About Papadakis Racing
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2021, 2022 and 2015 championship titles with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as back-to-back championships with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008.
This season, Fredric Aasbo returns to defend his title in the Rockstar Energy Toyota GR Supra, while Ryan Tuerck also returns to the team to drive the Toyota Corolla hatchback.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport-compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The car is perfect because it isn't. It's not a show car, it's a driver. Man it's so beautiful
Mr. Papadakis has blessed us with another video! When this man talks you just sit down and listen!
Induction noise sounds better than exhaust noise…..fight me. Thanks for the video Steph, I grew up in my parents 1976 Mazda 121 with a twin dcoe fed 2.1L striker MA motor and the sound in this video took me right back to it. I now own the car and it will be getting restored with my boys to continue the car nerd addiction. Thanks for the content mate and please keep it coming, we love it. 👍
Yess love it when people post their backroad drives with raw sound. Also glad to see this beautiful Celica back on TH-cam.
Sounds perfect
This is really all you need; a neat car with a bit of extra umph and well setup handling. We spend hours on youtube watching reviews and drag tests trying to figure out what the perfect car is for us, when we can make it so simple and not over think and over complicate things.
Yes I agree, also one that will be reliable and easy to work on is also a plus imo.
The sound of that motor reminds me of being 19. I had a 70 candy green Celica lowered with a 18RG. Use to smoke 5.0 Mustangs all the time. So much fun 😆 🤣 😊
The sound of dual side draft never gets old. Love the sound!
That intake sound takes me back to the days of my youth and chatting with the guys at TRD when they were in Gardena, CA.
The Toyota celica from the 70's is one of my favorite cars.
Seeing the Celica take on the canyons is so awesome!
Also, that 18R-G engine sound is music to my ears. 😊
Scotty approves this message ;)
@@Eduardo_Espinoza You bet! (^_-)v
I've been doing Angeles Crest in my s2000 for the past 10 years. It's my way to unplug sometimes. Glad to see you're also driving respectfully out there.
What a joy this was! Thank you for sharing
Ah yes, in those days Toyota had yet to create their own brand-specific design language. That is, they got inspiration from other OEMs and put them through a shrinker. Like the Celica here; it’s like a 7/8th size 1969 Mustang, especially the fastback version!
The notchbacks have almost like a 1st gen Camaro roofline, but the LB version definitely looks like a '69 Mustang.
steph dropping panties with his window trick
When that dohc opens up... Pure symphony ✨
That Celica is making all the right noises and looking the part! Would love to drive that route one day!
2 Papa D uploads in quick succession? Another Festivus miracle!
Incredible car man! Love to see and hear it!
I have no idea why you make these videos, but I'm glad you do. I love it when you show the "creation" of the cars and eventually the cool places you drive to.
Beautiful video. Sweet analog car. Can step on the gas a bunch. Blessed with those roads. So humble my dude can't believe people don't freak out seeing you, true legend
Love those OG Celicas! Thanks for sharing Stephen! 🎉We have a 2003 Celica GT with 223,000 miles! Still running strong we love it and had it since new and passes smog every year.
It sounds great.
Awesome to see a new video on that sweet Celica Stephan!
More please.
God what I wouldn't give to have roads like that.
That Celica sounds beast too. Looks like an absolute blast to drive!
Beautiful car! I sure miss my 79 Celica.
That's a sweet car. When you first floored it, the sound it made reminded me of how my first Mk2 Escort sounded back in the day.. The twin carb setup i'm sure has something to do with that... Was twin Webers for the Escorts.. I miss those days.. Simple fun.. Great video..
Love to hear the Noise of a proper car!.. thanks for the video.. ❤
What a glorious sounding and looking machine! Thanks for sharing
Very much enjoying this this video. Love the car. Keep pushing the envelope Steph!
sounds awesome! gets me excited to drive mine for the first time!
Nice ride, Steph, and a nice video. Thanks! My wife and I really loved a late '70s Corolla four door that we owned from about '79 to '87. I grew up on American iron, and envisioned the Corolla as a miniature Chevy Nova. It was a blast. Miss it a bunch!
Well done on the longer bits of video with no talking. This car is achingly beautiful and looks like a lot of fun to drive.
love that sound !
Damn Steph!!! After watching this i was in tears seeing ACH 2 and the grunty addictive induction sounds! So much memories up there! Upload more of these weekly or whenever!!!
Awesome video thanks for sharing!
What a tune! The sound AND the performance.
could listen to this all day!
Such a good looking car. Thanks for taking us along!
Love the sound of those carbs, my 20r in my 77 just got some put on, still getting them dialed in, can't wait til I can hit some nice twisty roads like his
Had a -75 Celica, back in the early -80’s, done up on a rally theme. Was awesome on northern Maine logging roads. One of my biggest regrets is having sold it.
Thanks for sharing.
That was awesome brother. Thank You
Glad to see Eric's old car running up and about. As long as I have known Eric I have never seen that car run.... Really glad it's running now
Looks like such a cool ride! I see you went with a modern look overall. I bet that helps keep it under the radar a bit more.
Honestly, of all the youtubers I subscribe to - I definitely wish you uploaded more.
Best sound was the drive away at the end of the video. Amazing
Another exceptional episode!
That thing just looks good from all angles
I love it sounds amazing
Always waiting for more videos from you I don't mind the wait because your videos are always fantastic.
Beautiful car, respect from Australia
Sweet sound of raw power & no car nannies when the driver was in full control thanks for sharing
That motor sounds amazing... brings back memories of driving my 67 Sunbeam Alpine on the Ortega Highway back in '89. Magic stuff. Still have that car...
love the sound of twin Webbers! What an awesome road. Nice driving too.
@ 5:35 who’s your daddy! 😝
Excellent as ever mr P. And now down draft carbs finally make sense 👍

I see you upgraded the Ignition! I hope there's another video coming with all the new upgrades since getting the celi running again. been a fan of yours since meeting you at LACR back in the late 90s at one of the Battle of the Imports races.

Great car and great video. Bravo. This reminds me that I need to get my twin carb 4ag corolla running again!
what a good looking Celica! Love the fact that its "used" and not mint in paint etc. epiq! :)
dang I wish I could shift that smooth all the time! What a G!
Dude I got 1 now. I remember when Joji would talk about this car. It is super cool to see it back to its glory.
Sounds great
Neat ride. It'll goes through the canyon pretty good!
3:54 the washer nozzles look like an owl. What a bad ass car and that rev up… such a beautiful sound.
Thank you for sharing, I used to be very involved with those engines. Than I got into Sti and evos, now I just watch
What a sweet rig!
That sounds amazing
What a beauty!
Sounds real good!😊
Sounds so mint
What a beautiful Celica.
Of all your cars Mr.Papadakis this is my favorite❤
Alas, my first car when attending CSUN, prepared by my dad who was a body and fender man at O'Conner Lincoln Mercury. The Celica is long sold, the dealership is long shuttered, and my dad is with the Lord Jesus. Thanks for the video.
Beautiful machine! :)
Need more like these
Such a sweet car. Makes all the right sounds, checks all the right boxes
love the car, a buddy of mine still has one in munich, greetings & thx !
Damn, that Celica looks and sounds awesome.
I am going to have to add this to my list of "cars to own someday when I win the lotto" lol.
Very cool celica, I just love that era's cars. Had me a '70 chevelle, and I should never have sold it.
Beautiful car and sound 👌
Sup sir...new to your channel. I’m old school est. 71 and any JDMs car from years 70-99..!! Dose are my favorite carbs love the sounds it makes...I had Mikuni 44 on my Nissan Mini truck and Weber 40 on my Toyota Mini..!! You have a beautiful car...I wish my grandpa still had his 72 Toy Cilicia 💯😎🙏🏽❣️
Called heel-toe downshifts. I used to drive Angeles Crest in my datsun 1600 roadster in my senior year in high school, 1974. Lotsa runs at night drifting the turns going back down. Way back then there were less people,my friends & I had the road to ourselves.
music to my ears. Can't wait for my '73 celica st to get on par like this to do canyon drives
Love that celica
great car, great road. cant ask for a better day than that. i had the pleasure of driving a 348 spider up there last year. it was incredible.
Fantastic.
Really cool build.
Super!! Dope🙌 JDM Toyota Legend🙌
i love your videos
Lucky you. Back in the 70’s I would take my 66’ Mustang up to Newcomb’s Ranch, good to see young folks still enjoying the ride.
Sound is great I cant really tell for long journey I can handle that noise without helmet or earbuds but still when you want that sound this is great
That car is gorgeous...
I used to have a 1973 Celica that looked almost exactly like that. Black with molded fender flares instead of how his was bolted flares. Had the chin spoiler and trunk lid rear wing. Except my Celica had black 14x7 Enkei mesh rims. It had the 20R swap with dual 44 Mikunis, 11.0:1 pistons, a mild cam, and also had a 4.30 rear end. Tokicos all around on unknown springs. Was bouncy as heck on the freeway. Used to take it out through the Berkeley hills in Nor Cal back in the day after work and just drive it like it was a go kart. Only issue was trying to keep up with traffic on 4.30 gears. I remember clocking 4k rpm at 65mph and the 20R isn't a high revving motor. It's made for low to mid end torque, so redline was like 6.5k and at highway speeds I was pushing this motor close to it's redline.
But the 18RG was the motor I always wanted and at the time, this was 15+ years ago, I remember seeing a rebuilt one for $1500 and I thought that was too pricey just for the block and head. No carbs, no intake or exhaust manifold. Now these days, if you're even lucky to find one, $1500 is a steal! I was too young, broke, and couldn't keep up with the car and ended up selling it for $3k back then. That I also regretted as the car is worth a lot today
