It should be based on the source, so as long as it's based on the VOR frequency, it is DME. But to be sure, I will research and get confirmation. Great question. Thanks.
not DME unless there's a separate DME window, and has the optional Honeywell KN 63 installed, its GPS based see; Garmin G1000 Pilot's Guide 4.4 optional NAV radios
I researched this and was told the Cirrus doesn't come with DME, unless specifically ordered that way. Mine was not. Therefore the distance is GPS based, which is authorized as a substitute to the DME. Thanks for asking. I learned something new.
@@pfflying6275 The reason I asked was the point of this flight was to perform a non GPS approach in the event of a GPS outage. Since the DME is based off the GPS the missed approach as published would not be possible, correct?
Actually it is possible. At least the way I am thinking, it would be. If the GPS system is up and running, that would obviously work as GPS is acceptable as a substitute. So in your case, with the GPS system shut down, I would just enter a USER DEFINED Waypoint, based on the LAT/LONG of VOSUY. Latitude 41° 56' 11.560" N Longitude 89° 28' 40.860" W Or just put my cursor over VOSUY and press enter and it will create the waypoint for me. I think it's in the database and not dependent on the GPS Satellites Am I thinking right?
Great video and great explanation of what you were doing vs what the avionics are doing and showing. Thanks for sharing. Blue Skys and Tailwinds 🍻
Thanks Cody. Happy New Year.
Missed Chicago so much buddy. All best. Cyrus.
Hey stranger. Didn't know you moved. Would love to catch up.
Very Nice Video!
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Is the DME distance actually DME or is it using the GPS?
