  • Here are some techniques for the fiddle sound like heard in the tune Cajun Fiddle by Don Rich. You can use these techniques to get this sound on other tunes like Jambalaya, or Jolie Blond. Mike plays the A part of the tune for you, but you can hear the entire tune at • Don Rich 'Cajun Fiddle' . Great steel guitar solo after the fiddle part! Thanks for suggesting to make a lesson for techniques used in this tune. See the link at the end for the B part.

      I learned the tune from Hyram Posey when I was about 16. I met him at Weezer. He was so nice he went home to Texas and made me a cassette tape of lots of great tunes, including this one. It was written by D'Jalma Garnier III.

      @@BluegrassWithFriends Indeed. Thank you for the encouragement. I've been a playing guitar for over 25 years now. It'd take me a while to get fiddle down(I've tried on a friends), and I'll stick to the fretted instruments for now. There's a nice looking banjo for for sale at the local music shop for $100. You seem like a good teacher. I will be watching many of your videos in the years to come.

    Im 50 yrs young & started self teaching in Sept 2020. I'm liking the way you you teach. Thanks! Do you have any tips for how to relax shoulders?

    • @BluegrassWithFriends
      @BluegrassWithFriends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Relaxing the shoulders, when i practice i can only do one thing at a time! After i learn the song and can think about something else, thats when i play it and concentrate on relaxing. Try it on a song you know well. Thanks Very Much,
      Mike

    Isn't Jolie Blonde a Waltz? What bow pattern would you use?

    • @BluegrassWithFriends
      @BluegrassWithFriends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, waltz time would use run ponypony (1 2&3&). Any combination of 3 quarter notes and/or six 1/8th notes. You could count this: 1& 2 3 1 2& 3 ect.. and mix different ones to make a two measure pattern such as: 1 2& 3& 1& 2 3.
