Instead of connecting the 2 red wires from the switch to the harness, connect the red wire that is next to the green to the blue. Then connect the other red wire (next to black) from the switch to a wire that goes to the headlights or the fuse in the fuse box. Then the black goes to the black and the green goes to the white. Now when you turn on your lights the switch will turn on with the dash lights and when you turn on the LED light the symbol on the switch will turn on brighter than the lettering. I did this yesterday to my 2017 Tacoma TRD and it works just like that.

Hi - where should we connect the red wire (that is next to the black wire) so that the background illumination of this newly installed switch dims (and brightens)?
When we cycle through the different brightness levels by using the 'Instrument Panel Light Control Switch', then the illumination brightness of the other switches in the panels increase or decrease.

Hot Tip: If using a 3 wire Baja Designs basic harness- black on black, green on red, 2 reds on red/white stripe. Got lucky and nailed it the 1st try.

Used this as a guide for my install. Actually was very useful. Little tip; if you’re trying to get the wire through the firewall, there’s a grommet you can take out on the drivers side right by the brake booster. Remove it, straighten a metal hanger, poke it through the fire wall, keep one end out, and tape it to the wiring coming from the light. I used electrical tape to secure it. Then, either cut the insulation or yank it through it. Also, you don’t have to remove the lower dash to do this part. However to install the factory-style button, removing the lower dash is the easiest way to install it if not the only way. But overall, SUPER easy install. Did it in less than an hour.

All I want to know is this:
    (edited)
What function is the Blue wire? (relay trigger when 12V is applied)
What function is the White wire? (+12VDC from the fuse; constant)
What function is the Black wire? (ground)
    Here is the answer:
Blue and Black go to the coil of the relay, posts 85 and 86 respectively. Black is common ground for the entire system. To energize the relay, +12v must be applied to relay post 85 (the blue wire).
White goes to post 30 on the relay, the switch side. White is connected to the red that comes from the fuse at relay post 30. You should show +12v on the white.
Your switch needs to connect white with blue to turn on the lights. Minimally, that is all that is required to operate the lights.
Black is there as a return for the lights on your switch.

Great video! I just ended up pulling off the wiring harness switch and crimping on insulated spade connectors to the OEM style switch. No cutting required. Just had some excess wiring that was easy to secure under the hood. No more than the excess I had to secure from the light bar to the relay. Also, I ended up tapping the 2nd red wire to the green wire on the bed light switch and now I have power when the dash lights are on and off when the truck is off. However, it doesn’t dim. If I wanted the switch to dim, I would tap the ground/black wire from the light bar switch to the tan wire on the bed light switch.

Great straight forward instructions. This will wire the switch and lamp to turn on wether or not the Truck is on. I rather like to have the light bar go of when I turn off the truck. In my harness, the White wire is constant hot from the battery, The blue is the return from the switch to power the relay, in turn powering the light bar, Black is ground on both.
On the switch side, the green is power in, the reds are power out and backlight, the black is ground
On the harness side, I capped the white wire and heatshrink so it never shorts (or you can be used for a constant battery source for something else),
The Blue wire to the combined reds.
    The black to black
The green from the switch to a "add a fuse" lead Throw a 5 amp fuse and slip into the USB 7.5A slot in the underdash fuse box. Will come on wether the truck is in ACC mode or fully on.
This is just a suggestion and what I did for my truck, the validity is only based on the wiring of the harness (that the white is wired constant hot and the blue is return), please consult a certified mechanic/electronics tech for best results.
By the way, this light bar is very high quality and throws light exactly where I needed it. Thanks!!

This was great. To get the lights to work with the interior I followed an easy trick. I took the red wire and attached it to the peach wire that is on the door off on switch. Too find it I turned on the interior lights and then took the wire and stuck it in the back of that connector until it turned on. Then I stripped and connected.

Warning: This switch is 3amps rated. It should always be wired through a fused relay. Otherwise the switch might melt and/or cause fire.

    PSA:
If you receive a harness with 4 wires (Black, Blue, White, and RED), tape off the red wire after cutting it and hook up the harness to the switch as directed in the video. This is what they directed me to do after calling them. The lightbar works and is connected after taking these steps. Basically ignore that extra red wire as it was for the switch we disconnected.

I have a 2023 Toyota Tundra XP package. I install a Diode Dynamics light bar on the front grill. Then I purchased a Cali Raised OEM light bar switch to install it so I can have a OEM light on /off switch for the light bar. Some rep from Cali Raised told me that the 2022+ switch that they sell will fit my 2024 Tundra. The problem is that the switch comes with 5 cables and the Diode Dynamics light bar harness has 3 cables that plug to the switch that comes with the light bar. I thought the Cali Raised switch was gonna be plug and play but it's not. So I am trying to find help on how to install the Cali Raised switch to a Diode Dynamics light bar. Can you help with this?

Hey guys I have a question. I have a '14 Tacoma Access Cab. On my light panel I have the upper panel closest to the vent. On the left is the factory switch for the vehicle fog lamps. The middle one, which I just replaced and it was a "true" blank and put in the switch for my ditch lights. The third and last switch blank isn't really a blank. When I pulled it out it had connector on the back with a bunch of wires running out from it. Do you have any idea what this does? I'm asking because I'm putting more lights on the truck and I really don't want to have to drill into my dashboard. Can you or anyone on here provide any insight? Thanks in advance.

Any tips on how to connect a dual switch? I have the dual light bar with a dual harness and I’m trying to figure out how to connect the harness to the OEM dual switch. Please help, it will be greatly appreciated.

    • @CaliRaisedLED
      @CaliRaisedLED  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There are two ways you can wire your dual function bar depending on how you would like it to operate.
      TWO WIRE HARNESSES:
**Controlling Amber & White Lights Independently**
If you want to control the amber and white separately then you will need 2 harnesses. With the 2 harnesses, this gives you the ability to run the Amber/White lights individually or all at the same time.
The LED bar will have 3 wires on it. BLACK, WHITE, GREEN
      BLACK: Ground
WHITE: Power For The White LED's
GREEN: Power For The Amber LED's
The harness will have DT Plugs at the end. You will want to remove those plugs as they are not needed.
After the plugs are removed there will be red and black wires exposed. between both harnesses, you will have 2 red wires and 2 black wires.
You will want to connect the 2 black wires together and connect them to the black wire on the LED bar, Then one red to the white and the other red to green. That will give you the ability to run the lights independently.
      ONE WIRE HARNESS:
      **Controlling ALL Lights At Once**
If you are wanting the full bar to turn on/off at once and not be able to control it separately then you would just need one harness. Remove the plug from the harness. Connect the black wire from the LED bar to the black wire on the harness. Then combine the green and white wire on the LED bar to connect to the red on the harness.

Yes, You are correct. You cannot cycle through the modes without turning the light on and off.

My single leg LED harness came with a blue, black, white and red wire. How the hell do I connect that to the OEM switch. Is the red wire just extra?

    • @Burgeeerrrz

      I called them:
They told me to tape off the red wire coming from the relay and hook up the wires from the switch to the relay the same as the video says. I did this and the light bar is working properly.
My only concern is the wires are a lot smaller in these new harnesses than they used to be compared to the old one u i bough 14 months ago. Not sure why the change was made but hopefully it doesn't burn up the puny wires during long extended use.

10grSTi Sorry it’s been a while since I did this mod. I don’t remember how I eventually got it to work. I did blow one fuse trail an error which Isn’t a big deal. Just buy some extra fusses just in case.

    Black to black ,
The red wire closes to the black wire on the switch harness DO NOT CONNECT.
Red wire from switch harness to the blue or white .
Green wire from switch harness to red.
This will make oem switch to turn on when lights are on.

Why, why, why do you not show how to wire so that it lights and dims with the rest of the dash lights? Why would I want one switch that looks and works differently from the rest!?!

these guys are going to get sued. the wires are almost melting hot, no instructions, you have to email them for this "diagram" instead of it being readily available. My installer has been doing this for 20 years and laughing at the gauge of this trash they send. These guys are gonna smoked real soon if they keep sacrificing quality for a few pennies.
