You just solved the last bugaboo I had with this device - being able to rely on its remote for everything associated with the hardware. I no longer need to use my Logitech remote to turn things on and off. So I thank you. More importantly this is maybe the third or fourth video I've seen of yours and I really appreciate your no nonsense, straightforward, clear and unencumbered information. No backstory or long lead-ins or comparisons just what I need to know and why. So thank you again.
Bro , I started buying a bunch of google products then decide to see if there was any youtube channel that focused on just that. I found you guys ! Liked and Subbed !
I hope they improve the support over the buttons. The remotes will have problems with TVs with an input screen as the button will only load the screens and work as scroll. The remote can't actually select the sought after input.
This video was so helpful to me! I recently just got this 2wks ago. Went from using 2 remotes….to following your steps….now I only use ONE remote!!!! Thanks so much! I & my (4) TV’s thank you! 😁
Many thanks for this video - most useful. I didn't notice the two little buttons on the right of my Chromecast remote - duh! Your tutorial at 1:47 showed me the buttons.
Bonus: if your Chromecast is powered independently from the TV, you can use the assistant button even when the TV is turned off. Just give the command and the TV will automatically go to what you want to watch.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I hooked my new Google TV Chromecast up to a ROKU TV and, up until watching your video, had 3 remotes going. Now I'm down to just one. Set the volume to the soundbar and the power/input to the TV. Thanks again.
I got a new remote and paired it to the Chromecast but I’m getting none of those prompts to pair my remote to the TV. I basically get a spinning circle then it says try again. Any idea how to fix that?
Thanks, dude! I've been debating whether to get the Chromecast and I decided not to because we didn't want to use three remotes! Now we don't have to worry about that. 😁👍
I've found that using the Chromecast remote to control my TV volume isn't as nice I'd imagined it would be. In particular, it makes casting a second-class experience, as I can't control the volume from my phone. It's especially bad when using the new Chromecast in an audio group. So I prefer setting Volume control to Chromecast volume, which enables the Chromecast's internal volume control, just like how Chromecast devices have always worked.
Thank god for this video! I was a little peeved when I thought the input button on my remote was pretty much never gonna be used. Now I never have to touch my Samsung remote again! Thank you!
Very usefull information, but is the input button on the remote working to switch back to the antena input for DVBT2 channel? Because i didn't see input antenna option in this video. Greetings from Indonesia. Thx
Piry not all TVs are aupported. I have a Blaupunkt Tv that isnt listed in yhe Chromecast. The popular workaround of selected a Bush TV didnt work either. No CEC or IR blaster for me.
Thanks for sharing ! Assuming you have an Tv app installed that after getting in you need to work with 1-9 digit to get into some channels - how would you do it? can you do it from the google controller or you suggest to work the the CEC feature and the default controller comes with the TV brand?
Thanks and nice video; I noticed that when I shutdown my tv with the power button of the chromecast, the chromecast still powered on. Any setting to shutdown both at the same time? Many thanks...
I have a hisense A6 series. When i click on "add new" and then click on "TV" nothing happens, no tv brands show up. What can I do? I disabled CEC both on tv and Chromecast.
If you press and hold the TH-cam button on the remote you can set up that button to default to either TH-cam or TH-cam TV when it is pressed. The factory default is TH-cam. I switched mine to TH-cam tv. This is really useful if you're using chromecast mainly for TH-cam tv.
Hey I have a TCL Roku tv I just got the Google tv I love it but unfortunately I can't use the left, right, up and down controls on the remote on my TV home screen. When I power on my tv I then have to go left to be able to access the google tv input to access google tv, I also cannot scroll through inputs as you can in the video. I'm wondering if this is just my tv or am I missing a step and there is a way to control this?
Thanks for this tip. My lone issue with my new TV is that I'm forced to use its remote for input switching, but now I can stick to just the Chromecast remote.
I tried the remote and discovered if you have both a soundbar and a TV it will only power off one of the devices. It cannot control the cable box. Remember it only has one scroll wheel that controls the smart TV features of the Chromecast. Once you switch inputs to the cable box you need another remote for it. The best solution is and always will be a Harmony remote. You can set it up to manage all of your activities and devices and it will do everything the original remotes do, but better. You can also connect your bluetooth headphones/earbuds to the chromecast but means they will only work when you are watching Google TV or casting to the device. Once you go back to the cable box you get no sound. If at all possible connect your wireless buds to the TV that way you get sound for all connections.
Thanks for the video, switched from CEC to IR. I noticed you also had a chromecast ultra plugged into the same tv. When I do this the chromecast with google tv flickers so I can't keep the ultra plugged in. Do you experience the same thing?
So is “casting” with a phone or tablet still part of this like I read about the older models? I’ve only used Roku and Firesticks and when I read about chrome cast, I wasn’t impressed with that casting business. Now that this has a remote (it was a gift, I haven’t tried it) does it now operate just like other streaming devices?
Yes to both. This newer model with the remote lets you browse media and apps without needing to cast content from your phone. Although casting is also supported and still remains an option for those who prefer it.
So my remote was working for volume & on/off until today . I tried the way you showed but the volume not changing or the off button or the input. My app icons looks a bit different. Could it be a chromcast auto update screwed it up?
Is it also possible to control the Android TV OS inside your smart TV? I have a 2016 Sony with Android TV and my remote has some problems with going up and left. Would love to replace the remote with a Chromecast remote.
Hi, I have this device, I really like it, but I noticed that there is a clicking sound when pressing the down portion of the directional pad on the remote.(Clicking on the remote not on the TV) Beyond that, the device is very solid, but I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how I can fix that clicking sound on the directional pad. Thanks for your time.
This helped a lot. After LG flat panel died, I replaced with Hisense panel and a new Denon AVR. Unfortunately the 9 codes for the Denon volume control did not work. I tried the Auto CEC and sure enough I can now control the volume on the Denon AVR. Wife is loving having only one remote.
I have a Panasonic tv and Samsung soundbar, I can turn on/off individually but at the end power bottom can be program to only turn on/off tv or soundbar but not both! Is there a way for me to choose both devices when setting the power bottom? I have Auto(CEC), TV(CEC), Chromecast, Samsung Soundbar (IR), and Panasonic (IR). I only can pick one!!! No problem doing that with Amazon fire stick!!!
Is there any advantage to using CEC instead of IR? I tried the option and it turns on the TV as well but when I turn it off the TV stays on with a blue screen...
When I click select device and then choose TV it doesn't open a menu to pick a brand / device. Somehow my TV remote can control the Chromecast, though, just not the other way round. Anyone got a fix?
Hello, thank you for the quick video tutorial. I added the remote (went through all those steps) but noticed that the mute-button doesn’t work. Example: watching TH-cam TV and need to mute the audio and nothing happens 🤷♀️
I didn't even realize there was a volume control. Duh! My menu appearance was a little different, but I was able to figure it out. I also found that I can pause TH-cam videos by tapping the button in the middle of the wheel at the top of the remote. Cool!
Can you help me ? I try to reset a few times already but the problem still exists. When i set up remote buttons and add new device and select any options, it always show "Something Went Wrong" and Try again. I cannot choose anything. Now, I cannot use my Google Remote to control the volume, power button and input button. I try to search on Google but no results. Please help.

Good to see things are not broken. Like when I click on tv it just takes me back over and over. So sick of everything being broke
Same for me
Same for me :(
Do you manage to solve? Here lg TV works only Power button and output volume wont work...

What if our tv brand is not shown from those tv brands selection?
Year 2024 nothing your still screwed. (I use a projector) 😂
Glad you took the time to show how this is done. Very much appreciated!
Can you control more than "power, volume and input" on your tv? Can you switch "normal" television channels?
I just discovered that I can at least pause TH-cam videos by tapping the button in the middle of the wheel on the remote.
Is there a way to get the remote to control the 'menu' button to display settings? I want to be able to adjust brightness and things!
This video was so helpful to me! I recently just got this 2wks ago. Went from using 2 remotes….to following your steps….now I only use ONE remote!!!! Thanks so much! I & my (4) TV’s thank you! 😁
Great video.can we change tv channels using google remote?
You are awesome Rob! I had it for couple of months but never can get power and volume to work. Now it works perfectly!! Thank you.
Many thanks for this video - most useful. I didn't notice the two little buttons on the right of my Chromecast remote - duh! Your tutorial at 1:47 showed me the buttons.
What if our tv brand is not shown from those tv brands selection? our tv is ace and there's no ace tv on the selection, what should i choose?
This is exactly what i wanted to know, clear and concise thank you!
Watch your videos all the time. Very informative. Thank you so much!
is there a way to change the channels as well by the chromecast remote ?
or just volume up& down
Just the volume, power and inputs.
Yeah that sucks! Then we have to use the other remote anyway..
Any particular reason to go IR instead of CEC?
I click on TV and it just takes me back to the add device option, doesnt pull up a list of tv brands
Bonus: if your Chromecast is powered independently from the TV, you can use the assistant button even when the TV is turned off. Just give the command and the TV will automatically go to what you want to watch.
Alba TV not listed? What do you do if its not listed?
Thank you. Exactly what I'm looking for. Now I can stop wasting my youth finding all the remotes :))
Thank you SO much! Now my remote works the way I want it to work. It was driving me nuts, but this video fixed it all!
It would be good if the directional buttons also could work with IR in different sources so then it truly would be the only remote you neeed.
I had set up everything but that. Thank you for the video to get it set up. It is a great video for setting up the buttons on the remote.
Hello, quick question, what can I do if the tv manufacturer list doesn't appear when I try to " add device" (to set up remote buttons)? Please help
I got a new remote and paired it to the Chromecast but I’m getting none of those prompts to pair my remote to the TV. I basically get a spinning circle then it says try again. Any idea how to fix that?
Same here. Hisense tv. When i clixk on the "add new device" then click on "TV" nothing happens.
@@GothAudiophiledo you solved? I have the same issue
Nice video - can the chrome cast change the Chanel?
Hey mate really appreciate your help, you saved me big hustle and money, good on you bud
Thanks, dude! I've been debating whether to get the Chromecast and I decided not to because we didn't want to use three remotes! Now we don't have to worry about that. 😁👍

You click TV and get a list of brands. Mine goes back to the previous screen to choose TV again.

If you factory reset your Chromecast it should be fixed. I had the same issue and this resolved it.
Piry not all TVs are aupported. I have a Blaupunkt Tv that isnt listed in yhe Chromecast. The popular workaround of selected a Bush TV didnt work either. No CEC or IR blaster for me.
Can you please share with us the entire list of TVs available? That would be really helpful, and I can't find it anywhere on the internet.
Is it a matter of making sure you have the hdmi port that allows consoles to turn the tv on (or use the tv remote to control the console)?
OMG THANK YOU IT HELPED ME SO MUCH
Thanks for sharing !
Assuming you have an Tv app installed that after getting in you need to work with 1-9 digit to get into some channels - how would you do it? can you do it from the google controller or you suggest to work the the CEC feature and the default controller comes with the TV brand?
Does it support Haier?

thank you for clear information. How can I copy a letter, or link with google tv remote?
Can the chromecast remote rewind and fast forward as well?
does it work with a sheild remote too?

Someone please explain how having the ability to change inputs is useful if you can’t use the remote to change channels when the input is on TV?
Exactly. Its USELESS
Worked great! So straight forward and helpful

Thnx Rob. I have a sound system on Bluetooth as well. How do I set up TV & Sound bar all together?
That’s the same question I’m stuck on bud
if i have chinese cheap no name tv that not in the list can i learn from the original remote control directly to the google remote¿

Good remote tips. Can you make a video about the best password manager for Chromebook? I don't want Chrome saving my passwords. Seems too risky.
I have a Westinghouse and went through the setup just like you showed and it refuses to work.
Use samsung as your brand
@@Brian-xi3kz Thanks. It worked. I figured there had to be a way since I've been able to setup other remotes with that TV.

I accidentally deleted my remote so can you please make a tutorial on how to fix that :)
