Not gonna lie, this hurt my soul to see you treat my first vehicle with so much violence and hatred😂 still one of the favorite cars i ever owned. Wish i never got rid of it. But I'm excited to see the finish. This is what I always wanted to turn it into. But back then at 18 years old didn't have the funds or the means to do it. This will be bad ass when it's done.👍👍
The way Ryan was tearing down this car reminded me of that hilarious meme of the guy saying its a lot of rippin an ah tearin he had some aggression an speed like he was being paid by the minute stoked for this build
I just realized, I own the same set of cars as you and same colors. White 96 GT-Four and red 97 GT with a beams. Fun cars! Most likely our GT-Fours will be similar in builds as mine has a forged motor in it ready for more power. Unfortunately my rebuilt E154f trans is making noise and the car is sitting… again😢
"Hater's wanna test, but we're rockin' with the best." Always thought the GT4 was such a legendary and Iconic car. I feel like there is so much spirit and soul to Rally, that it is definitely something to be treasured and preserved. I didn't think you could top you're Toyota Stout project, but this beast comes pretty close.
I bough my Gt-four a year ago and have been waiting for someone to make a build series on youtube for one. Glad to see it getting the recognition from you, cant wait to see the finished product !
Crazy, good luck with the build Ryan! Some guys here in the US have already done GT4 conversions using GT4 parts. Back then it was the only way to get a GT4 over; but now that they're 25 years over it's overall cheaper to just import a GT4 than do the conversion, especially with parts going up in price.
As a kid I worked at a Toyota dealership in the early 90s so I got to see the Celica and Sapras brand new! Not gonna lie, seeing you rip that car apart was painful! I can see the vision though and I support your work. I really like the idea of that 400HP street car though, that should be the next build.
Lets goooo! Was bummed you weren't going with Gt-four chassis, but after seeing the extent of everything you're going to be doing, it makes sense to go forward with a cheap USDM model.
Stoked for the project! Very excited to see some Celica content on here. But please, be more careful when taking the cars apart. Old cool cars are getting rare (these Celicas are becoming unobtanium in Europe, for example), and we need spare parts. I get that you don't want to sell everything piece by piece on marketplace, but like.. Donate or sell it all in one go to a Celica guy or whatever.. No need to break things on purpose. :)
Looking forward to seeing more. I've got a USDM ST185 I've been keeping on the road for the last 20yrs. Excited to see the GT-Four platform get some love as it seems to always be forgotten compared to Subies and Evos. Hopefully PSI Racing is involved as I love seeing the work those guys do to 3S/5S's!
I really love this series on the 6gen Celica. In AL it’s a rare car to see in good condition. I know it’s a little odd but the 6gen Celica is my favorite car and I have been collecting them. I have a st 202 with a 3s-ge swap in the works, a st 204 with a 3s-gte, a st 202 that is being turned into a 24 hours of lemons car, a st 204 parts car and a st 205. I don’t want to be “that guy” but I would love to buy some of the old parts from that st 204.
Super cool! I have a st202 1.8 myself and always wanted to make it RWD if I had the money. My guess is that it would be easier to just make it awd and then some wizardy. It's the onIy way to make it legal where I'm from to be fair. I know a few people who has done the gt to gt4 conversion and also had the oportunitty to ride on some st185 and st205 gt4s. Seems like the biggest difference would be lifting the Gastank to accomodate the diff etc? Can't wait to see the process!
you think that is a long cv axle? its the same length as the civic/integras of that era with the same intermediate shaft design. the vw/audi tiguan has a long cv axle
Great to see lad we do alot of tarmac rallying and building tarmac rally cars over here in Ireland 🇮🇪 youd love it 🤙👌💯 What geometry does this phyco suspension use ? Similar to rally 2(same as r5 rally cars) car maybe
Would be interesting to see this get a GR Corolla drive train swap classic styling with modern performance, especially with the power people are able to make with the 3 cylinder 1.6 litre engines
What a damn coincidence to see someone do this. I have a 95 GT liftback that I've been wanting to engine swap, as well as a drivetrain swap into something with the 3sgte along with the stock awd system of a GT-Four. My only concern, though, is how expensive it would be, which makes me wonder how expensive a project like that would be overall. I've also been told that I may need to change out the subframe, for the GT-four subframe is different to the GT's? I could easily just buy or import a GT-Four but I've grown attached to my GT, but I also want it to be better. If you could shed some light on the economics of such a task, that'd be great.
Haha I have a 95 GT Liftback too! I’m keeping mine fwd for the foreseeable future. I figured changing the drivetrain from fwd would remove some of the character of the car, kind like Theseus’ Ship, at what point would my car still be what makes it a GT yk
@jordanleng204 I mainly want to do it because I want to turn mine into a rally car. I could still rally fwd, but I still want power going to the rear for optimal control in corners
@@sethjansson5652 Yeah awd is the way to go fs. Best of luck man! I wanted to do rallycross but the closest event is 3hrs away from me. Been drag racing mine lol
When you said fwd is new to you then watching engine come out the top.😂 Also next time with the dry ice get a dollar store rubber mallet (or as i call it, the "Clown Hammer") and leave the dry ice in and smack the icy parts underneath. 3M roloc bristle brushes (old transmission techs love em) work wonders for the seam glue in the tight spots. But you still killed it. Can't wait to see more.
Man dont know if you know, but the FWD celicas have a different rear floor gt-fours. So there might some cutting to do to fit the driveshafts and the diff
Love this! I have a 94 Celica GT and seeing the guts is really helpful and interesting. Side question: you gonna sell/giveaway the OG 5-spokes? I’ve been looking to ditch the steelies that came on mine for the aluminum wheels.
This series will be a god sent for me. I’m the first to 2arfe swap the 6th gen celica in Australia. However, I would love to AWD swap aswell which would really make it one of a kind
Nice build for a rally celica gt4. I Can't for next episode. Btw do you still reuse the sunroof of this celica? My old corolla sunroof is broken need to replaced😅
Can tell it's your first fwd car to pull apart because fwd people know you drop engine with subframe and all the suspension still attached to the the ground then pull it apart
Love the fact that you actually put the wrench to it yourself...i see so many bulds on youtube where they never touch the car and just send it away...its not REALLY your car without some blood, sweat, and swears...is it😂
bruh this is freakin awesome!!! i've dreams over building a gt4 celica as well.. Ya'll should throw this on top of a 80s Toyota Dually Flat bed Tow pick up truck.. it'll be nasty! heheehe
Also a really crazy idea, what if you got a manual Tacoma drive train and fabricated it into a 1980’s Tercel wagon. It would be a cool car if you cut the roof off and put a jeep style cage in it. I have a Tercel wagon chassis I’d be willing to donate before I send it to the junk yard.
If you don’t buy the GR Corolla drivetrain in this it would be a tragedy. I am hyped to see what is next. This thing being hauled by a classic Land Cruiser would be amazing. I have a dream of doing the same with w 1st gen pathfinder(swap a VK56 in it with a manual trans out of 350) hauling a 91 Sentra SE-R(time attack style) with a SR20VE built by mazworks
