The PS4 Pro sold somewhere around 15 million units, close to 12% of the total sales of the PS4 and when it was released, it "took" the price that the base PS4 had on the shelfs (and the PS4 got a permanent reduction) and on the other hand, it was almost doubling the power and targeting 4K gaming and the difference in performance was quite obvious. They say this now but there is no chance they won't launch an upgrade. With GTA6 coming, they won't let Sony propose the better experience exclusive to their hardware.
Exactly. As soon as the "PS4 Pro" was released, it suddenly became acceptable to release games that _only_ ran well on the Pro - and reviewers only bothered reviewing games on the Pro, making it tough to get a handle on what the humble "base console" experience would be like. Great point about PC Gaming. I have owned gaming consoles, and an old gaming PC with a 6700k and EVGA GTX1080ti. I played the Black Ops 6 beta on my PC, and it ran smooth as butter. PC gaming offers so much value, with the ability to upgrade easily, utilise more powerful components than consoles, and purchase games for peanuts, on platforms like the Steam sales etc. The only negative for PC gaming, is the image of all PC gamers being hackers, and how some AAA developers exclude so game features from the PC version of their games. For example, EA don’t include PC gamers to use the crossplay transfer market in their FIFA/EA FC games. I personally think the PC is the future of gaming.

While this won't make it much better, it's important to remember the EU regulations state the consumer must see the price they will pay at the end for any product or service (something similar applies to the UK and JPN). This is different from the US where products and services are presented without tax. Taking this into account, we get a more down to earth comparison: USD 700 (Not including tax) GBP 583.33 (not including VAT 20%) EUR 666.66 (not including VAT 20%) (note that this varies by country, but ranged from 19 to 23% aprox.) (Then we remember some states don't have sales tax in the USA, and most don't even reach 9%... but Sony has no say here.)
@@BlackPaperMoon18 Japan and the UK. UK prices always include VAT. You can't use tax-inclusive prices for NA or EU territories because the tax rate varies by location.
@@BlackPaperMoon18 The UK and the EU establish that all pricing must be the final price the general consumer will end up paying when making the purchase, as such, it must include VAT. At the same time, this is never notified in any way. This last part is different from Japan because of a change in their law around 4 years ago which adopted the EU and UK system of having the final price displayed with the vat included, with the small difference being that because of the recent change, most pricing has the "tax included" text displayed next to the price number. This is not mandatory, but is a general practice that stems from the fact the change is recent, thus making sure people are aware of the vat being included. And there you have it, that's why the text is only under the JP pricing and not under the UK or EU one. As for US pricing, their entire system is different, with each state taking that tax money instead of the country itself. This inevitably makes it hard to display a final price with tax for the entire populace, thus prices are displayed without tax. Keep in mind this is a pretty rough explanation, so take it with a grain of salt, but the result is as we see, prices without tax added. As for the EU, unlike what coliander4180 says, prices MUST include VAT, this is by law. While a business can certainly have different prices for different EU countries that have different VAT %, most larger ones will have the same price on all EU territories. It might appear Sony would have to swallow the difference in territories where the VAT is higher, but don't worry, they certainly make sure it's the consumer that takes the hit. Though, in this case, we seem to have been somewhat spared, with Japan, ironically, getting the biggest slap. I'm a "good looking pixel enjoyer" myself, as soon as you go "alright, it's pretty now let's play for real!" the graphics literally don't matter anymore. So, at the end of the day, it's £900 for a few minutes of pixel peeping... It's outrageously expensive. I love good graphics (I'm a DF subscriber for years), I make enough to be 5 PS5 Pro every month without my wife noticing (for at least 3 months ^-^), and I find it way too expensive... There's no way around this, this is a massive fail.
@JamJam0189 Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? The PS5 and XBSX can't do 4K, let alone 8K. PS5 Pro promises a consistent 4K experience with the potential for 4K 60. That's all. Of course, the PS5 promised the same thing. So did the PS4 Pro. The base PS4 promised a "Full HD experience", as did the PS3. So I'd say expect to be disappointed, but it should at least be an improvement...
And Sony “😢😂”. Especially after seeing how much people payed during the pandemic for a ps5. (Which was over $700). Now you got Xbox bowing down to PlayStation by porting their games and making gamepass more important than their own console. Sony is in a position to make demands after a decade of delivering bangers. $700 over a $1000 pc is a much better deal. Especially since game developers actually care about supporting consoles than pc.
I think Sony might rely on GTA6 to push the sales as it will not be available for PC for a long time. Having PSSR to make it run in decent image quality and framerate could make a difference for some enthusiasts. But the price of 800-920€ is just insane. I mean 70€ for PS+ Essential plus the generally higher price point for PS5 Games, if you calculate the price over some years you're definitely cheaper taking some extra money and buying a Mid to High-End AMD PC. That's what I did this year.
The price is far, far too high for me to consider. £800 for the PS5 Pro. Absolutely no chance. £600 was my limit and I'm including the disc drive with that, which should NOT be an additional purchase and should be included in the package.
Me too. Add disc drive and a stand to it too and you are over 800 Euros. And this is not even a new generation of console, its based on 4 year old technology with slight upgrades.
@@03chrisv I meant the whole package is 4 year old technology. And the upgrade is not significant that justifies double the price, even 4 year after launch. (400 Euros vs 800 Euros.)

$950 Canadian +$100 for the drive + $50 for the stand = $1100 BEFORE you factor in 8 years of subscriptions. $1750 if you had the base and upgrade. Thats fairly high end PC money to end up with 6800 performance in 2024..
@@B-macalypse Looking at best buy prices and the claimed PS5 pro price of $959.99CAD. Your paying $1242.96 on the console, disk drive and stand. No second controller, no games. Microsoft have made a lot of questionable decisions lately, but not releasing a half step console upgrade this generation is the right move.

microsoft isn’t doing a refresh cause no one would buy it lol
They say this now but there is no chance they won't launch an upgrade.
With GTA6 coming, they won't let Sony propose the better experience exclusive to their hardware.
Exactly. As soon as the "PS4 Pro" was released, it suddenly became acceptable to release games that _only_ ran well on the Pro - and reviewers only bothered reviewing games on the Pro, making it tough to get a handle on what the humble "base console" experience would be like. Mid-gen hardware refreshes can get in the sea.

I wonder if the inflated price of the disc drives for these driveless console models isn't really about extracting maximum value at all, but about getting the user base to give up on the idea but without obviously forcing them to. So they'll be left thinking "they gave us the option and we chose not to prioritise it so it was our decision". They obviously want to go in the maximum DRM direction but without making their loyal customers flock to the PC.

Taking this into account, we get a more down to earth comparison:
USD 700 (Not including tax)
GBP 583.33 (not including VAT 20%)
EUR 666.66 (not including VAT 20%) (note that this varies by country, but ranged from 19 to 23% aprox.)
JPY 109,090.90 (not including VAT 10%)
Converting all these to USD (today), we end up with these prices:
USA: USD 700
UK: USD 763.50
EU: USD 735.72
JPN: USD 768.74
So yes, the PS5 professional pricing is slightly more expensive outside the US, but not by that much, fortunately.
(Then we remember some states don't have sales tax in the USA, and most don't even reach 9%... but Sony has no say here.)
You mean it's different from the land of the free where they are pretty much used to getting victimized by big corporations yes 😂
Finally, somebody with sense.
But there is (tax included) only below Japan price. Not Europe. So if i understand they are all tax included or only Japan.
Edit: mistakenly repeated BlackPaperMoon18's name when I wanted to refer to coliander4180's on the 4th paragraph.

$950 Canadian +$100 for the drive + $50 for the stand = $1100 BEFORE you factor in 8 years of subscriptions. $1750 if you had the base and upgrade. Thats fairly high end PC money to end up with 6800 performance in 2024..
You forgot to add the tax too. With tax it's 1180 just for the console.
@@B-macalypse Looking at best buy prices and the claimed PS5 pro price of $959.99CAD. Your paying $1242.96 on the console, disk drive and stand. No second controller, no games. If you want a pro controller or their Portal controller with the screen add on, that would add an extra $305 after tax for just one of those. Or a regular controller for $107.33. So $1547.96 or $1350.29 if you go the regular controller route.
Anyway you cut it these are horrible prices, to the point I see no reason to even consider owning this machine. I got burnt on the last Ps4 pro that they advertised as 4k capable, but then put a 1080p blueray player in it that I would never use because its 1080p and not 4k. There is no way I'm buying a Pro model without a 4k blueray player included going forward, and certainly not at these price points.
I'm factoring the trade-in on the price. GameStop will likely give you a $500 credit towards the pro.
I got $250 for my PS4 towards my Pro that was $500
Edit: Even given that, the chances of me getting it just went down the pssr!
@@canadianguy1955 yeah I hear ya ps is nuts and they can snack on mine at these prices. I cant believe that it was a 1080 and not 4k drive in the ps pro what the hell how would a dick based game output at 4k then weird
@@B-macalypse blue rays used for movies and games access the data differently. The PS4 pro can do 4k video output for apps and games. It cannot however read the 4k UHD blueray disks for movies. They only read the older generation ones that do movies in 1080p. Which is what the games are stored on.
Showcasing black myth wukong would of been a good opportunity to showcase the differences it’s mainly the third party games that suffer with the graphics mode aside from fps
