After using Chromecast for over a decade one of my Chromecast devices has stopped working. This was the only video on TH-cam after watching many that got it back working. WELL DONE!
Mine stopped working too. Tried resetting it unpowered and repowered devices. It's streamed great four years until the other day when I lost Internet service. After that repair and regaining internet no Chromecast device found. Had my Chromecast plugged into port number to of my stereo receiver. From the receiver goes into my Samsung TV there a dmi cable. It worked great for years but now I can't get it to. I tried rebooting everything including Chromecast device. Still no Chromecast device found? Do you know what I can do next? Still on Chromecast device found on my phone. For example on a TH-cam video I have the Chromecast symbol button but when pressed no device found.

In nutshell, this means both casting device and Chromecast itself has to be in same network. However there are many possible setups. For instance my Chromecast 3 gets internet via Ethernet and I cast mostly via 5 GHz Wifi and 2.4 GHz Wifi but as both wifi interfaces and ethernet switch are bridged on router and access point, it runs perfectly :)
could someone explain to me what the purpose of having a chromecast is? Most smart TV's already have build-in apps like: TH-cam, Amazon, Netflix... or an Internet browser. And the youtube app on smartphones has a "stream to TV" option. So I don't really understand the purpose of having this devise.

I believe any device that has the Google Home app, using the same google account that you set up the Chromecast with, SHOULD work. Just log in and follow any set up on the device you want to use as your remote.

Friend also same issue but with her google chat circle thing. Will have to keep trying, maybe 'delete' the app and reinstall it. Ah so it's depended on a wifi router, that's one way to kill my interest in it. Was thinking this would be an excellent gift for some older folks i know (who are not tech savy) to have for their forest summer cottage place, so they could watch movies and other things on the TV via their phones they got but having to explain to them how this works plus having to teach them how to turn their phones into mobile hot spots to trick the chromecast into thinking there's a wifi-router would be a huge pain, especially since they'd most def. forget how to do it. Wouldn't be an issue for me personally but for old people this would be an undertaking and i have no mood to play tech support for them every time they forgot something.

On my my device that I’m using as my “remote” (for example, I downloaded the Google Home app on my iPad), I need to have BOTH the Google Home app and the Hulu app downloaded on try iPad? That just seems like unnecessary waste of storage space. A Roku stick sounds more reasonable than this Chromecast device.
Depends on what you want to do with it. Roku stick is more versatile. Chromecast was created years before the Roku stick, Roku now has more features. Why do you want to set up a Chromecast if you prefer the Roku features?

Had to change wifi networks, maybe a tutorial would be helpful if you haven't already made 1. Along with how to physically factory reset 1, of you haven't made 1 already. As this was the 1st and only tutorial I found and watched. I googled the information to change network and password, and it told me how to forget the network, but then I lost access to the device and had to factory reset it, there were no instructions on how in the box, and it was incomplete from Google search. I tried connecting my Chromecast dongle to our Caravan TV but I get as far as “I’m in” step and then I try connecting to the internet hotspot ting from my mobile and it can’t find my phone despite typing in the network (mobile phone) name, security password, it just can’t find it. Very frustrating, can anyone help me. The dongle was previously used on our previous lounge TV before we bought a smart TV. Thanks in advance. Jules
I bought one of those toggle things for an old TV outside. It didn't work on old TV. Worked on my TV but I didn't need it of that, so I ended up breaking it and disposing it in the trash. Tried something else but the this time the TV and device had to be MHL compatible. I'll try again I said, I know the wireless thing works but I got angry. Now I buy this Chromecast thing it connects to the internet and I follow all the instructions. But nothing works. I guess it's my cheap LG phone and my cheap Naxa tablet. I'm done with this. I'm trying to sell them on CL but nobody seems interested in them. Much easier to connect from lap top to TV. I have had enough with those gadgets. LOL
Try resetting chromecast to factory settings, I've just got mine and it had the same issue as you. There's a button on the side, press and hold it until flashing stops and you have a solid light. Your TV will display that it's resetting (it'll take a while). Then go through all the setup process again. Worked for me!
