I loved that greenhouse growing up as a kid in Salford. I moved to Australia when I was 11 in 1985 and it was still open when I left
It had exotic plants from all over the world and fish in ponds going around it. I always thought the glass heated it but it was a very well built mansion and wouldn't surprise me if it was run by steam and I'm sure it was in the building behind it which was a nursery for all the plants. There was some great spots to go as a kid growing up. We used to jump the fence into the rugby ground as well. The caretaker chased us out of there one day shoutin his head off and I got caught by the barb wire jumping back over the fence and ripped all me clothes. Mum went mental at me. Lol.
Thanks for sharing that video. Much appreciated.
Wish we never left Salford. My home town.

OMG!! How very sad to see the the once beautiful park in such disrepair. I used to play there and I remember the "coal mine" opening in1957.. the house was such a fascinating museum and the hot house was exotic. The such lush green lawns and flowers.. I did get told off by the park attendant for picking some flowers!! I am so glad that I have the original memories of Salford. We never thought it was a dump.. people were a community, friendly and always scrubbing and cleaning the dirt and dust away.. thanks for your videos. I haven't been been back to the area for over fifty years.. but I grew up all around your video areas.. thanks for the memories.👍👏

I live only a 15 min walk from this park. But reading the comments its no where near as good as it was back then. Ppl talked abt the mansion being in use and golf courses. Not there's just a simple playground and basketball courts. Iv always wanted to see what the mansion looks like inside now. Ppl use to think the mansion was haunted. Iv spent my short 14 years in this earth playing, meeting and have fun in this park. Id wish they did more with the place but if anything things have been taken down bc the rude people in Salford burned the tyre swings and stuff. It's sad honestly now the people have ruined whay could of been so much more. Thank you for doing this i highly appreciate it

I remember back in 1976 or 1977, during the first skateboard craze, we used to lie on our backs on our boards and hurtle down the hill near the Hothouse. The trick was then to turn just in time at the bottom and skid into the path to Pet's Corner, kicking up a load of dust and crap as you did it. What a rush! This was all when I lived in Brydon Close featured in your Hanky Park estate video before they knocked the top floor off. My skateboard cost £7.99 from Zodiac Toys on Salford Precinct. Still like to reach breakneck speeds albeit not on a skateboard. Ha Ha. Thanks for the memories Clarky.

I visited the museum on a school trip in 1971 when it was still the Natural History Museum. The guide asked us to stand away from the sides as we descended but Todd Russell poked a ruler through the cage and dislodged one of the rubber bricks. Unfazed, the guide explained that we were "now descending to 1250 feet or two and a half times the height of the Blackpool Tower" even though the same rubber brick kept flapping past every few seconds.

Hit me in the feels this one clarky, the new build next to the greenhouse was known as Salford consortium back in late 90's early 2000. I spent 12+ month in there training for my NVQ after leaving school. Basically where kids would go to gain a further education in either Horticulture, Cooking and child care.

All originally textile mills but used as warehouses. Some great pubs around ardwick one called the junction had one of the best pints of bitter I ever had. Probably all closed now. See ya dude.

I'm not sure, but it's certainly possible. There was a tiny zoo at the park once, near the Weaste Lane side. The animals themselves are long gone, but you can still see the old signs telling you not to feed them. I think the old "barn" buildings were once used to house park maintenance vehicles, etc. There is also an old golf course at the park, which is still accessible, one gateway is next to Buille Hill Hall, opposite the side enterance to the museum.

What a weird scenario, converting a mansion into a pit, that's awesome. Tell me, we're the mansion owners the original (close by ¿?) pit owners ? (if that was the case, like Arkwright, down from Sutton Scarsdale, also long gone Hunloke Hall, both Derbyshire.
