Very good video! It’s intuitive and educational. I’m working on my instrument rating and the workload is much more than VFR flight. Knowing where you are and what’s happening are keys. Thanks!

The workload is significantly more with IFR flight. Maintaining your scan is so critical and takes so much focus (especially in the beginning), it's hard to pick up everything in the background. So it's one of those things you'll practice until the scan becomes second nature. It may be somewhat counter intuitive, but if you can listen to all radio communications, you'll start to pick up data points that will help you. For instance, if another plane is heading the same general direction, and ahead of you, you'll be able to pick up your next frequency, or if they encounter some weather or turbulence, you can start to incorporate that into your future plan. Just keep after it, and it will start to click for you. Thanks for your comment.
