    Fun fact: when Ganondorf bursts forth from the rubble at the end of Ocarina of time, he was originally going to transform into a literal giant that you were going to have to climb the body of to reach his weak point instead of a pig demon. The reason they didn't go with that idea was because of Hardware limitations, but they eventually used it in Super Mario galaxy.

    EVERYTHING about the Ganondorf fight from OOT is dripping with atmosphere and presentation. My favorite detail has to do with hitting Ganondorf with the light arrow - Instead of other creatures which just vanish from the light, the arrow's energy EXPLODES out from Ganondorf, orbits around him for a moment, and then rushes back into his body to hit him a SECOND time. Like the Force of Good itself will not suffer Ganondorf's evil reign any longer. He yells out this awesome two-part gut-punch sound as the light hits him and then just crumples to the ground. But the BEST part? On the original hardware, the particle effects from hitting Ganondorf with the light arrow are so intense that it actually lags your game for about one second - which ends up looking like completely intended slow-mo at the moment of impact! Even the LAG makes the battle more cinematic, as if the universe itself ordained the fight to be epic!

    I’ll die on the hill that Zant is one of the best bosses throughout the entire series. You finally confront what you believe is the big bad of the game in a tense 1v1. And you warp through different points of the game which forces you to utilize most of the weapons you’ve acquired throughout the game. Then ones he’s had enough, a 1 on 1 sword fight showdown. It really feels like a great concluding fight only to find out he’s not even the big bad. Also I love how he goes from this intimidating godlike being of twilight, to being like a disturbingly quirky maniac during the fight

    • @jsc1jake512
      @jsc1jake512 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Agreed. Zant's fight was great. I've always seen him going crazy during his confrontation as his facade finally falling apart. At the beginning of the game, he had practically won. Hyrule surrendered, Midna was gone and his "god" was on his side. That is, until Link comes along and undoes EVERYTHING he'd accomplished. I see it as him finally breaking his intimidating facade to show you who he really is, a greedy but powerful psychopath.
      I think that he's based off of the "Magnificent Bastard" trope where the villain is rather likeable with his schemes and everything; basically a villain you love to hate. This trope has a few ways of panning out, for one, the "magnificent bastard" is the villain's true self, it's not a persona that's just who they are. Another way this can turn out is that the persona DOES break, implying that the villain was just acting that way for a reason, in Zant's case I believe he wanted to be feared.

      Zant is one of the most underrated bosses, through much of the game he is very intimidating and a serious threat to both Link and Midna. At the end, even though he turns out to be Ganondorf's puppet, he is still a tough but fun boss to to fight.

    I loved the Helmaroc King from TWW. It starts off as this giant, almost untouchable monster that takes your sister Aryll away to the Forsaken Fortress. When you arrive at the beginning of the game, it finds you, hauls you away right in front of your sister's eyes, and proceeds to fling you far away into the ocean. When you return for the second time, you are able to finally rescue your sister, thanks only to the pirates distracting it just long enough. As the music grows from heartwarming to serious, you see the massive bird flying across the sky just at the pirates retreat with your sister and other captives. This time, Link is prepared to fight this monster bird, and after a long battle, the Helmaroc King is finally destroyed, exploding into a mass of darkness and feathers as the searchlights all focus on its final moments.

    My favorite boss fight overall is Demise. I remember dyeing so many times but once you get the hang of it the fight isn’t too difficult. The scene is just so maxing and the battle is epic. Especially the second phase with lightning. The duel is very important to the whole series too some can say it’s the birth of Ganon. I also like how it seems very similar to the the final duel in Twilight Princess. My second is so the whole duel of Ganon(dorf) in Ocarina. As much as I like all the bosses from TP, I always look forward to the final fight with Ganondorf. A four phase final boss, each one with its own style.
    First, the classic Dead Man's Volley with puppet Zelda, then a beast on beast battle with demon beast Ganon, then an awesome horseback fight partnering with Zelda, and finally the one on one duel with Ganondorf himself with an awesome final blow and death scene for the iconic villain. Each phase with an epic and memorable BGM to go with them, and an increase in stakes as the phases progress.

    I would argue the best boss in Wind Waker is Helmaroc King. This thing is the reason Aryll was kidnapped, and by extension, the reason why you’re on this adventure in the first place. Finally being able to bash its skull in is a reward in and of itself, but the buildup is absolutely fantastic. If Gohdan was the test to prove he’s the hero, Helmaroc King is the practical application of it.

    • @anonymousfellow8879
      @anonymousfellow8879 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      The buildup to that fight is phenomenal too. Tetra basically going “I got yo sister. Go get your vengence” and the entire room flooding as you’re getting nearly impales by that thing’s beak, then how your “hAHA!! GOTCHA!!” is entirely Uno Reversed by realizing your master sword is basically a butterknife so Tetra, Komali, Quill, and Valoo have to save your cocky ass.
      Cimematically the fight’s just. So good. And having it being pretty easy feels appropriate considering Link’s growth and choosing to face Ganondorf prematurely afterwards

    • @shouldbageneral2456
      @shouldbageneral2456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I’d argue the best boss in wind water is the final fight against Ganon. The atmosphere of the ocean crashing down around you is very effective in raising the stakes of the fight. Ganon is intimidating both physically (he’s huge and nimble) and psychologically (He’s gone batshit insane and wants you dead). Most importantly though, this fight felt personal. Ganon was the most ‘human’ he ever has been in WW. There’s not very detailed, specific depth for his character, but it’s definitely there. You could say the big bird (forgot the name lmao) fight was personal too, because it kidnapped links sister, the driving force for him setting off on this adventure in the first place, and now he gets revenge. However, the bird is just following the orders of his master. Yeah Link fought The hands and face boss and the other ones like molgera to prove himself, but this is what that’s for. Proof that he is the one who will kill Ganon, to both himself, and Ganon. “No doubt in my mind… You are the hero of time reborn”. I didn’t want to write a whole paragraph for this lmao. But I love this series so much, it’s my childhood and shit.

    For me for Wind Waker, I love the final Ganon fight just because of everything that leads up to it and how it ends. You just defeated (the admittedly disappointing and silly) Puppet Ganon and had to climb up a massive rope, scaling a tower to reach Ganondorf. Once you arrive, The Hero of Winds is exhausted as he watches Ganondorf monologue to himself about why he's doing all of this before lunging at him and beating him senseless, taking his Triforce of Courage and completing the full Triforce. He only loses because Daphnes manages to steal his wish which is to fully erase Hyrule in the flood so the last battle takes place as the ocean is literally coming down around you. Luckily, you're not alone as Tetra has woken up and uses your bow and light arrows and you fight alongside her. This already makes it an epic final battle, Ganondorf has lost every chance he's had now and he already took what he needed so now he's out for blood but you're not fighting alone. But what makes this better is it really shows off what makes this take on Ganondorf cool, he learns. Throughout Wind Waker, Ganondorf was shown to be intelligent, actually taking steps to stop the hero instead of just sitting on his ass. Even when The Hero of Winds gets the Master Sword, its not a victory as Ganondorf has already depowered it so its just a cool looking but dull edged weapon and the only reason Ganondorf didn't even prevent him from getting it is because it sealed his powers so The Hero of Winds played right into his hands and since he didn't have the Triforce, there was no reason to spare him this time so he would be dead without Valoo and the Rito. Even when The Hero of Winds brings the Master Sword to its former glory, Ganondorf has already stolen Zelda and essentially sets up a string of physically taxing challenges so by the time The Hero of Winds even gets to him, he's too tired to properly fight. Ganon ONLY loses because he took too long with touching the Triforce, his only mistake.
    So this is a very SMART take on Ganon, so when you are finally fighting him, of course he learns. He gets shot three times by the light arrows while being distracted so what does he do? Knocks Zelda out to take her out of the fight. Even when she wakes up, he still learns from earlier and jumps out of the way when the light arrow is fired. The only reason he's defeated is because Tetra was clever and used The Hero of Wind's mirror shield intelligently and if Link didn't kill him when he did, he likely would have adapted to this as well. So this fight just works well with how Ganondorf was portrayed and how does it end? The Hero of Winds, a very cartoony and silly Link, jumps into the air and plunges the Master Sword into Ganondorf's skull. Unlike Twilight Princess, Ganondorf doesn't even get a moment to stand in defiance at his death, he just gets a moment of comfort feeling the wind and then dies, turning to stone as his body is washed away in a flood forever.
    Such a cool boss fight, a cool sword fight, working together with Tetra, Ganondorf adapting to your tactics and one of the most brutal kills in a game that was usually kid friendly, its great. Honestly if it wasn't for the Puppet Ganon lead up, it'd be perfect but I hate how stupid Puppet Ganon looks which is disappointing because its cool how after you defeat the first phase, it acts all triumphant until the music grows sinister as it transforms again. A cool subversion of expecations but I can't get over the googly eyes and the stupid way its mouth opens and closes.

      I’ve always felt Ganondorfs scare-factor was tied directly into his intellect; he’s always shown to be incredibly powerful, but it makes you feel virtually powerless knowing your opponent could dominate you easily both physically & mentally if they get even a slight edge on you in either way.

    • @lenlimbo
      @lenlimbo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For all the cartoony goodness of WW and how much of a plucky dork Toon Link is, I wouldn't call the game kid friendly. Sure, it looks kid friendly, but the themes, the aesthetics of many dungeons, and just what happens from the very beggining (the desperation of having a loved one being kidnapped and the fear of permantenly losing them, something very real in an age like the one that the Great Sea in WW is living, the lose of a parent, the extinction of several species, etc) paints a very dark game. If I had to choose a Hyrule to live in, the Great Sea would be the first one I would discard. The second probably BotW, or maybe the original LoZ one.
      And I think that's the third greatest strenght of the game, the contrast of how it looks in the surface to how it really is (and looks) once you get a bit deeper. The second would be how refined the OoT formula was at this point, and the greatest is the sense of adventure and exploration, which among the Zelda games I've played, it is only surpased by BotW. At least in my opinion.

      The Demon Train is definitely a fantastic boss fight. For me though, my favourite would have to be Malladus, simply because of how much it utilizes teamwork between Link and Zelda. It really is Link and Zelda bringing down the villain _together._ The only real drawback to it for me was that I was never able to play any of the plot-mandatory duets; having to give my DS to someone who could actually complete them for those sections, and the final boss fight has one.

    one of my personal favorites is the final boss in phantom hourglass. seeing your cowardly companion who fakes heroism turned into a phantom, who you've had to avoid the majority of the game but now have to fight, is simply too cool. Linebecks saving of Link against Bellum and his sacrifice in that is way more heroic than you'd expect of him, and it makes him seem like such a great dude.
    having to use time stopping powers to fight an otherwise invincible beast who's controlling a phantom is also just cool. the whole situation is just so grand and epic.
    Then at the end having Linebeck asking for something as simple and humble as his sunken ship back is just a cherry on top, just the final boss makes phantom hourglass one of my favorite zelda games, and probably one of my favorite all time games aswell.

      Zelda 2: Dark Link
      Link to the Past: Ganon
      Oracle of Seasons/Ages: Twinrova(I liked it because of how difficult it was)
      Ocarina of Time: Ganon (It’s just a dang amazing Final Battle for a game and still holds up today)
      Majora’s Mask: Twinmold (I liked the Mechanics of both fighting it normally and going in on the Giants mask)
      Minish Cap: I have no clue what it’s called but it’s that manta ray that’s in the sky
      Four Swords: Vaati, That game is just a fun play through in general for a relatively quick Zelda Game
      Wind Waker: I actually liked Molgera the best simply because of the Music but Ganondorf also is a amazing fight cinematically.
      Twilight Princess: Ganondorf yet again, This version of Ganondorf is my favorite version IMO
      Phantom Hourglass: Bellum (First Enounter), I love the Temple of the Ocean King and finding out that the very thing that defeated the Ocean King went and took over his home as well I loved.
      Spirit Tracks: Malladus, the Music is amazing and You get to tag-team with Zelda against him.
      Skyward Sword: The Imprisoned…I just love how ridiculous it looks as it’s climbing.
      A link between Worlds: Ganon…a ton of Ganon fights are just cool.

    I agree that Ganon is the absolute best boss fight in OoT (and most of Zelda, let's be honest).
    But I also have a special place in my heart for Volvagia. There's a cool background behind him as this horror story that Gorons tell each other, the legend of the Goron hero wielding the Megaton Hammer to defeat him and making the hammer one of best examples of working the dungeon item into the story, the build-up as you rescue Gorons and try to save Darunia, his intro is cinematic and intimidating, and the fight itself is really fun and makes you feel like a real hero.

    Imo the best boss of TP is the final fight with Ganondorf. My reasoning for that is because the fight had so much variety and felt so epic. From fighting a mind controlled Zelda, to going toe-to-toe with Ganon, then fighting Ganondorf on Horseback with Zelda assistanting you and lastly a final 1v1 grudge match sword fight. The entire time the fight was really good. It really felt like you were fighting the King of Evil, desparate for revenge and fueled with Rage. Not to mention the final stab was so well executed and felt impactful

It's a giant monster which already feels fun to fight against, and you get these really cool shots whenever it flies around the arena, but by far the best part of the fight is the music, it's such a catchy, flighty tune, and it always pops into my head whenever I think of not just Wind Waker music, but Zelda music as a whole

    Gotta disagree with your pick for wind waker. The final battle with Ganondorf at the top of the tower to me is so profound. With each swing of his sword you feel the might of his power, and the small window of time given to parry makes it feel like you’re overcoming all the odds to finally beat this big bad.

    • @anonymousfellow8879
      @anonymousfellow8879 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To me it’s just…heartwrenching. His sanity’s finally snapped with his last shred of hope utterly obliterated just so the Hyrulean King can have one final comeuppance, essentially. (And the showdown only happens in Hyrule at all because the King stranded Tetra there without a boat-Ganondorf can enter at will since he has a completed Piece and the Tower literally marks where Tetra’s hiding for MILES. Link cannot until he reassembles Courage, and by then it’s too late. Good going, your moronic majesty!)
      Also…the absolute irony of the Great Deku Tree and Ganondorf essentially having the same Wish-they both wanted to restore Hyrule. Ganondorf wanted to drain away the sea and have access to the Perfectly Fine land below the Seal. GDT wanted to create a bunch of mangrove forests to sloooowly collect sediment and reform a continent overtop the Sea which…was never going to work. Despite sending out seeds every year the only ones that didn’t ultimately wither to dust were the ones Link brought Forest Water to to revive them. (Sure Ganondorf gets blamed here but that’s honestly just GDT’s working theory. The koroks never stuck by the trees before. They probably planted far more seeds the prior years, especially since Makar has so many seeds at his disposal in the Wind Temple.)
      So, there’s the despair of “I’m taking you down with me” verses “Victory, but Not Yours” and Link and Tetra quite literally caught in the middle, much like how the series of events that even started their misadventure. We never learn why the King even had the Lion Boat bobbing around-lucky for Link that it was-but in all likelihood it was to go after the Triforce himself (first to get his old kingdom back and find his descendent to gaslight For The Old Ways, then a slight change of heart…sorta…but only to keep Ganondorf from getting his way.) And the King claims he’s “moving on” when he chooses to drown with Hyrule but…to be honest? He destroyed a perfectly viable land when the Surface had been pushed beyond its carrying capacity over a generation ago (tiny human populations, long overfished seas that never had much fish to begin with, not nearly enough land for agriculture) and there was absolutely no guarantee Tetra and Link would even find a new Land large enough that would save the human population on the Surface.

    I agree heavily with this list, but had a few changes of my own. (pretty long)
    - A Link to the Past for me was Trinexx, the 3 Headed Turtle guarding Zelda in Turtle Rock. The most challenging part about this dungeon is the use of magic, and the boss is no different. Using the Cane of Somaria to cross the gap to the boss door surrounded by torches is such a nice touch for entering the boss' lair. What awaits Link is a Giant Turtle glaring at you while 2 elemental turtle heads slowly stick out one by one. One being Fire, the other Ice. Nowhere in the game warns you that you'll need an extra item thats found nowhere in dungeons to beat this form, needing both the Fire and Ice Rod to beat 2 of the heads. The fire one shoots out massive fireballs while the ice head shoots out a spout of ice on the ground, making it a harder terrain for Link to run around avoiding the major massive head extend as an attack on him. Once both heads are defeated, the Turtle hides back into its shell, as it explodes rather violently, but is not finished yet. The turtle turns itself into a huge snake and traverses the room trying to ram into Link. One of its weakspots is its glowing belly, but the other is its head can be damaged by the Tempered/Golden sword. It definitely takes the cake as the boss guarding Zelda, the final maiden before the big showdown against Ganon.
    - Oracle of Seasons for me was Medelock, AKA. Medusa's Head. This boss is also the final boss before the big bad in Dungeon 8; Sword and Shield Maze. Its entrance is revealing itself by basically teleporting into the room, and then it has 3 forms of attack. It mostly tries to keep its distance from Link to spew fireballs at you and avoid getting hit with your sword. It will teleport to the top side of the rooms and quickly glide across to the other side shooting lazer beams out its eyes. It's final attack is teleporting into the center of the room and spewing a circle of petrifying orbs that if hits Link, turns him to stone momentarily. You can use your Triple Slingshot to stun the boss, but its also just as fun running around and using the Roc's Cape and sword to aim for it. Very underrated boss imo.
    - Wind Waker was probably the hardest to think of what my favorite boss was. It was down to 3, but I have to go with Molgera in the Wind Temple. It resembles a giant flying Ray that lives in the sand, and while its not as challenging, the music and dungeon item really seals this boss. The way you hookshot onto the Ray's tongue to drag it in and whail on it was satisfying. The room is a giant sandpit, making it hard to run around while baby rays charge at you and the sand waves try to mess up your movement for attack. Was a very fun fight to complete the Master Sword before challenging Ganondorf.

    Last form Malladus deserves a mention for, if nothing else, his absolutely awesome final boss theme. No Zelda climax has ever had a sense of _"Let's do this!"_ like Malladus. Any handheld game that can get me _that_ pumped up deserves a lot of credit. If only Malladus didn't have the stupid mustache...

    Ocarina of Time's final battle against Ganon is just so damn perfect in the N64 version. His dark silhouette only enlightened by the lightning striking the fields around you, except for his gaze piercing the dark. It just feels so...damn...Good. Very tragic and dramatic, too, for a kids game on top of that! I love this fight a ton. The music is also just so...Simple, yet so grand.
    OOT may be called overrated here and there, and I get it, but man that game holds up INCREDIBLY well.

    Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are criminally underrated games. Only the game gimmick of having to use the stylus to move around, makes this game less playable. I wish Nintendo would rerelease these games without the stylus mechanic.

    I will say, while I am a Koloktos fan, Levias also owns my heart! As a kid, figuring out what was in that giant cloud dome was like some special prize, it was like another world, and while the Levias fight may have been repetitive and a bit challenging (personally), it was the ambience and environment that got me! Chased down by parasitic flying creatures on the back of a giant sky whale, very cool in my book!

    Honestly, I liked the Helmaroc King boss in WW. The story started with a boy desperate to save his sister, his enemy was this massive, unbeatable bird.
    And even when this seemingly invincible bird was defeated, the work isn't complete.
    It's not just about your sister anymore, it's about the world.
    As for Skyward Sword, Koloktos was just so epic. The juxtaposition of the Ancient Cistern as a dungeon with both lush purity deeply inflicted with evil, the pristine gold of Koloktos armor, infected with viscous goo. Plus being able to literally shred open the equivalent to a ribcage with the opponents own weapon is so brutal, I love it!

    I know that fighting Majora with the fierce deity mask is just a joke of a fight and not challenging at all but after playing it recently, that fight is just so satisfying and fun to play after working so hard to get every mask in the game. On the other hand, the boss battle against Demise was probably the most difficult in the whole series, at least it was for me. Personally, my favourite boss fight in Spirit Tracks would have to be either Byrne or Malladus, for one simple reason: they make use of the most important and useful companion any Link has ever had: Zelda. Fighting them by utilizing both Zelda and Link and ultimately defeating them through teamwork between two very different characters is something that you just can't get in any other Zelda game, and I don't think I will ever forget the moment when Link struggles to drive the Lokomo Sword into Malladus' forehead, so Zelda comes along and helps him finish off Malladus. It's a really good moment.

    The only boss I even somewhat enjoyed in OoT was Phantom Gannon. I barely remember any of the bossess and those I do I distinctly remember being too easy or dragging on too long.
    Those two witches in the last temple in particular when on FAR to long. I have vivid memories of absorbing their fire and ice attacks with the mirror shield and knocking then down for what felt like hours.
    King dodogo or however you say it was a joke, I even though though was a mini boss for a second after I beat it.
    The water temple boss Was a painnnnn to nap with the hook shot and thst along was incredibly frustrating.
    But the final Gannon battle Was the worst offender.
    I wasn't a big fan of the first stage, because playing volleyball ball near exclusivly with a soon to be pig man, but what came next really pissed me off.
    I spent 30 MINUTES wailing on his tail with the bigoron sword only to eventually look up why he wasn't dead. Anyone who played the game probably knows exactly why he didn't die.
    Damn master sword....
    Bongobongo was pretty cool though, and the Red dragon thing was interesting, but over all the bossess were kinda Trash. Good thing the minibossess and quality dungeons made up for it.

    Stallord is pretty good, but my favorite boss in Twilight Princess would have to be Argorok. I love zipping around the arena with the double clawshots, out in the open air, clouds around you and the wind howling in the background... it feels so epic, and Argorok itself is just so _cool._ The only downside is that it's in the City in the Sky. I love every single boss and mini boss in Twilight Princess. Each and every one has a super cool-looking design, an equally cool arena, and gameplay-wise they are all really unique. Even the less popular ones like Morpheel I really love, because he feels like a Shadow of the Colossus boss, and the sheer size and spectacle is amazing. Plus the way you finish him just makes me feel so damn hyped lol. Each main boss had a super cool gimmick, like remote controlling the giant statues to squish the spider boss, or swinging around like Spider-Man to get onto Argarok, or the jaw-dropping use of the spinner in Stallord’s fight.
    Even the mini-bosses, like dark nut, Death Sword, the flying monster and the ball & chain monster are so damn cool and dripping with atmosphere. I truly cannot overstate how much I love Twilight Princess. It is truly one of the best games ever made.
