  • The Bricasti M3H is a stellar DAC which can be equipped with a headphone amplifier and a network streamer. In this video I will go through my thoughts on the sound, value, versatility & make a comparison between the Chord TT2.
    For me the unit is awesome and was exactly what I was looking for, something that can give me extreme levels of transparency without compromising the enjoyment and engagement.

    I would like to add you will definitely see improvements adding a separate headphone amplifier to the chain as the headphone amp is definitely the weak link in the system.
    Some pairings I liked with my headphones: Woo WA2, Violectric V281, SimAudio Moon 430HA, Headamp GSX mini

      I disagree, the Headphone amp is as resolving as the DAC but like the DAC it's rather transparent and linear tho with some slight added immediacy. While I appreciate GS-X Mini with the M3H there is to my ears a loss of low frequency clarity and definition on the leading edge of sounds in exchange for slightly deeper "exaggerated" stage and a fuller tone... so for a lot of headphones where there's unevenness in the response that unevenness is brought a bit forward. Certainly a double edge'd sword imo
      That said I still enjoy a dedicated SET tube with my M3H alongside it's amp but I still find that GS-X Mini works amazingly well as a single amp for driving all manner of headphones. Getting the full Networked M3H without the amp and going for a GS-X Mini would be a stunning system!
      Still I appreciate the detail and linear studio tuning or presentation on the built in amp.

      @@OakForestAudio The amp definately does sound good but when you look at the build and the real estate utilized for the amp module in comparison to the DAC it gave me the first thought into upgrading. I noticed a far more expansive soundstage and better body when upgrading the amplifier especially when I was spending 2k+
      Ultimately I found I really liked the Pathos Inpol ear as the best amp I have heard with most of my phones. The benchmark is also fantastic for a solid state with tones of juice, or the Moon HA430 (but it can come across a little too gentle)

      @@BelieveHiFi I do agree, the staging on the built in amp isn't as natural as what the DAC itself provides and different topologys/amps do help flesh it out. Tonally tho I don't find any fault with it my self tho for that more natural stage and tone I prefer tube amps. So for me and my needs the solid state does everything I want/expect
      Linear response with a very immediate presentation. I don't quite enjoy solid state amps that mimic the tonality and holographic nature of tubes, tho again for some folks a single amp like GS-X Mini is all you need and you have a beautifully happy median. I still prefer to have the right tool for my wants/needs and imo this is one of the best examples of a clean, straight forward solid state amp that doesn't come off as harsh or thin but still has amazing slam and texture, the amp stage doesn't need much real estate as it's feed directly off the DAC's fully differential output and I believe runs off the pre-amp stages power supply
      Still yea not every one will appreciate it as I do. Great review tho man! An thank you for the response

    I changed from TT2 to M3H a couple months ago. It sounds better than TT2 to me, plus it has network connectivity so I don't have to deal with USB.

    I think component matching is key. I would like to think that investing in a dedicated valve headphone amp would compliment the TT2 down to a T. Quite an expensive task in getting the chain bang on

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is definitely very important to factor. I think the TT2 as said in the video may have a slight edge in the detail and resolution however this just sounds more organic and natural.
      It was also tried with my HiFi system and paired with headphones into a WA2 and PAthos inpol ear amp

    Try a Mola Mola Tambaqui but you will also need a proper active preamp or test the Mola Mola Makua preamp with the dac built in.

    • @BelieveHiFi

      I regrettably am not using this at the moment, a crazy sequence of events lead to me having to liquidate a large portion of my gear in the first few months I moved to Europe..

      I would need to do an A/B as memory can play tricks with comparisons

    As a pure DAC against the TT2 when the M-scaler is added to both?

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TT2 wins in this case.

    How does it compare to terminator?

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer it.
      The termi is brighter sounding in its signature and maybe seems a little more razor focused but I get a more organic sense of timbre and tone with this unit.
      If you want the whip crack of a thunderous drum strike maybe the termi is for you and if you prefer the organic sound of a string instrument maybe the M3 is for you

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ummm to be honest, since bringing the M-Scaler into my life I have actually swung back in the direction of the TT2. This is because the M-Scaler solved anything that I had to complain about and enhanced everything that was already so good about it.

    If their price for fkn remote is 500, how can we be sure that they havent taken price for their dac from the ceiling?!

    $500 for a remote! It doesn't matter how good the machine is if they're gonna be so greedy.
