for anyone trying this with an iphone, you need 2 phones (i did it with 2 iphones) turned on hotspot on one and connected to it with the other before starting the setup. also when you connect to the hotspot, click the info ℹ️ next to the hotspot name and turn off all toggles (privacy protection and maximize cap and all else) it’s going to give you a privacy warning but this is the only way i was able to connect after trying again and again. after turning everything off and trying again it was able to connect finally. hope it helps all fellow iphone users as it was a bit of a headache but i didn’t give up 😅
everything else is as the video says, choose the hotspot you are already connected to, enter password and it should go thru after that
So when u Connect in The future, are u only able to Connect if u have another phone?

I just got a new phone, so everything was disconnected, and I/we were seriously bummed b/c I've always had to ask someone to connect our Chromecast. S.O.S... can you (or someone) help?
At the point when it asks me to turn on the Wi-Fi, after flicking on Wi-Fi (w/out clicking on anything), it tells me "Warning: Turning ON Wi-Fi will turn OFF Mobile Hotspot."
...I'm about to click on OK, but given what the warning says, I'm guessing this won't work for me. Any suggestions?

SUCCESS! I've been trying for ages (5 yrs on and off?) to overcome hotel rooms where there is a password to connect so the hotel wifi: the key moment (for me) was at 1.43 where it is explained '"the trick is..." and it worked. thanks Sam...maybe you might post a vid under the title 'how to chromecast when the hotel wifi has a password but also, to any vid, add the advice, that once you've connected everything up as instructed, go into your phone and connect to the hotel WIFI so as to not use your mobile data...maybe I've got that wrong but I've just done it and all is still working.

For Samsung Galaxy S23 (Ultra) users:
I was able to get this to work after a bunch of messing around. The main thing I did differently than in the video was that in the hotspot settings, I went to "Configure" --> "Advanced", and then I enabled the option for "Wi-Fi Sharing". I then saved the settings, turned my Wi-Fi back on, and connected to my home Wi-Fi network. I also disabled my "AdGuard" local VPN as I suspect that may have been interfering. Then I was able to go back into the Google Home app, enter the "other network" settings for the chromecast, and then try to save it a few times. It still acted like it couldn't connect to the chromecast the first few times, but eventually it got to the screen where it just says "Connecting your chromecast" or "Trying to connect" or something like that for more than 30 seconds. When it was stuck there for a while, I force quit the Google Home app, and after I opened it back up, the Chromecast was there, and I was able to cast to it 👍
I'm glad you got it working... but seems like you had another issue all together 😅 it's pretty simple to connect Chromecast and your phone on your home Wi-Fi network.

@explosivelybrilliant OMG...Truly, you are brilliant 👏🏽 😀 👌. I have 2 Chromecasr. For over 7 years, I've tried everything possible to connect my phone data to my Chromecast.
Samsung reps kept telling me it was impossible. My network said the same, too.
There's no videos explaining what you've shared with us, which is priceless. I only found out yesterday that mirroring and using phone data are totally 2 separate things 🤯. Once i knew this, everything fell into place.
For several years, ppl and self-help videos were saying that all you need to do is mirror. They made out that WiFi & data are in mirroring.😂
Again, thanks to your info that said "wifi sharing," for the 1st time, I was able to mirror on to my TV using the Samsung app.
I can now activate my video doorbell, too, by using wifi sharing option. Thank you.😊❤

@SamCambetis does it use the Hotspot data when casting? For example, I have unlimited data but only 10gb of hotspot data so if it uses the hotshot data I would be severely limited.

Well i've never given up on anything, usually never involved electronics like this before, usually something mechanical being a mechanic/ironworker but it worked somehow, color me lucky! Some screens were much different but kinda fumbled my way through them 🙂. Guy at Walmart was trying to sell me internet, I said I'd use my phone, I'm a man of my word. How you figured this out have no idea, zero, zip nada but thanks !!!

Hi! Thank You for the HotSpot Tip! Felt like I was the only Dude, on Earth, who can't make my Chromecast Ultra display as "Secure" on the massive list of SSIDs listed in my neighborhood. So I simply unplugged the unit last month until I saw your video about using our phone's Hotspot instead. I know, for a fact, when my Phone's Hotspot SSID shows up on the big neighborhood list, it always says *secure.* Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong with my Chromecast that's leaving it "wide open" on the internet?

Can I ask one you've reset the chromecast and set it all up to your hotspot will the chromecast remember the hotspot everything once its turned off and unplugged? You need 2 phones . One for the hotspot and the other one to cast. I experimented with one phone as in the video with the same results you had. You need 2 phones.

Just wondering I have used my chromecast dongle before I had homebroadband and seeing I just have my phone Internet now, do I have to factory reset the dongle to use it again

Does this allow you to cast (using unlimited data) to the CC or are you streaming on (limited) hotspot?
Does this mean online this phone can use the chromecast? Or can you set it up so different ppl can use the chromecast using their own hotspot on their phone. Trying to figure out if this is a viable option in a shared living room tv scenario

Mine gets up to 4:00 but closing and reopening doesn't show the new device (tried a few times and also from the start). It shows the google screen on the tv but nothing on Google home app or any options to cast the screen (other than link with tv code)

It took a bit of messing around but I got there. I think my phone is a slightly newer version so it wasn’t quite the same. I used the set up on the remote rather than my phone. I also found that my phone has a relatively short period to be detected for hotspot. Nice I hit hotspot back off and then on again it connected.

Set this all up yesterday till today it wouldn't connect. Try to begin afain from Factory reset. My phone doesn't have some things coming up like the video. Hours of trying again completely shattered with it not connecting. 😢
Hey guys the google home is bot available in my country is there away i can connect to my chromecast without the app.

1. I reset the Chromecast
2. Turn off the home Wi-Fi
3. Initiate the mobile hotspot
4. Connect the s phone to the mobile hotspot Network.
5. On Google home add new device and it takes you through the exact same steps as if you were setting up on a home Wi-Fi network . Hope this helps.
When I enter it manually it disconnects from my hotspot as and connects to the Chromecast wifi! So frustrating!

Hey Kurt, can you explain a bit more? Not sure what you mean. You shouldn't need to have your phone wifi turned on at all. Just make sure you have your phone data on. And then go and turn your hotspot on.
@@SamCambetis As I'm stepping through the Google home process it states that I need to turn on wifi (as you show), but then the only option it gives is to Activate wifi. Then my phone warns me that activating wifi will shut off the mobile Hotspot. That's where I get stuck. If I activate wifi the mobile Hotspot turns off. I can't seem to move forward without turning wifi on (and then the whole process stops because there is no more Hotspot.
I'm not to sure why it would be doing that. What brand phone are you using? not that it should really matter, but it will be interesting to know if anyone else with the same phone is having issues. I am facing the same problem here. What is going on is that in order for you to connect to your chromecast you will need your wifi on (note that it will force your hotspot to be off if you do on your wifi). Yes then you can connect to your chromecast... However when you now connect to a network (you won't be able to connect to Hotspot at this moment... As it was off on the previous step). So if you attempt to turn on your Hotspot, then your wifi will be off... Then now it will state that you aren't able to find your chromecast as it is nowhere to be found as you aren't in a networkx as your wifi is off at this stage. That is where we are stuck. My fon is an android phone... Vivo X Fold
Hey. Idk if you managed to figure this out but this happened to me too. What I did was I went Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Hotspot and Tethering -> Mobile Hotspot -> Configure -> Advanced -> Wi-Fi Sharing. Turn Wi-Fi Sharing option ON and click SAVE. Your phone will now be able to have both wifi and mobile hotspot on. Have fun casting! xx
I swear I bought a chomecast years ago and never needed Wi-Fi or hotspot i just downloaded the app and it connected using my phones internet it just mirrored my phone and I would go to TH-cam and cast it to the chomecast. This doesn’t work anymore, I’m so confused I just need something I can mirror my phone to so I can watch TH-cam on my tv I don’t have wifi or hotspot on my phone just data
For me i turned my wifi off first. Then turned it back on after it was connected.
I have problem with getting up the pairing number. When searching in the app it just comes up as Chromecast TV, but no number, so i get stuck in this step....
After it didn't connect i put on my hotspot, and then it connected.
It might work for you too.
