I remember when the precinct was just finished and it still smelled like fresh concrete. Everything was new, clean and modern and even though they wrecked Broad Street and other places, the new developments felt exciting and had a good vibe and a pint of bitter was only 14p in the Keystone. I like this shaky old film. It's like viewing through a time machine.

It was my dad that made these, I am into video now and he would have loved to use the stuff we have today for making videos.

Great video and memories of the old maisonettes where I grew up for my first 5 years. Plenty of footage of my mum when she was little in there too which was nice to see. Thanks.

Wow happy days my gran lived on cherry tree court across the road in the 70s. I remember dr conibears dental surgery close to it. We played out on sorbus not sure if it was that one or one of the other maisonettes that had a little concrete playground. She used to walk us down to the Carlton on Saturdays. We lived on south langworthy road which is now industrial units. 😞

would love to know how your family are doing and if you are still in the area, loved the precinct pub crawl and buying an outfit with matching shoes and handbag when i got paid, all changed now, no spirit left...such a shame

What year was that carnival? I could have been stood on Eccles New Road watching it with my mum... Great bit of nostalgia, great memories from a Salford that once was, and sad to think it will disappear with my generation.

I’ll guess it was between 1964 and 1970 but I was only a small kid myself so I’m not certain really?

@@JustMeZero988 I was born in 1968 and raised in Thurlow Street (the Waverley Hotel was - is - on the corner) until they moved us all out, but I just about remember at least one carnival like that coming down Eccles New Road. Certainly remember the 1977 Silver Jubilee street party we had, when all the kerbstones were painted red, white and blue!

No Donna, it was Salford, around the precinct area and where Stott Lane car park is near Salford Royal Hospital (formally Hope Hospital). So it isn't I'm sorry to say.
My mate moved to Little Hulton and he lived on Kenyon Way, but that was well after these photos.
