- Take two minutes to relax into the meditative beauty of Vancouver's iconic cherry blossom trees with this stunning video. With Vancouver's Cherry Blossom festival in question, don't miss out on this one.
Each year in April, Vancouver B.C. comes alive with cherry blossoms symbolizing the arrival of Spring. The delicate flowers delight locals and tourists for only a few weeks before their confetti-like petals fall to the ground, often resembling pink snow.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Cherry blossoms are not native to Canada. In the 1930s, the Japanese cities of Kobe and Yokohama gifted Vancouver with 500 cherry blossom trees to plant at the Japanese cenotaph in Stanley Park, as a tribute to Japanese Canadians who served in WWI.
• There are approximately 43,000 cherry blossom trees throughout Vancouver, in more than 50 varieties.
• The Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation hosts an annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival in April, connecting communities
through the Japanese tradition of "hanami" (flower viewing), and guided by the mantra “there is no stranger under the cherry tree".
