most durable, mine sits on limi more than it doesn’t and compression is perfect all round and you wouldn’t even know it
And thus the VL turbo became the greatest commodore ever.
3.8 ecotech is based on buick engine, apparently first commodores did have buick engines, however Holden got the blueprints for the engine & built & further developed the engines in Australia
I died at the Nissan phone call convo 😂🤣☠️☠️☠️
The A9X Torana for Holden and the Ford Falcon Cobra XC. They're the ones that stick out for me.

The HSV VF GTSR W1 was the last edition of the HSV, instead of the LSA it came with an LS9 engine with more kangaroo powers. There were only 275 built, most of them are tucked away in people’s garages, appreciating in price. Awesome video!
Sad that we don’t make anymore cars here anymore
Can you do the falcon as well please was the arch rival of commodore!
It’s WALKINSHAW
NOT WALKENSHAW
First generation Geminis had up to 49kW... Second generation had up to 56kW. (about 70hp)
They were underpowered trash.

It may rise again.
I love my G8 GT. Forever thankful for Holden ❤️

I have a feeling half the comments are going to be Aussie ford fan boys saying do a ford Aus vid next. (I like both btw)
@Zombtroll I like both but the Barra engine is just too nice like the V8's put down power but the Barra is just a work of art
