You can tell Theo truly appreciates this man’s talent.
Totally and Theo should appreciate this song more than most.
He actually appreciates cocaine more.
My favorite part was where Theo said literally nothing in response to the artist whom Theo apparently "respects"!
@@Ppluvr215what?
@@Ppluvr215 Listen to the song, and lay off the cocaine bubba.
Cleanest pickin both sides of the mississippi
Billy is amazing but Brian Sutton will pick him under the table and billy would tell you that himself.
You mean the sippi
Checkin him out now. Theo was the one that turned me on to Bishop Gunn and Billy has the "it". Also guitar skills, I always liked Rodrigo y Gabriella acoustically.
@TaylorBronn theyre badass too, love some classical/fingerstyle stuff
Yeah dudes amazing 💯♥️
Nice to see a 1940 D-28 played instead of collected.
Definitely! Most people would have that behind glass 😂😂
The surest way to wreck a vintage guitar is to not play it everyday. Those damned collectors have hundreds of irreplaceable instruments going to seed from inactivity .
@@garypaquin9571 breaks my heart to see instruments collecting dust! Everyone should have the opportunity to play
Amen! Billy is going to put that thing through it's paces too, and it's ready for it.
The Carter vintage videos of warehouses full of prewar stuff is wild! Old folks and hoarding.
I love how excited Theo is to have the privilege of having Billy playing across from him.
He could not sing along.
Billy is just an absolute guitar legend. Insane how far he’s come
Absolutely, especially cool to see from the perspective of a young guy like me who was raised in Asheville (where billy plays a lot and has a lot of history) by parents who followed Jerry Garcia. Its amazing what Billy has built
Phrasing is impeccable!
Reminds me of the squidbillies
Dude is also an immense drug addict. Spent entire podcast talking about how much crack meth speed DMT etc hes done , glorified junky
The guy was playing small rooms and side stages 7 years ago. Crazy
Billy is what the music industry needs. A real musician!
Seems to be a movement in process
Everyone seems to be done with the over produced garbage MS pushes these days.
Rather watch a guy with a guitar and mic in the woods
There is a literal artistic genius coming from across the pond I highly recommend, covers many many genres
The artist is Ren and my god is he talented in acting singing musician rapping and more. Def worth the search
Respectfully, there’s a lot of incredible music, TH-cam is a great resource for it. Even Spotify recommends artists if you’re looking hard enough at the right niche genres. 👍🏻
You played that guitar!! Cocaine blues!!!!❤
Hillbilly noise bs gtfo
you don't listen to enough music saying stupid shit like that
Theo's "Okay, man.. Brother" came from his heart.
Okay, okay, Amen* brother
Billy bringing back bluegrass like Stevie Ray brought back the blues in the 80’s. It’s cool to see him having so much success doing it his way. It shows people appreciate talent he’s introducing bluegrass to people that would of never listened to it
Bluegrass never went anywhere, though.
thats actually a great comparison about SRV. Ive thought the same thing
It's really a combination of "Old Time Music", and Blue Grass, Bluegrass is kind of (New Time Music), Bill Monroe and the bluegrass boys really put the fine point on ''bluegrass", Monroe and Elvis sort of evolved along during the same time frame. Bluegrass really was kind of "New-Grass" though like everything else it stood on the shoulders of giants. Strings is refreshing, his hard fast driving picking is distinctly reminiscence of Doc Watson. All should bear in mind Strings was a hard rocker in his teen years, but then he grew up, ha, maybe I'll get there.
@@aaroncaudle1408I agree. I can see the comparison of the two in their own respected genres
And if SRV was still around could you imagine him teaching Billy some ole time secrets
Theo looks like the radio station owner in o brother where art thou kinda mumbling and swaying back and forth
Lol had same thought
Haha love it
“Ten dolla a-piece”
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Its awesome that theo is a connoisseur of good ass soulful music.
DANGERDOOM pfp such a W
@CosmoKramer88 thanks g, I love it all. good shit is good shit. long live the MF supervillain
@@PoeticInsanitylove to see a dude with taste for everything respect man
Billy’s true talent grabbing that guitar and making everyone smile. So awesome.
0:15 "Duuuuuude" you can tell Theo is genuinely stoked to hear Billy play!
never forget seeing him play dust in a baggie probably over a decade ago on the youtubes, what a g money all star
I don’t listen to music from his genre very often but I’ll always love that video. The rawness/ lyrics are so good.
Who could have known that the green shirt guy with the satchel would grow up to be Theo Von? 😁
@@blitzinstripes3788 I just realized he's the guy that was smoking the unlit cigarette😂
@@blitzinstripes3788lol he does kinda resemble barefoot ben
There tons of people making good music like this, billy just shining a light on it @Jukkahkan
Damn that boy can pick
you ever get a chance to see him live, do yourself a favor and dont miss it
@@PoeticInsanityI wish I could have seen him when he playing bars and festivals
@@tedlivermore6955 ikr
I think he's much like Roy Clark❤
Roy was a legend.
Billy's voice and guitar-tone is so good it already sounds like a studio recording.
I've come back to this atleast 6 or 7 times since the pod came out
About 10 times now for me
th-cam.com/video/Ub-naDJbKFY/w-d-xo.html
@4:44 Felt Theo yelling “BILLY” in my soul ❤
He needs Theo in a music vid bangin a bucket with a spoon or somethin
😂❤️
I would watch!!!❤
This is pure talent, an acoustic guitar and a natural voice, no electrical voice over.
Well, nobody (is) Doc Watson, but he's Doc Watson - ish.
Yep,and still sounds great
@@oceancrosby4578Doc Watson is okay at best. His playing is great, but his songwriting and vocals lack. Billy is extremely well rounded, but also towards the top in all areas.
@@bbbbbbb51you better not let Billy hear you say that because he would completely disagree considering I saw him play a show on Doc Watson’s 100th birthday and he played nothing but Watson’s music so Billy obviously disagrees with you.
Billy Strings is by far the most talented musical prodigy in this decade, god bless you
Check out Marcus King
@@rstudnerIf you prefer soul and blues but bluegrass and country it,s billy all the way
@@rstudner will do good music is good music talent is undeniable
Marcus and Billy together is a great listen too! Wow.
@@mikemacdude yeah lonesome fugitive and Hickory wind👍
Billy Strings is always memorizing on that guitar, what a generational talent.
*Mesmerizing
Yep,love watching him pick and sing
Theo the goat for having him i been listening for years
bro my little brother snuck into all 3 halloween shows without a ticket and got a poster all 3 nights. was the first one to the frame shop in town with the completed souron 3-piece graphic. Just look up billy strings halloween poster 2022
I love billy but my brother is the superfan fr
Fr
Theo's reactions just made me so immeasurably happy
Billy makes it look so easy, seen him live twice, what a phenomenal musician we're lucky to exist in such a great time of bluegrass music!
I tried to replicate his guitar play thinking that I could do it and I didn’t realise I had arthritis in my fingers until then.
“ WOOOW ! “. Theo summed it all up
"hell yeah mane" :)
He's only 31. I love his covers, he picks some great ones and does them all justice. Especially GD songs. Billy and the Kids set in Hawaii he spoke of was amazing. Red rocks show too. And when he busted out with Nutshell in Cincy last year I nearly lost it. He has a long bright future ahead, can't wait to see where it takes him.
Help me out a bit, what are GD songs, I'm still learning the nomenclature.

This is probably one of the top 3 episodes of Theo . Mad how talented Billy is !
Really happy to see Billy and the boys start to get some bigger recognition and a wider audience. Great to see more people take a liking to some good music that you never hear on the radio and mainstream outlets.
2:06 Billy MF Strings saved Theo right there lol
lol yeah Theo didn't seem to quite know where he was going there
Billy is just so quiet and awkward. The complete opposite of Theo lol
Been listening to tpw for 6 years now, Billy performing “cocaine blues” made me legitimately cry. Beautiful moment ❤️
Love how Theo was humble asking him to pick and billy was like yeah I’d love to brother ❤️
Billy has come such a long way but it's been through HARD WORK! That kid toured his ass off to get where he is at. Nothing comes easy in the music biz. Such am amazing talent. I hope we can hang on to him well into his 70's! 🎸♥👍
Billy is an amazing person and an amazing artist
Absolute legend, theo and billy dynamic is unmatched
Yeah that just seemed like a good time eh
Absolutely loved this podcast! Amazing guests as always and a beautiful song to boot
I love the variety of those gusts and how he steers the conversations to revealing and real places. Great episode, Billy is the man.
This is another example of what makes Theo and his podcast so great.
Billy is the man to give a new life to that 48 Martin both legends.
That guitar he is playing, is so highly sought after, this is probably one of the only few that are played regularly haha. What a LEGEND! Thats what it was built for, lets hear some beautiful music. Thanks for giving this to us Billy and Theo.
Wild seeing Billy Strings carrying that 40' D28 around like a work horse! Its the kinda piece you would see in Jimmy Martins grandkids living room.
This is how I truly love Billy Strings…just Billy picking and singing. I remember when the famous video of him and barefoot Ben dropped, I was floored. His…Miss the Mississippi and simple man videos are some of my favorites also.
Rock on Billy Strings !!!!
Yep just play it
jesus, 21 songs... and not like his songs are simple songs either. Damn you are another level and we appreciate you brother!
I watch this video a lot. There are other solo versions of cocaine blues by Billy but Theo's reactions, laughs and unsuccessfully attempting to stem his desire to sing along keeps me coming back.
Love this kid - remember seeing his "Dust in the Baggie" video about ten plus years ago - blew my mind!! so fast man - his meteoric rise is not surprising and is well deserved - great interview and great picking as usual....!!!
Thanks Theo love this clip
Just saw Billy in Nashville and it is by far the best concert I’ve ever been to. Truly amazing how much talent he has.
Did you see him at the Bridgestone or the Ryman?
@@tedlivermore6955 I saw him at the Bridgestone for the Saturday show. Three hours of pure talent. Had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
@@austinlyles6152 Cool, wish I coulda been there .Love Billy and Nashville.
I’m from southern IN so the drive was only about 3 1/2 hrs. Not bad at all. The wife and I decided we are definitely going back to Nashville in the future. We really enjoyed it.
@@austinlyles6152 Yeah that's close.I drove there twice from Ontario, north of Toronto. It,s far but I love the drive through the hills of Appalachia as much as Nashville itself.
Clean and Clear .That one is Done Real Good. Put it in the Can Brother. Thanks for Sharing. 🎶🎸👍
Who wouldn't kill to spend a week with Theo. Straight up legend.
I think this is the most giddy I’ve seen Theo 😂
Love Theo man what a peculiar individual. Love his conversations, they are not interviews
I think Von was star struck.😊 Billy is a sensational musician.
was genuinely blown away when i was listening to this podcast at work and Billy started playing
Instant fan now. Heard of billy before but never properly listened to him. What a talented guy with a great sound!
that is without a doubt the best sounding martin i’ve ever heard. the “hell yeah mayne” at the end was beautiful lmao
That was awesome. The more I see of Billy Strings .....the more I like him and his choice of music!!!! Very eclectic!!!!
This country technique of playing guitar is f amazing !!! Great video !!
This was one of my very favorite This Past Weekend moments evvvvvver!!!
One of the best moments ever on his podcast!
Theo, now you gotta get marcus king on their!
We need more String/King colabs
Absolutely
He needs John Mayer
Marcus sucks lol
that would go crazy if it went like it did with Strings and he gets to play his music
The fucking talent is insane
Great stuff 👏
Couple of real dudes up there. Love both these guys. Keep up the great work yall
Can't explain it but I get a grin from ear to ear whenever I hear him play.
I've probably went to about 15 of his shows since the first one in 2019 and even though I am far too old (37) to be chasing bands around the country I'm gunna go to every single show of his that I have a chance to see because it's the best live performance I've ever been to hands down
I'm 57 and LOVE his concerts❤❤
I m 59 and havent been to a concert in years.Wish I coulda seen Billy when he was still tearing up the bars.
This was so rad ! Amazing job , so natural and effortless he makes it sound.
Yep he makes it look easy
I guess it is for him
Theo is such a good guy! I love his excitement! Love you Theo!
Little Dust in a baggie got me hooked. Billy is great like how he does other kinds of music live to.
this is like part 2 of billys Dust in a Baggie video - theo is shoeless guy chumming along on the side while billy shreds lmaoo
Billy is such a chill dude. He used to jam on his guitar down on Brown's Island in Richmond. I didn't know him crazy well, but I'm really proud of where he's come.
Watched the podcast last week, got hooked on Billy ever since. Thanks Theo and Billy, keep doing the lords work.
"Hell yeah,mane"

He is bringing back bluegrass to the younger generation with a twist.. raw talent ... bluegrass needs recharging and he is doing that ..
Ever notice he is always having fun when he plays.. a lot of other pickers are coming out now dsys.. thats great..
Keep going ...
Exactly, tired of yt players that record something 50 times until its perfect then put it up.Billy dont give an f picks up the six string rocks one out.One shot he dont care
This song is actually called "Let The Cocaine Be" by Doc and Merl Watson
Actually, this is a Grant Brothers tune named “Tell It to me”. First recorded in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1928.
I love seeing Theo having fun.
Excelente video!!
That’s actual talent
An life ain’t easy for a boy named sue
Hella good! Love it!
Theo Von, is a gift. His talent is so rare, he just listens to people. He adds input when its time, but more often than not he just listens. A great man.
How funny would this have been if Theo put on a green shirt, stood up and took his shoes off? I would have died
I can't wait for new Billy Strings, 21 new songs is amazing
Billy is great. Good to see him getting more eyes through Theo
Theos foot tapping the second Billy starts playing. This is awesome!
I love this! Theo reminding me of the guy standing in the background of the "Dust In A Baggie" video from a while back!
It has to be some what refreshing hanging with Theo. He is always excited to listen and talk. LIke a kid man. Theo is my soul animal man.
Forever Young at heart baby
Great singing/playing!! Very enjoyable! :)
That’s unreal class bro cheers from Ireland
