    Great video SJ! If I may...the numbers in the video are for BU quality coins (no wear) which are rarely purchased as "normal" junk silver (BU coins usually have a nice premium). The standard number used for coins with wear is .715. So take your face value dollar amount and multiply by .715 for the amount of silver . For example, $5 face is 3.575 oz of silver. Multiply that by spot price to see what you would be paying if you are paying spot. $64.35 in this example.

  • @zukiplay

    You explained that very well. Helpful video friend. I always used .715 x spot for FV on 90% except dollars. I always assumed the ever so slightly less number was a general account for circulation wear on junk silver. Just got a tube of walkers from coinexchange on eBay. With eBay bucks it came out under spot. And they didn’t add tax.

    I stopped buying junk silver by the dollar value, unless it is newer, My point is it should be sold by the ounce, kilo, pound, or whatever the weight is. I've gotten quarters that were short a full gram per coin from the wear and tear, and it still has refining costs! Everyone should have some, but I use the term loosely, and just for that emergency! Even collectibles will be melted in a shortage, and bullion will have a premium, if you can buy it with the currency of the month!

    I find that waaaayyyy too complicated. So I just go in knowing the current spot price and the approximate value of each coin at melt. Plus, I have committed the actual silver weight of all individual 90% coins to memory.

    • @silverspinner8516
      @silverspinner8516 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      pseudoty I too use Coinflation to know the melt value then I cherry pick the nicest coins I’m searching for the least amount of wear. Some dealers like to use face multipliers like 12x face when selling and I will compare their price with the melt price on Coinflation. Sometimes you can get it a few cents cheaper per ounce this way.

    • @TheRetiredVeteran
      @TheRetiredVeteran 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      War nickels are 35% silver. You may be thinking of Kennedy Half Dollars minted 1965-1970, they are 40% silver.

    • @captaincruloc3200
      @captaincruloc3200 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Coinflation as well. I have two LCS's in my area, one is completely ruled out simply based on their 90% silver prices, which are always more than the preferred LCS. Plus he just isn't as nice as the other place I go to now. I go into the LCS knowing what the coinflation price is so I know around what about the LCS should be close to. Morgan's and Peace Dollars are always separated based on numismatic value...wear, date minted. I do not buy my Eagles from this LCS though, they are just slightly more than getting them off the online dealers.

    Love the channel Silver Joker! Just over the state line in PA here. So similar prices but we don’t get taxed on silver that WAS or IS for circulation. So Junk Silver is tax free here but just like you bars or bullion coins are. Typically dealers around here always go for .715 ounces per face value of a dollar because of typical wear. Have you found that in Ohio or is it closer to the original minting value of .723?

    i go to my dealer and say, hey ill buy 5 eagles if you give me a deal on quarters, and he sells them to me for spot price, and i was going to buy the eagles anyway, he is a good guy, but the point is , ask for spot on quaters and dimes you might get it, doesnt work for silver dollars though , cant get a deal for morgans or peace, but he is glad to unload his quaters and dimes cheap, and yes i do get him to weigh them.

      .723 x spot = answer x face you are buying = cost of purchase, I think

    $1.45 face in 90% is a great way to see what 1oz .

    So best to use.723 x spot price sliver on face value of coins

      I believe so John. This will give you an accurate dollar value per dollar face of 90% silver. Please see the link in the description.

    1 oz in silver in junk (90%) is not going to sell as high price as 1 oz of 999 or 9999 silver so you should not pay too much for those 90% silver coins. I only get junk silver (925, 900, 813, 800 etc) if I can get them at least 20-30% below spot, otherwise it feels like it's not really worth to get, unless it's something special that has more value than the silver itself.

    For every $7 of face value [constitutional] equals 5 oz. of silver

    I always thought that spot price was only for purity of .999 fine and junk silver (sold for less) must be refined before it can be used as .999 is used now such as in electronics or jewelry . Therefore junk should goes for less than spot - no ? If not why?

    • @SilverJoker
      @SilverJoker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      90% silver is exactly what it says it is. Because it's not a full ounce of silver it's not bought at spot price. Unless you have enough silver coins by weight to equal an ounce, $1.40 in "junk" silver coins, it will sell under spot price. Constitutional silver is refined before it's used in industry. I hope that answered you question JustDanO. Thanks for watching. Keep stacking
