Endometriosis is not normal uterine function, though. It is the exact opposite of normal uterine function, because uterine lining is growing outside the uterus, where it absolutely is there to hurt you.
Yea…… I almost got hospitalized due to how painful it was. Please, anyone, don’t make fun of the pain. Some people really do get bad cramps. To the point they have to go to the er.
i used to throw up and pass out on the floor because of the pain i saw a doctor and they prescribed me birth control luckily it has worked i still get small cramps every now and then but it’s way better than throwing up

Funny enough, though, last time it happened I was already at a hospital for a minor thing and almost freaking passed out right before I was leaving the room. 2.3 psi is roughly equivalent to the pressure at the bottom of 1.6 meters of water. So the device could have pushed water up a tube that high which would have been neat.
That's interesting. I would have expected it would be less since in a bike tire there's anywhere between 20psi to 120psi (depending on the tire volume and some other factors.) But the pressure under water makes it very easy to literally get a feeling for how much pressure that really is
@@sebastianjost - Yeah, but supporting a load with air pressure or pushing liquids through a pipe are different things. The tires support your entire weight, and the bike itself, with only a few square inches of rubber touching the ground. I think you'd calculate how many square inches using... weight divided by PSI? But to move water uphill, you only need a higher PSI than the weight of the water itself.
The pain I experience on my first day is so unnecessary for how much actually comes out. Like dude it's not that big a deal I don't need to be knocked to the floor dry heaving once a month just to push out some tissue and blood. I think if I got pregnant I'd give birth in like 2 contractions given how intense my cramps are.

Considering the shear number of reports of "Foreign objects" that somehow manage to "accidently" get lodged in that location (and others nearby), I really would not question that all that much. What you said is true for a lot of medical conditions. Once a certain discomfort becomes a regular occurrence, your baseline what you consider normal starts to shift. And then you get diagnosed with terminal cancer just because you forgot what healthy is supposed to feel like. You always have to advocate for yourself when talking to a doctor. Don't downplay your problems, even if you got used to living with them.
I had to go to the ER begging for actual death every 2 or 3 months from such bad cramps. Throwing up everything for days, embarrassing myself in school. On pills now and only get rare pain. It is amazing to have my life back from a simple sip of water each morning.
For me I don't have really bad cramps (or maybe I do and my idea of pain is just really skewed) I get really bad heartburn. Constantly. I've forgotten what it feels like to not be in pain. I keep a log of when it gets really bad so that I can show my doctor, but I keep forgetting to bring it up. I think I remembered once around when it started, there wasn't a diagnosis they just gave me some strong antiacids that I took for 7 days and then knce those 7 days were over I had my worst heartburn so far. I couldn't move and it felt like I was imploding. It lasted 3 hours of me just staying still, taking antiacids, drinking water occasionally, and being in lots of pain
I remember researching periods for my health class and coming across a study where there were women who experienced cramps on the same pain scale as a heart attack.
I've heard, anecdotally, that a lot of women don't notice heart attacks because they're so accustomed to intense period pain and the heart attack pain is more mild. I don't know if it's true but I'd believe it. I've always had terrible cramps that cause me to be sick and/or pass out, and I have an extremely high pain tolerance normally. It's hard for me to imagine something hurting more. I've neglected broken bones before because I thought I was just feeling sore or maybe bruised because it doesn't hurt nearly as much as period cramps.

Such a nice way to visualize something so horrible. My period cramps are not that bad, as I get a lot of pain in my thighs instead, but I have friends that have a really hard time with cramps.
There aren't a lot of pain sensing nerves around the organs so "gut" pain can commonly appear outside of the gut, like in the back, arms, or legs. It's called referred pain and it's why people often feel heart attacks as arm pain. So your thigh pain probably is cramps, just referred to your thighs!

I've kept a period diary for years. I also have PCOS. Things I've noticed that make my periods suck less: 1. Making sure I'm hydrated. For the love of god, drink water. This makes such a difference. 2. Eat healthy. I've recently switched to a low-carb diet/lifestyle, and it helps so much with my inflammation and bloating. I'm also vegetarian, but have been since before I started my period, so, not sure what effect that has, if any. 3. I try to exercise a little bit every day, except when I'm on my period. My period goes from 0 to 1000000 pretty quickly, and so does my pain level, so exercise is impossible. I can barely walk most days :( The more weight I've put on over the years, the worse my period has gotten. I'm actively working to lose as much weight as I possibly can. 4. Eating plenty of dietary fiber. I tend to get constipated really bad for the first few days of my period, so increasing my fiber intake helps with that and stops the abdominal cramps. If anybody has any other things they've tried that work, please reply. I'm constantly trying to improve my quality of life :)
I don't have PCOS, just dysmenorrhea. Things that help me are: BenGay/IcyHot/etc rubbed on your abdomen may help a little. I always try to have some. I've read that increasing the amount of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet helps. Some studies have even been done that show promise. Back when I was diligent about taking my supplements I did notice a difference. Anecdotal accounts say that soy products can help. It has helped me. But I would be cautious with that. Some people say it actually INCREASES pain. So ymmv.

SCHEDULED PAIN omg I've never heard someone refer to it as such but I'm going to start using it. "Sorry, I can't next week, I've got some scheduled pain from the 24th to the 31st"
A better way to think of PSI, is to find a weight and apply it to the area. 2.3 lbs isn’t a tong of pressure, but you only showed us one inch of cramp. How big are the muscles cramping? How many muscles cramp at the same time? If I lay on my back and put a 6” x 6” weight on my tummy at 2.3lbs per inch, it would weigh 82lbs.
And normal air pressure is over 14 psi. That same 6” x 6” square is holding up over 500 pounds of air. When it comes to actually understanding PSI, I’m not sure how helpful this is approach is.
What a great demonstration!! Cramps certainly feel like they should be able to crush concrete blocks. My mom didn't have them. I had them very bad. In my 30s, she apologized for not being more understanding when my cramps were horrendous. If you don't have them, you can't possibly know what it's like and I truly am thankful for every person who has been spared them.

Yeah I was actually wondering if using that stretchy clear vinyl plastic on the front might have reduced the crushing power maybe a bit too much. Still probably a preferable design choice over something like acrylic, which would be too hard. My periods were always extremely painful from the time I started around age twelve, cramps so bad my vision would go black and I would almost pass out. It wasn't until I was 19 that a friend told me that wasn't normal and I should talk to a gynecologist about endometriosis. Unfortunately the gynecologist I saw gave me grossly inaccurate information, telling me I didn't have it because she would have seen it during a routine exam (so, so not true.) I found out four years later after a laparoscopy that I do have it--and I only had a laparoscopy because they found a uterine fibroid and figured we'd check for endometriosis when they did surgery to remove the fibroid. Please please advocate for yourself or for your loved ones who are dealing with menstrual pain so bad it affects their daily quality of life.
That sounds so horrible! Did you get medication for it afterwards? If you still don't have any, I'd recommend using a type of birth control that stops periods.
I never experienced any negative effects (aside from bloodied clothing and sheets) during my period until last year (I'm 29, for context), when I was prescribed medication for a separate issue. Until that point, I'd had 0 pain, barely ever even felt cramping and could count on one hand the number of mood swings I'd experienced. I genuinely did believe other people were making it up, and I just did not understand how it could possibly be so bad you couldn't get out of bed. It baffled me, because I just could not relate. In the past year, I got the biggest wake up call. I'm so sorry (x17, for every year I went blissfully ignorant). Trust me when I say my uterus is definitely making me pay for it now.
I think the ballon was never going to pop, because the machine is actually preventing it from doing so. From my rudimentary understanding, you pop a baloon by causing some of its surface to over-stretch; but because your machine is **compressing** it, and does it evenly across all its surface, the balloon doesn't really stretch in any place. If you had removed the transparent lid, I'd be curious to see whether the ballon would have bulged out the front, and poped there.

those abdominal contraction machines are a great way to demonstrate the pain to people who don't get periods or period cramps. It's not the same pain, in the way that a toothache is different to a headache is different to rolling your ankle etc. But the intensity or discomfort can be demonstrated on an individual who doesnt understand the pain.
I love how the toothpaste is Simone's breaking point for "anatomical sense"... after demonstrating a balloon and a strawberry in the uterus. I wonder what the balloon and strawberry stories are?🤔
I really appreciate that you said 'people who menstruate' instead of 'women' because as a non binary person who menstruates obvious it makes it tough to buy products as its perceived as a 'feminine' thing, it's the little things that make me happy
This is fantastic. It's also important to understand that the menstrual cycle is an indicator of your general health and wellbeing. If you have cramps, for instance, they are very often caused by not resting and instead trying to continue on as if nothing was happening. Your body is literally telling you to rest by causing the pain. Try it if you can and see. If you can completely rest (call on family and friends to pitch in with cooking meals or babysitting if needed) for day 1 and even day 2 if you can, you may find a lot of symptoms ease. (That's unless you do have conditions like endo, PCOS etc, which require more than just rest). Google menstrual cycle awareness, track your cycle, understand what's normal for you and what is not.
Thank you for explaining that to men who, if they are remotely intelligent, will understand the women in their live, and, hopefully, be kind to them. Thank you Simone and Kotex!

Yeah, period cramps can hurt like hell. When my periods first started around like late middle school for me, I would cramp so badly, i would end up puking and because I was so sore and my mom thought it was sinus problems, she said I was acting like I was possessed by a demon when my periods started. I had more testosterone than Estrogen so they gave me medicine to correct the problem and I've been on birth control since. My periods seem so much more tolerable when I'm on my birth control. 2.3 psi is roughly equivalent to the pressure at the bottom of 1.6 meters of water. So the device could have pushed water up a tube that high which would have been neat.
That's interesting.
I would have expected it would be less since in a bike tire there's anywhere between 20psi to 120psi (depending on the tire volume and some other factors.)
But the pressure under water makes it very easy to literally get a feeling for how much pressure that really is
Yep. 2.3 PSI = ~15.86 kilopascal or ~0.1586 bar.

Your comment was very thought provoking and will probably help a lot of people…like me. Thanks, Thor!
I've never had a heart attack, so I don't know, but I can tell you that it hurts a lot.
i knew a girl who had her appendix burst and she thought it was period cramps
I've heard, anecdotally, that a lot of women don't notice heart attacks because they're so accustomed to intense period pain and the heart attack pain is more mild. I don't know if it's true but I'd believe it. I've always had terrible cramps that cause me to be sick and/or pass out, and I have an extremely high pain tolerance normally. It's hard for me to imagine something hurting more. I've neglected broken bones before because I thought I was just feeling sore or maybe bruised because it doesn't hurt nearly as much as period cramps.

I hope you keep talking to doctors about it. Sadly a lot of doctors don’t take it seriously but they should be looking for an underlying condition and treatments. Plenty of people have no side effects from birth control or at least ones that are small compared to the benefits, so you should be allowed to try it.
I spend hours on the floor unable to get up, vomit, break out in cold sweat etc. I was persuaded by those people saying “Oh my God that’s not normal, you need to see a doctor!!!” and actually went to see a doctor who got angry and nearly yelled at me for coming to see her, said it was normal, that there were women who had to go to the hospital every month so “What are you complaining about?”, refused to do any tests and told me she wouldn’t even give me birth control because I wasn’t sexually active (not sure why she felt the need to even bring that up that because I didn’t ask for birth control (it could cause a bunch of other issues), I guess she wanted to really drive home just how annoyed she was by me “wasting her time”). I've kept a period diary for years. I also have PCOS. Things I've noticed that make my periods suck less:

BenGay/IcyHot/etc rubbed on your abdomen may help a little.
So ymmv.

Yeah I was actually wondering if using that stretchy clear vinyl plastic on the front might have reduced the crushing power maybe a bit too much. Still probably a preferable design choice over something like acrylic, which would be too hard. While we are quishy beings, the inside of the abdominal wall, as well as the smooth muscle lining the uterus, can be quite firm, especially while contracting for peristalsis during menstruation-to the best of my knowledge anyway.
If we had exoskeletons...I can't imagine what we would look like.
@@tree_carcass_mangler But it's a fun thought though!
@@ThePixiixiq Fun, and kind of scary at the same time. I have a fear of almost all arthropods. I even have difficulty walking near the lobster tanks at grocery stores.
I get cramps so bad I get covered in sweat and can’t move a muscle for an hour until they go away…nothing helps…I’ve tried everything I can think of lol
Not actually a person that has periods but a friend of mine had really bad period cramps and she got perscribed special painkillers for it. Idk how available that is where you live but it might be worth asking about.
Get help! Like Simone said, if it stops you from doing normal things it's worth looking into as it can be something medical.
Not. Normal. Definitely go see a doctor as you may have endometriosis or pcos
Quite possibly the most ironic use of "lol" I've ever seen. See a doctor (about the cramps, not the use of irony within social media...)
I got a painkiller containing butylscopolaminiumbromid. That's the stuff they use to quiten your intestine's movements when doing an MRT on them. It worked wonderful.
“It’s not there to hurt you!” Are you sure about that.
"it's not there to hurt you"
my uterus, making me feel cramps so bad i can barely stay coherent during them: and i took that personally
you should really see someone about that
@@depressionover-bonestealin4079 wish i could but i keep getting denied for health insurance lol
thank you for saying people with periods instead of women, its greatly appreciated and makes content like this easier to watch!
SimoneSheCan and unlike her plasticine golem does not fall flat on delivering interesting, educational, and humorous content. Well done Simone.
I've taken an ambulance twice because of period cramps, almost passed out :( it felt even worse than what's shown in this video for sure
I want Mama Doctor Jones to react to this!
@Ananya M Someone comments the suggestion on MDJ's most recent video, and then we all thumbs up in support!
I wish someone had told me to see a doctor if cramps interfere with your life. I went through my teens and early 20's just toughing it out every month with pain shooting down my legs and little to no concentration for 1-3 days.
Maybe if health ed classes had this, the other half of the class would have a bit more understanding...
Put one of those pressure belt things around a dude's waist would certainly have at least some stop being so dismissive
I have still yet to meet another guy who doesn't understand thats its painful. Its all you hear in high school. We get it? But then again I'm from Australia, we don't really have filters here so you learn about things like this eventually.
Honestly it would be a bit more interesting to learn I guess, my class went dead silent when we had health, it’s uncomfortable for everyone lmao.
Very true...they would atleast not mock abt cramps
Simone, I am so jealous of whoever is friends with you! You have such a chill, fun personality, which makes you great at educating people on menstruation!
So I actually had my period while getting my first vaccine and the doctor said I couldn’t take any pain meds within 6 hours of the shot. Since it was my 4th day I though I would be fine.. but hell nah my uterus said time to die and it some of the worst cramps in my entire life. I fainted and felt like throwing up as well. Worst time of my life.
I will listen to Simone explain anything to me. I’m such a big fan!
I love how Simone is having so much fun squishing her doll
This might be the most perfect collaboration ever.
I love Simone's sense of humour and free-spirited self, this vid was so much fun 😂💕
Great video. I had horrible cramps, I talked to my doctor and he gave me a medication to help with the cramps. Best pills ever.
I like the reference to the people who menstruate: accurate and genderless. The machine is pretty cool, too!
I also loved that. There are many people that menstruate and it’s an accurate representation
Yeah but the description still only says women.
those abdominal contraction machines are a great way to demonstrate the pain to people who don't get periods or period cramps.
Thank you Simone and Kotex!
that was good, I love Simone's work.
I've actually had cramps that were like contractions (or what I imagine them to be like, I've never had a bebe), big waves of really really intense pain. I'm on hormone blockers now XD
You're right, a contraction is basically the same feeling as a cramp, but just many MANY times more powerful.
@@drowsyZot as a woman with extreme cramp pain, it kinda scares me that contraptions are even more painful. Like 650mg of Tylenol doesn’t even help with my cramps. Yet giving birth is even more painful than that? 😯
@@gothica3605 I have no clue about your particular pain but it's not a surprise that many women have some anesthesia to give birth
@@gothica3605 i've never given birth, but i wonder if contractions are less painful than expected if you're already used to really painful period cramps.
@@sgtmian there have been some women in labour who weren’t aware they were ready to push/imminently give birth because their contractions felt like their period cramps. So it’s possible that the contractions might not be worse than period cramps... but I don’t think that’s the most painful part of birth that most people worry about 😂 usually it’s the part where the baby comes out that causes the most pain
I can not explain how much I love kotex since I started my period they are the only pads I have been using
“I think I expected the uterus to have a little bit more destructive power” that sounded so chaotic, I love that
We need a follow up about uterus power in pregnancy. Maximum power.
3:34 - 3:52 that is too good of a representation of a period
3:42 ~ me during my period just like im done xD
I'm on my period and threw up two days ago from it and this was in my "watch later" playlist. Perfect timing moment.❤️
Back when I was about 12 or so I had one of the worst period cramps I've ever had in my life. I felt nauseous, had an actual fever, and felt super tired. I remember my stepdad telling me that I was overdramatic and I needed to stop being a big baby but he didn't know what I was going through at that moment. I was finally able to fall asleep and sleep the pain away but oh dang was that painful. Imagine being stabbed, getting your stab wound bandaged, and then having someone come over and rip the bandage off and stab you again, and again, and again. Sometimes it's like that.
Years later, I was diagnosed with PCOS. Go figure. =/ It all makes sense now. lol.
Her laugh when the play dough doll falls out is EVERYTHING DKSJS
I thought she meant that PSI meant nothing to her because it was imperial units rather than metric.
i love simones energy in here! but why is everything so so pink?do we still need to reproduce the color schema?
Because Kotex is being old-fashioned? They're also using women/girls/she, whilst Simone is being much more inclusive. Hope Kotex will learn from that.
I originally thought it was to match the actual color of your insides, which is kinda pinky/red. But after seeing the other reply here I think they are kinda being old fashioned. I hope they do change from that though.
Yeah, period cramps can hurt like hell. When my periods first started around like late middle school for me, I would cramp so badly, i would end up puking and because I was so sore and my mom thought it was sinus problems, she said I was acting like I was possessed by a demon when my periods started. Eventually she noticed I had a bit of a beard going on and FINALLY took me to a doctor. I had more testosterone than Estrogen so they gave me medicine to correct the problem and I've been on birth control since. My periods seem so much more tolerable when I'm on my birth control. So yeah, if your periods hurt bad enough, you should probably get your hormone levels checked and see if you can get birth control pills.
My body has literally shivered and shaken during period. Especially in winter. And the last for only half😪
When I first started menstruating (age 11), my cramps were like being stabbed with a burning sword. Now (age 26) it feels like being stabbed with hundreds of burning knives.
My fiance is amazing and feeds me chocolate, cuddles me and doesn't laugh at my mood swings or crying spells
That sounds like a great fiance! 😊
Your fiance is super amazing and caring :D
she said people with periods!!! she didn't say women! I'm so happy rn.
why.
@@rex198 because a lot of people say women but trans men and non binary people who were born as women still get periods. so saying women when referring to people who get periods isn't very inclusive. I'm a member of the LGBTQ+ community so it just makes me happy when people use language that is inclusive to members of my community.
