  • From the first time I dreamed about a pumpkin, I knew I was going to have to make a resin and wood hybrid one. This creations has all the qualities of a high-priced, tiffany brand creation -every project I make is a performance, every turn is complete with ups and downs and every time I finish I still feel I could do more. So come along to the thrill of a lifetime and see the making of the resin and wood hybrid Jack-O-Lantern.

    Another great looking project!
    I hear you on the resin strands. Whenever I'm using resin in a project I have to turn off my dust collector so as not to contaminate my wood chips as well they tend to get stuck and clog the intake. Easier to just sweep them afterwards.

    I love it! Those colors are great and the finished product is amazing. I'm actually glad you mentioned what you used as the filler piece in the core. I've been wanting to try making something WAY simpler than this, but wasn't sure how to make the "core" of the piece, since it's just going to get hollowed out anyway, and for sure didn't want to waste that much resin.

    THANK YOU for using that round bottom plastic container!! One of my gripey annoyances is waste of materials. I hate it when someone casts a large resin object only to lathe it down to nearly half its size! Also, do you ever use the leftover ribbons in projects? I'd like to see something like that if you did!
    Have you considered making a silicone "plug" the shape of the desired interior? Place it inside the plastic casting container to preform the inside and save more resin. It could be reusable. Make different sizes. Yeah, it takes away from the fun of turning it on the lathe. 😄

      I was originally going to cut the lid from the body, but the resin ended up not being high enough. I had to make a lid on the fly. The body lines were put in at random while the new lid was cut to fit. Does it drive me nuts? yes. But it is what it is.

    I'm not here to give you crap about your ring. You do you, boo boo. But I just want you to know I've seen multiple deglovings with silicone rings as well so, something to think about. One dude had a partial degloving but because it was silicone and had some give, it stuck at a certain point and started twisting the finger off. That one was gnarly! 😬 But I don't think it's a reason to give someone crap over. Some people are more aware of what they're doing than others so there's less of a chance of those people having an accident. A lot of deglovings I see happened because people were being careless and stupid and/or goofing off in a technical situation when they shouldn't have been. 🤷‍♀️

      I feel ya. I saw many gloving's in the military. This is made with a soft silicon. I highly doubt it could do much besides break. I agree most happen when people are careless. Thanks for commenting. It's important that people understand the dangers of ring wearing around equipment.

    Wait, you guys sing "ashes, ashes, we all fall down"?? We sing "atishoo, atishoo, we all fall down", as the rhyme is about the black death, and cold/flu symptoms were the first sign you had it.

      There are a few different versions of this rhyme. I have also heard that version. It is very interesting the history and folklore behind this rhyme.

      @@MoonpieCreations for excess scrap I suggest something multi layered. Maybe a Snowman? Make a stack of of random wood turn it into a roughly round shape then use white resin to fill in gaps. Make a top hat out of a dark wood and drill holes for eyes, smile, nose, and buttons. Make dark pegs for them and an orange apoxy nose?

    I have found that good quality deck screws are less likely to snap when removing them. You might still get some that break but probably not 5 out of 6.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These were high-quality. But I’ve used the screws numerous times and failed to wax them before I put them into the oak. I will take full responsibility for the break it on this one LOL

    I wish resin would stop being such a viral trendy thing it’s expensive it’s super toxic did I mention it’s expensive it stinks and I don’t really think the end product looks that cool I would much rather see something made out of acrylic or a poly styrene or just something I don’t know that takes some sort of creative input besides just mehhhhh this on Facebook

    Coming from a safety and more machine shop type environment when he grabbed the still moving tool post!!!!! Oh may that’s like rule one for these types of machines if you don’t want to loose any fingers, hands or even arms at the torque power that mass would have when still spinning.
