Been doing a lot of research on installing aftermarket fog lights. It turns out if you're not running the power to the lights through a relay you're running the risk of wiring to the switch overheating and possibly causing a fire.
I don't know if you have to go through the process of taking the dash off like you did. But you can also just pop out that little panel with a flat head screwdriver, then pop it back into place once you're finished.
The palm spring critics of your vid need to spend their precious knowledge w a time consuming vid of their own Thanks again You R the only one in a dozen how tos to show and tell clearly the connection rewire between supplied harness 3 wire and push switch 4 wire That in itself is worth cali cool raised and ch4x4 to pay you
I tried to get an OEM switch for my air compressor to place where the ECT power goes (6mt) and accidentally bought the long style instead of the smaller style. Where your light bar switch is, I have a clutch start cancel switch. Up top for me is a coin slot that I’m going to remove. For some reason I thought I could just remove that upper portion of dash by pulling. Thank you for saving me from breaking stuff 😂 didn’t realize there were bolts at the bottom
A lot of vids tell you to take apart your dash just like this. There's a way simpler way. Just use a butter knife or soft edge body tool and work your switch blank out working slowly top to bottom and back. Then just pop in your switch and connect.
Best video on putting in an OEM switch that I have found. Hooking it all up without the extra wire then testing it is key.. then the extra wire is the top symbol. sweet ! All the other ones i watched had them all hooked up and some crossed the wires. You got it right and filmed it right. Thanks man ! I'm doing this in the next few days. Just waiting on some wire loom :- )
Just curious to if the 3rd gen switches would fit in a 2nd gen because I’m wanting the ones that look like the factory ones but can’t seem to find one like the 3rd gen switches?
Great video! How did you tie into the dash board light circuit that turns on the light for the switch when you interior lights come on? Did you tie into one of the main switches?
The one by the green wire is the output power for the device. The other red is the dash light. Not necessary if you don't want it. I tie it into the dash light wiring.
My 8 light C2 RGBW LED rock lights kit came with blue, brown,yellow/green strip would you happen to have any clue what colors go to what cor on OEM switch ?
Great video! Any ideas for this situation? I hate the parking backup and blind spot monitor switches on my Highlander 2016. I don't know why they have these switches. Many times I have backed up and not realized that someone (car wash folks maybe) inadvertently turned off the parking switch. Luckily I did not back up too far. Same for blind spot monitor. Point being I would like to remove the ability for these two switches to be turned off and just have them permanently in the On position. Any ideas? I guess I could remove panel and wire them in the back to be on making the switch inoperable. Or I could turn them on and leave them in the back of the panel and replace their spot with a blank. Guess these switches cannot be popped out of the front without removing the panel right? Thanks for any ideas and thanks for video
My oem switch said that it has to be operated through an installed relay or else it would melt but every video I see using the same cheapo oem switches are directly connecting them to the light power and ground wires. Have you or anyone else you know had any issues doing it how you did?
Hey brother I have a question. I have a '14 Tacoma Access Cab. On my light panel I have the upper panel of 3 switches closest to the vent. On the left is the factory switch for the vehicle fog lamps. The middle one, which I just replaced and it was a "true" blank and put in the switch for my ditch lights. The third and last switch blank isn't really a blank. When I pulled it out it had connector on the back with a bunch of wires running out from it. Do you have any idea what this does? I'm asking because I'm putting more lights on the truck and I really don't want to have to drill into my dashboard. Can you or anyone on here provide any insight? Thanks in advance.
Hey man . I install mine today same as your OEM switch but it keeps on even if my truck is not running . Iam afraid if its gonna drain my battery. Looking forward for your opinion ✌🏻🤙🏻
@@TacoRick switch works great . My concern is the blue back light is still on even if my truck is not running . Now my question is ,is it gonna drain my battery ?🤷🏼♂️
@@TacoRick First; thank you for all your videos, very helpful. Second; I installed the OEM switch as you did and the blue backlight stays on. Vehicle shut off, blue back light on. What are your thoughts?
I dont understand why the light bar icon on my switch will not turn off, even after the light bar is off, along with everything else on the car. Its pretty upsetting that I went through all this work to not have the button work right. Please help
Great video! However, removing the entire lower dash to get to the switch panel is unnecessary. This video will show you how to pry out the switch panel- th-cam.com/video/i5un69_YhPw/w-d-xo.html
Too bad you glossed over the dash light connection, that's the step that everyone else on the yootoobs seems to skip, too.

it is not clear to me where you wired the fourth red wire?
I don't know if you have to go through the process of taking the dash off like you did. But you can also just pop out that little panel with a flat head screwdriver, then pop it back into place once you're finished.
There is no need to do 90% of the work he does on this video to install that button
I just did a light bar install. No need to remove the lower dash. Just pop out the panel with the switches.
Thanks

Yes this guy is clueless on doing this kind of work

Great video. I am saving for the down payment on a 2021 or 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I live in a state that Light Bars are 100% Needed for Winter.
Best video I’ve seen yet
Big Taco Rick!! I appreciate you showing me how to take apart the panels.
All your videos are very informational and easy to learn from, keep up the great work
Awesome video. Gonna install my mictuning rock lights soon. Yes I'm gonna replace that switch with the mictuning switch.....!!

Tremendous installation. Where can I get the switch at the bottom horizontally to turn lights on and off. thanks for your help
I’d love to see you do a CB radio install. You’re videos have been so helpful with all the mods. Thanks!
Good video. Helped me on figuring out the connections between the new switch wiring harness and the leads for the Rocklights.
Very informative. Nice truck.
How did you figure out which wire goes to the dash light?
Wondering the same thing
Just curious to if the 3rd gen switches would fit in a 2nd gen because I’m wanting the ones that look like the factory ones but can’t seem to find one like the 3rd gen switches?
Nice informative tutorial. Best I have seen. Thanks for the help
That panel with the switches pops right off with a plastic tool. I did the same job by just popping it off.
Thank you for that wiring tips. What color is the one that happened for the lights the dome light
Good video, now I need to figure out what I want to use a switch for hehe👍🏼
Just wanted to say thank you
That’s what I want to know is the other red wire for the dash light where do I connect the other red wire?
Great video! How did you tie into the dash board light circuit that turns on the light for the switch when you interior lights come on? Did you tie into one of the main switches?
The green wire going to all the other switches is for dash lighting. I just tapped into the near by switches wire
@@TacoRick Hey Rick. How did you know which wire to tap into for the parking lights or running lights?
Yes, can u let us know which wire to tap from the near oem switch to power acc.?
Great video & explanation. Thanks
You can pull that side panel out directly with a plastic pry tool. it clips in. Also good luck with your future cab fire lol. USE RELAYS.
Very helpful
Can you make a video on phone mounts?
Check my top Amazon purchases. Its in that list.
So what did the extra red wire go to?
The one by the green wire is the output power for the device. The other red is the dash light. Not necessary if you don't want it. I tie it into the dash light wiring.
Good videos bro you get straight to the point ad very helpful 👍🏻
Great video man. Could you clarify which wire I need to tap off of in the bundle to get the backlight to work on the switch?
Can't remember. I used a volt meter and turned the dash lights on and off to find it
This is the only thing I came here for and didn’t get clarification lol
@@afallenbaumme too 🤷♀️
You just plug it into power? Won’t that kill your battery if you forget it on?
Another good video, sucks that amazon got rid of the Zombie Lights button
Which wire do you tap into for the dash lights?
That’s what I’m wondering too? He dint show it
Where did you get the power going to the green wire?
The power wire comes direct from the battery.
I just put one in my truck, same company and it doesn't fit flush. Did you trim your accessory switch pannel to fit it
My 8 light C2 RGBW LED rock lights kit came with blue, brown,yellow/green strip would you happen to have any clue what colors go to what cor on OEM switch ?
No i dont
How do you know what power wire to tap into for switch backlight when off?
Voltage tester.
Quick question, do the lights only turn on with acc and the key or will they turn on with the vehicle off using those switches?
Since it's wired to the battery you can turn them on with the vehicle on or off at any time
Sup man. How do you keep her clean during the winter? Same process as the warmer months?
I use touch less washes in between bigger washes. In the winter I mostly do touchkess unless I get a warm day that u am free to clean it
@3:11 what do you tow? What’s the weight? I’m thinking about adding one too. Thanks
12 by 6 enclosed trailer. Not sure weight but its steel and heavy duty gauge

Yeah depends how the switch is wired but should be able to do so. And unfortunately yes you will have to take the dash off
What about the center console under the ac knobs?
I got my button all hooked up and it works to turn my ditch lights on but the button itself doesn’t glow
Have to hook that other red wire into the power from the other dash lights.
My oem switch said that it has to be operated through an installed relay or else it would melt but every video I see using the same cheapo oem switches are directly connecting them to the light power and ground wires. Have you or anyone else you know had any issues doing it how you did?
No issues 2 years running
The red wire for the dash light, where did you connect it to??
Any green wire running to the other switches.
Thanks Man🤙🏼
Hey taco rick! Where did you get your zombie light OEM switch from??
Amazon

Could be pre-wired for the feature that a switch going there would do. In that case the wires are not being used. But no clue
Good video. Like your name too!
Hey man . I install mine today same as your OEM switch but it keeps on even if my truck is not running . Iam afraid if its gonna drain my battery. Looking forward for your opinion ✌🏻🤙🏻
The switch works even if the truck is off but if the switch is off no power should be going anywhere.
@@TacoRick switch works great . My concern is the blue back light is still on even if my truck is not running . Now my question is ,is it gonna drain my battery ?🤷🏼♂️
It should not be on? Mine is only on if the dash lights are on or of course if the switch is on.

I dont understand why the light bar icon on my switch will not turn off, even after the light bar is off, along with everything else on the car. Its pretty upsetting that I went through all this work to not have the button work right. Please help
You can just popped out the panel where the switches are without disassembling half car
Bro I just installed the switch and a blue light from the little truck it's on all the time?
Depends how you wired it. Sounds like you hooked it up to a constant power source instead of the dash lights power input
How did you get your Rock light switch inside ?
See the rock light install video. Went through a grommet in the fire wall behind the dash. Pretty easy to get to.
I followed this and now my rock lights not turning on
