Compassionate man. A heart of gold he has.
Absolutely. History tells us that communism is synonymous with compassion. Thank you, Professor.

Nothing is free. The professor has generous supporters who enable us to benefit, similar to a charitable donation. I'm grateful to them and the professor!
Not free. I am a subscriber thru Patreon
I can't be a subscriber because I'm from the third world (which means my education is better than the people who voted for Trump) and I don't HAVE the money to pay for this brilliant and generous mind
Not so impressed. He criticizes offshoring, yet criticizes Trump’s attempts to manipulate the free market. He criticizes capitalism but offers no alternative. Democrats traditionally lean socialist, so his thesis that the two parties don’t vie to evolve the economic system is flat wrong. Meh, just another talking head telling you what you want to hear. The whole tirade that US is unequal and in decline is irrelevant too. Having more Elon Musks in the country hurts our equality index but does not make us poorer, you have to look at the median income that has been rising astronomically over the last 50 years. The reality is that we don’t need to work in factories and can still afford more stuff than our parents did. Rich people and corporations tend to serve the worker as they compete for talent.
The U.S. government has A LOT to learn from the Chinese one, about how to manage a country successfully for the well being and quality of life of its people.
Many Americans suffer a lot financially under Capitalism. They simply don't understand that Capitalism is what they should channel their frustrations at, rather than at one another, or at China or Russia. Under Capitalism financial crises are created every certain number of years, it's not a stable economic system. The Capitalism approach that is supposed to bring a trickle down economy, has been proven again and again not to be working.
As long as so many Americans continue to vote for the two mainstream political parties (Republican and Democratic), both which are aligned with the extreme implementation of Capitalism in the United States, the country will continue to endure financial hardship caused by inflation and other adverse outcomes of Capitalism, such as huge inequality. The U.S. government (and many of its people) thinks it still manages / controls the world. It no longer does ...
It's time for implementing Socialism in North America, similar to the one with Chinese characteristics that's implemented in China.
Thank you so much for this wonderful talk, Professor Wolf!
Thank you Richard Wolff for shedding all important light on deep rooted problems we all face in the US. May we be successful in our endeavors to address the causes of problems and not fiddle around becoming overwhelmed by symptoms.
As ever, spot on analysis by The Prof Wolff. We need his voice to be heard at grass root levels and to challenge our politicians to deal with his perspectives.
I think it would be a good idea to let polititians listen to him! ❤
I've been watching quite many youtube videos by economics professor Richard Wolff here and I agree with him on everything that he says.
All is very persuading and illuminating.
But one thing that I cannot understand is: why isn't he suggesting a set of concrete proposals of actions to be taken to fix all those problems that capitalism has created in the United States?
Obviously, Wolff is a champion of Marxism and socialism, but he never calls explicitly for the population to start voting for the Socialist Party of the United States in order to bring it to power in Congress and hopefully in the presidential election.
Why is he not doing so?
If only more people would just listen to Prof Wolff ! Prof. make it all so plain. I appreciate you Prof. Wolff !

Try looking into EVERY he says, not what you're just courious about. He's lying to you.
@@onegurl9Wolff is a Marxist.
He believes in redistributing Currency.
He makes that clear, you offer no evidence of lies?
You appear to be the one who is not telling the truth?
Wolff overlooks the involvement of Robert Mercer and Company, in 2016 as well as the 2020 election that saw Trumps Childern fail to produce results without Mercer's guidance.
This go-round appears to involve the selection of the same old faces and the presentation of very large amounts of money to produce the proper results.
The Electoral Industry "reported" almost $15 billion being involved in 2020 election business budget that directed that Election.
The Investors who bought Hillary the Delegates needed to insure that her services as a Political Prostitute were available, this Year appear to have consolidated their funds with the Investors who buy stock in vote counting machinery Corporations.
We can discuss the industry that supposedly insures the validity of the results if you choose to indulge in that discussion?
But the appearance of the most corrupt government since the Gilded Age being installed by an overwhelming amount of money being applied to getting the desired results desired, does appear evident.

I will finish with one more quick comment. A quote from Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore author, scholar and diplomat talk about the contrast between the US and China.
“In this century, for more than 20 years, the US has been fighting and not winning while China has been winning and not fighting.”
You can sort of see how the US might tear itself apart if China is patient and calm enough. The main concern is how much of the world the US will take down with it
@@sichambers9011 The US Colonial Empire that at one time delivered enough Tribute payments to keep the US Currency afloat, seem to have found better places to spend their money.
@@sichambers9011 We agree on that terrible question. I don’t know if anyone in power understand that there are limits. I don’t know if they are sane.

The French Revolution appears to be returning to remove the Oligarchs from their position of Power?
The ability to recognize that fact that Monarchs were not appointed by a Deity,
now returns as the Oligarchs purchase power with the Candidates they suggest.
Money is not an apparent God, and Fiat Currency is as fickle as Hookers when the money stops flowing.
The Currency Crisis that is lately becoming apparent,
seems to limit the Godlike abilities of the Oligarchy?
Thank you Dr. Wolff.
I appreciate Richard Wolff's ability to speak to people with a novice understanding of economics.
How many products we buy in America are at least partially (and usually wholly) manufactured outside the US?
Everything from cars to refrigerators to TVs to video games and computers and phones are going to go UP.
Wages will not.
Plumbing and Electrical are a couple building products that are hard to find from US firms.
The Tariffs will drive up Home construction costs as well.
The system of getting all the low cost Nations to produce everything cheap, will become expensive.
The prospect of Tax being added to everything sure does make Trump appear silly?
But China has opened a lot of new Markets elsewhere that can sustain their Economy.
So the Idea of adding tax to Costs does look like Trump is a bleeding Fool?

The whole 'declining empire in denial' thing reminds me of Isaac Asimov's Galactic Empire in his Foundation series, which was loosely based on The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. Even when there was a science developed to foresee the future and the future was nothing short of catastrophic, the Galactic Empire preferred to quash all discussion rather than to try to take the necessary steps to avoid said Fall. The experts were exiled. Politicians relied purely on propaganda to maintain their power. All while the once and mighty Empire crumbled bit by bit, world by world, into a colossal Dark Age. Getting those vibes now.
A book I recommend to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of how our political system evolved is "First Principles: What America's Founders Learned from the Greeks and Romans," by Thomas Ricks. Ricks examines the influences over the thinking of those most responsible for the making of national governance under a written constitution. There is no question that the greatest influence was exerted by James Madison, who had studied in detail the experience of all past republics and why they eventually succumbed to despotism and collapse. Madison was hopeful but far from certain that the American republic would survive, and survive despite the fact that important principles (not the least of which was endorsing the enslavement of some human beings by other human beings) were sacrificed in order to form a union of the newly-formed sovereign states. The protection of slavery as an institution confirmed that the most important function of government was to be the protection of property, however property was to be defined.
The subsequent history of the United States of America has been a history of ongoing violence in defense of property over human rights.
Human rights? What are those and what is their source?
@@jgalt308 The existence of rights (as distinct from privileges) comes from the experience of cooperative behavior as essential to the nurturing of the young to reasonably ensure each person reaches the age of competency. Also integral to the basis for rights is the limit of the action's of the individual within the bounds of one's liberty (i.e., do no harm to others), beyond which (as John Locke explained) such behaviors fall in the realm of license, which jeopardizes the cooperative relations required for the just society and must be prevented.
One could point to morals derived by philosophers or ideologies, but why cant we just listen to the majoirty of the working class no matter their party preference? If we do that I think its more than reasonable that human rights include things like universal healthcare (working class physical and mental health continue to decline), financial security (which could come from jobs guarantees, democratic workplaces and economy, massive reforms to debt), less war that we can now all see the horrors of on the ground through our phones (want a real step to world peace? Make war and any material support of it or others' wars only doable by house Rep vote), national abortion rights at some early/mid term level. All this can and should be considered human/peoples rights, and also linked to the economy and how it, along with technological progress generally, is not working to better the lives of working class people here.
@@Porfi-1911 Sadly, efforts by socialist workers to unite workers worldwide in opposition to nationalism and wars of territorial conquest have thus far failed. Nationalism is an extended form of tribalism. Given the passage of just one or two generations, most of those whose grandparents were immigrants to any country are assimilated into the dominant tribe. Tribal hierarchy calls not for extended cooperation but demands sovereignty of action. Only a global confederation would potentially reduce the conflict and increase cooperation.

I loved this talk, but 3 things:
1:12:54 Social security is actually indexed to CPI.
59:25 The U.S. hasn't had a major recession in 15 years, which is a historical anomaly. This is one of the legitimately unique characteristics of our current neoliberalism era: how the Federal Reserve is using unique new fiat tricks to manage the business cycle. Normally this would undermine the dollar, but every other central bank is doing it too so tbh I have no idea how this ends.
42:00 China has been going through a serious economic crisis for 2+ years now. So while I agree China will probably overtake the U.S. this century, it's not as clear cut as Mr. Wolff makes it out to be.
Thank you again, Mr. Wolff and D@W. This channel is a gold mine for political and economic commentary. Excited for the next talk in January! Cheers from Japan.
Perhaps the fiat trickery lies on proverbial paper only because it certainly feels like we've been in a major recession for that length of time due to the stagnation of wages to which Dr. Wolff referred.
